First example:“Impact of the climate change on environment, econom y and society” – acronym KLIMAT (changes, impacts, ways of limitation, proposals for science, engineering in practice and economy planning)

Source of financing: Operational Programme Innovative Economy 2007-2013 -(IE OP)

Financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The programme supports innovativeness at least at national level. Innovativeness at local or regional levels will be supported and promoted through Regional Operational Programmes.

The main goal of the innovative economy Operational Programme is the development of the Polish economy based on innovative enterprises.

Project was carried out within the framework of Pri ority Axis 1. Research and development of new technologies

Objective of the priority axis : The objective of the priority axis is to increase the role of the science sector in the economy through R&D activity in the directions recognized as priorities for the social and economic development of the country.

Key tasks of the project:1. Climate change and its impact on environment in Poland and estimation of

economical effects.2. State of atmospheric pollution in Poland and its impact on the quality of life –

possible solutions. 3. Sustainable management of water, natural and forest resources.4. Natural disasters, civil protection, internal public safety.5. Development of the new methods of forecasting, warning systems.

6. The Baltic Sea - element of the climatic system and its role in creation of risk conditions.

7. Determinants, risks and possibilities of realization of water supply program in view of climate change.

8. Preventing of degradation of the artificial reservoirs (technical aspects, sediments).

9. The development plan for the Vistula river basin.

The project conducted by IMWM - NRI covers the following combinations ofscenarios: B1, A2, A1B taking from the SRES (Special Report on EmissionsScenarios). The most important challenge in that part of the project wasestimation of possible pressures on water bodies resulting differentdevelopment pathways and to combine them with suitable scenarios of wateravailability. Such estimation was possible only by prediction of key factors ofwater use based on estimation of trends and comparison with other highdeveloped countries. Such predictions are important for water planners andmanagers.

Based on the emission level estimated for a given scenario, climate models can transform meteorological data from reference period taking into account the level of greenhouse gases emission such as we assumed. This makes it possible to compare the statistical characteristics of key meteorological factors (temperature, precipitation, wind) for the periods before and after the change. In the KLIMAT project, the climate model RegCM (ICTP, Trieste, Italy,) working on a grid of a resolution of 20-30 km, was used [4]. As a reference period for investigations, the period of 20 years from 1971 to 1990 was adopted. The calculations were performed for the area covering Poland and the adjacent areas.

Project is carried out within the framework of Priority Axis 7. Informationsociety – electronic administration.

The main goal of the innovative economy Operational Programme is thedevelopment of the Polish economy based on innovative enterprises.

The main goal of the project is to give citizens assurance that they are safe andto limit the losses caused by technological and natural disaster.
