INSTALLATION

Client Information: The information in this installation instruction is intended for use only by skilled technicians who have the proper tools, equipment, and training to correctly and safely add equipment to your vehicle. These procedures should not be attempted by “do-it-yourselfers.”

1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.2. Release and pull up on the rear seat cushion.

NOTE: Place a piece of masking tape as shown to prevent the hook from re-engaging.

3. Remove the left rear door sill trim.

6. Remove the spare tire plug to access the spare tire hoist shaft. Lower the spare tire completely.

7. Remove the four tie-down hooks.

11. Remove the two bolts. Loosen one bolt, and turn the left bracket as shown.

13. Gently pull the inner handle on the left rear side trim panel, and use a small flat-tip screwdriver wrapped with a shop towel to remove the inner handle cap.

14. Remove the two screws from the left rear side trim panel.

15. Pull away the door opening seal and weatherstrip from around the left rear side trim panel. Remove the trim panel.

16. Release the cable from the left rear side trim panel, then remove the inner handle.

17. Pull away the door opening seal and weatherstrip from around the left quarter pillar trim.

18. Using a rubber mallet wrapped with a shop towel, lightly tap the area marked SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG on the left quarter pillar trim to push in the clip. NOTE: Make sure to strike the area perpendicular to the vehicle.


19. Remove the left quarter pillar trim.

20. Refer to the installation instruction of the trailer hitch, and install the trailer hitch.NOTE: If you are also installing the hands-free access power tailgate unit kit, install the hands-free access unit and label B in this step.

21. Install the socket bracket to the trailer hitch with the two 6 x 16 mm flange bolts and the two 6 mm flange nuts.

22. Install the control unit bracket to the control unit.

24. Route the trailer harness down along the vehicle harness, and secure the 8-pin connectors and trailer harness to the vehicle harness with three wire ties.

25. Plug the trailer harness 12-pin connector into the control unit.

26. Install the control unit and trailer harness ground terminal to the vehicle panel with the ground bolt.


27. Remove the vehicle grommet. Route the socket harness through the vehicle panel hole.

28. Install the grommet on the socket harness into the vehicle panel hole. NOTE:• While holding the grommet carefully insert it into

the vehicle panel hole, and make sure it is seated properly.

• Do not pull on the socket or harness when installing the grommet.

29. Plug the socket harness 4-pin connector into the trailer harness 4-pin connector.

30. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly clean the vehicle panel where the aluminum tape will attach.

31. Using scissors, cut two pieces of the aluminum tape in half. Secure the trailer harness and socket harness to the vehicle panel with four of the cut pieces of aluminum tape.


32. Route the socket harness along the trailer hitch as shown.

33. Secure the socket harness to the trailer hitch and vehicle panel with one wire tie and one wire tie with clip.

34. Secure the socket harness to the vehicle harness with two wire ties. Go to step 59.

Trailer harness with Hands-Free Access Power Tailgate Kit35. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly

clean the fuse case where the fuse label will attach. Attach the fuse label (2A OPTION FUSE) to the fuse case on the trailer harness.

36. Plug the trailer harness 8-pin connector into the vehicle 8-pin connector.NOTE: Make sure you plug the trailer harness 8-pin connector into the upper connector as shown.

37. Route the trailer harness down along the vehicle harness, and secure the 8-pin connectors and trailer harness to the vehicle harness with three wire ties.

38. Remove the vehicle grommet. Route the socket harness through the vehicle panel hole.

43. Install the control unit, and socket harness ground terminal to the vehicle panel with one ground bolt.

45. Using scissors, cut two pieces of the aluminum tapes in half. Secure the trailer harness and socket harness to the vehicle panel with four of the cut pieces of aluminum tape.

46. Route the trailer harness up along the vehicle harness, and secure it to the vehicle harness with three wire ties.

47. Using a pushpin, pierce the center of the scribe mark on the left quarter pillar trim. NOTE: Make sure to pierce the mark perpendicular to the left quarter pillar trim.

48. While wearing eye protection, drill the pierced mark on the left quarter pillar trim with a 3 mm drill bit. NOTE: Make sure to drill perpendicular to the left quarter pillar trim.

49. While wearing eye protection, enlarge the 3 mm hole to 26 mm using a 26 mm hole saw. Remove any burrs. NOTE: Make sure to drill perpendicular to the left quarter pillar trim.

50. Install the switch into the 26 mm hole in the left quarter pillar trim. NOTE: Make sure to install the switch in the correct orientation.

51. Line up the tab on the switch bracket with the hole on the switch, and secure the switch bracket to the switch with one narrow wire tie. NOTE: Firmly press the switch bracket against the left quarter pillar trim, and make sure there is no clearance between the switch and left quarter pillar trim.

52. Remove the vehicle clip, and install the clip A to the left quarter pillar trim.

53. With the left quarter pillar trim in position, plug the trailer harness 3-pin connector into the switch.

54. Check the overlap between the headliner and the left quarter pillar trim. NOTE: Check and adjust the overlap as described in the service information.

55. Install the left quarter pillar trim. NOTE: • Make sure the side curtain airbag is not tucked

under the clip. • Do not push too hard on the right quarter pillar

trim.


56. Route the socket harness as shown, and secure it to the vehicle panel with one wire tie with clip.

57. Secure the socket harness to the trailer hitch with one wire tie.

60. Secure the socket harness 4-pin connector to the socket bracket with the two 6 x 40 mm flange bolts and the two 6 mm flange nuts.

62. Remove the fuse box cover.

63. Plug the two 7.5A fuses into the fuse box as shown.

64. Check that all wire harnesses are routed properly and all connectors are plugged in.

65. Connect the negative cable to the battery.66. Press and hold the audio unit power button for 2

seconds to restore the audio and navi (if equipped) system functions.

67. Set the clock on vehicles without navigation.68. If necessary, restore the systems back to normal

operation as described in the service information.69. Spare Tire Installation:

• Before raising the spare tire back into the vehicle, make sure the spare tire hoist bar is centered in the hub opening of the wheel.

• Raise the spare tire. If the hoist bar is correctly positioned, the spare tire will be close to level as it is raised. If the hoist bar is not correctly positioned, the spare tire will not be level as it is raised and will not seat flush under the vehicle.

• Using the appropriate tools in the vehicle, tighten the spare tire hoist until it clicks. Failure to do this can result in noise and/or damage to the hoist cable.

Bracket position is incorrect.


CORRECT:

Bracket position is correct.

The spare tire should remain level when being retracted.

70. Install all removed parts.

71. Using a clean shop towel with soap and water, thoroughly clean where the label A will attach. Then, dry the area with a clean towel.

72. Remove the adhesive backing from the label A. Attach the label A to the tailgate as shown.NOTE: Make sure the client is aware the label A can be removed after reading.

Check the Operation of the Trailer Harness

73. Refer to the TRAILER HARNESS TESTER, and perform the “Trailer Harness Circuit Check”.

Check the Operation of the Hands-Free Access Power Tailgate

74. Make sure the hands-free access power tailgate works properly as described in the Accessory User’s Information Manual supplied with this kit.
