Introduction

The Wizards Storage Portal receives it’s data from Agents in the Wizards Control Center (WCC) .

This guide covers the initial installation of the Wizards Control Center and the plug-in Agent and Probe for

Storwize Systems .

Prerequisites

› Microsoft .NET Framework version 4 .0

› The WCC Storwize and SVC Probe and Agent are interdependent, and will only work properly if both are

of version 6 .0 or higher .

› A Windows 2003 32/64 bit server and above [VMware is supported] . Please note that SVC Master

Console server can NOT be used .

Retrieving the installation packages

The installation packages are found on the Wizards Storage Portal under User Settings > Downloads

Installing the Wizards Control Center

To install the Wizards Control Center, log into the Wizards Storage Portal and go to User Settings > DownloadsIn the download list, locate Wizards Control Center and click the download button .

Once the installation package has been downloaded install by running the setup .exe file

Installing the WCC Storwize and SVC Probe

The WCC Storwize and SVC Probe can either be downloaded from User Settings > Downloads or installed directly

from the Wizards Control Center .

To install the WCC Storwize and SVC Probe from the Wizards Control Center, run WCC and go to ”Downloads &

Updates” in the left menu and enter your WSP login and password .

Click ”Refresh downloads list” and a list of your available downloads will be shown

Next, locate the WCC Storwize and SVC Probe and click download .

Your download progress will be shown .

Once downloaded, you can install the Storwize and SVC Probe directly from the WCC . Click ”Install”

Click the ”Next” button to start the installation of the WCC Storwize System Probe .

When the installation is complete, click ”Finish” .

After installation, the WCC Storwize and SVC Probe will appear in the left menu of the Wizards Control Center .

And you’re done .

Installing the WCC Storwize and SVC Agent

The WCC Storwize and SVC Agent can either be downloaded from User Settings > Downloads or installed directly

from the Wizards Control Center .

To install the WCC Storwize and SVC Agent from the Wizards Control Center, run WCC and go to ”Downloads &

Updates” in the left menu and enter your WSP login and password .

Click ”Refresh downloads list” and a list of your available downloads will be shown

Next, locate the WCC Storwize and SVC Agent and click download .

Your download progress will be shown .

Once downloaded, you can install the WCC Storwize and SVC Agent directly from the WCC . Click ”Install”

Click the ”Next” button to start the installation of the WCC Storwize and SVC Agent

Click ”Install”

When the installation is complete, click ”Finish” .

After installation, the WCC Storwize and SVC Agent will appear in the left menu of the Wizards Control Center .

And you’re done .

Setting up auto-update of Probe & Agent

It is possible to set up the Wizards Control Center to auto-update the WCC Storwize System Probe and Agent in a

few simple steps, so the automatically update whenever a new version is released . This requires that you run it as an

administrative user . Simply enter the domain name, Administrator user name and password .

You can enable the auto-update functionality by checking the checkbox and you can specify exactly when,

during the day you wish to check for new updates .

After entering your administrative credentials, make sure to ”Check settings” .

A pop-up box will appear confirming whether all settings are correct .

The last step is to save your settings once they are confirmed .

How to create SSH key pair for the WCCStorwize and SVC Probe

To start run the program puttygen

Move the cursor using the mouse in the blank area to generate random numbers

When finished, save the public key, name it eg . <your storage system name>_pub

Then save the private key, use same naming eg . <your storage system name> .ppk

Select Yes to save without passphrase

Select Exit , end the program

Now we will upload the public key to the Storwize Family system and add it to the user superuser

Login to your system and select users

Find the user called superuser , right click on it and choose properties

In the section called SSH Public Key, press the browse button

Then select the previous generated file <system name> _pub

Then select ok

Check the SSK Key column, it should show “Yes”

Next step is to configure the PROBE using the <system name> .ppk file

Configuring the Storwize Probe

NOTE: In the latest versions of Storwize and SVC it is required to use a ”superuser” account in order to perform

the ”svcconfig backup” command . Using any other accounts raises an error ”CMMVC6202E This command can

only be run by the superuser .” . To avoid issues with getting system configuration, please, make sure that ”supe-

ruser” account is used by the Probe .

Click the ”Add new . . .” button in the ”Storwize Systems” section .

Fill the ”Storwize System” dialogue with info relating to your Cluster and click ’OK’ .

Next, click the ”Add new . . .” button in the Data Folder section .

The group selection should always be ”Remote”, unless otherwise instructed by Debriefing Software support .

Select either a local folder, or enter a valid UNC path . Please note that if a UNC path is entered, it is required

to enter a valid user account and password . Click ’OK’ .

After entering the directory for the Probe, click the ”Validate Settings” button to test the connection to the

entered Cluster .

Repeat the steps above for each available Cluster .

Next we want to start the statistics collection on each Cluster . Mark each configured cluster, one at the time,

and click the ”Start Performance Statistics . . .” button .

The final step is to save the settings/changes and start the Storwize System Probe .

This completes the configuration of the Storwize System Probe .

NOTE:

Before configuring the Storwize System Agent, please make sure that there are files in the following directo-

ries:

D:\Keys\DEVSVC01\AuditLog\Inbox

D:\Keys\DEVSVC01\ClusterState\Inbox

D:\Keys\DEVSVC01\ConfigBackup\Inbox

D:\Keys\DEVSVC01\ErrorLog\Inbox

D:\Keys\DEVSVC01\PerformanceStats\Inbox

Note that the directory ”D:\Keys\DEVSVC01” is specified by you in the Probe Configuration .

Configuring the Storwize Agent

To configure the Storwize Agent click ”Add new” button in the ”Storwize System” section .

Now it is time to add licenses for each Cluster .

Enter the license key that you have recieved . Browse for the directory previously selected for the Storwize

Probe, and if it is located on a UNC path, enter a valid user account / password .

The ”Storwize Data Folder” settings must be the same as the ones specified in the Probe configuration .

Optionally, you may specify the Windows account to get access to the root directory . This account must have

read, write and modify permissions to the directory .

Finally test the entered license key by clicking ”Validate license . . .” button .

A response similar to the one shown in the dialogue below should appear .

Please note that the license check is depending on files collected by the Storwize Probe, so if it fails: Check

that the Storwize Probe is running and try again .

Repeat the steps above for each Cluster defined (if you have more than 1 cluster you need a separate license

key for each) .

Remember to save the settings by clicking the ”Save” icon . . .

. . . and start the agent by clicking the ”Start” icon .

The agent will now start sending the files collected by the Probe to Debriefing Software cloud web-services .
