The art of mediumship is used in a variety of

different ways to uncover hidden secrets. From

researching the paranormal and Spirits of days gone by to

the work of a psychic detective who endeavours to uncover

more information to assist in unresolved murder and

missing person cases. This area of mediumship is surging

in popularity due to such TV shows as Sensing Murder,

Psychic Detectives and Medium. Whether or not this work

truly does assist the police is as yet another hidden secret,

however the benefits for the families and others involved

must surely be immeasurable. Providing of course the

work is approached with the right understanding and

acceptance, that all outcomes are in the hands of Spirit.

For the medium however, this work can often be

filled with frustration and more ridicule as society expects

final resolution, often failing to see beyond this the

difference this work does make. To bring about a

resolution or arrest is not the responsibility of the medium

as many would think, but rather to bring about more

healing and understanding to a very difficult and painful

set of circumstances.

Kelvin shares with us more insight into this area of

mediumship, as he speaks with inSpirit’s Kerrie Wearing.

Currently living in Auckland New Zealand, Kelvin

grew up in Waikatu seeing Spirit as a child. Knowing that

this wasn’t quite normal, it wasn’t until later in life that

Kelvin decided to pay more attention to these experiences.

KC:It was just deciding to be honest with myself. I had

tried to hide it. I would sense things about people and

confuse that as being about me and it was my fault. So I

really decided to start being honest about what I would see

and sense.

about 5 years ago it became full time. I started as a

am loved by them and I really appreciate that.

friends. Be honest and face up to your feelings. When

faced with a crime scene you literally are reliving the

experience so you need to be able to move through that.

So lots of prayer and meditation, counselling if need be.

KC: Be true to yourself. If you are getting something stand

your ground and be confident. If it’s blue, then it’s

blue – not, “I’m not sure”. Know that it’s not your fault and

you are not responsible, otherwise you’ll find yourself flat

and often down. This is vitally important. Always with love

and discipline. Keep working with your prayers and affir-

mations so you can stay focussed.

A Gift from Spirit

There is no way forward without release; Releasing that which holds you back; Letting go of fears for the past and for the future. All things change and change continuously. The pattern does not remain the same.

You must allow yourself freedom to move with the pattern's flow

Even stone and rock may be moved by a powerful surge. Even that which seems to hold fast may be washed away by the powerful floods of time.

Celebrate what is to be celebrated, not darkening what joy there is with sorrow.

Call up and upon the Spirit that resides within you. To embrace all that can be made special. Cease inviting fear and foreboding to your table. It has been too long an unwelcome guest. Once arrived, it disrupts and knows not when to leave. Show it the door. It has no welcome here.

Be open-hearted, looking only to the good to come, Trusting in the power of light and life for change. All can surprise. Be calm. Follow the love. Take each moment as it comes and savour the taste. It is yours.

Have you got a question you need to answer? Are

you feeling stressed about school or home?

Meditation can be a great way for you to get some quiet

time. You may also like to ask some questions about

anything at all, or you may just want to take time to think

about what you are doing at school, at play or maybe even

how to make something. Meditation allows time to think.

It allows you be alone with your thoughts

So let’s take a ride together to find the answer and

take the time to relax. Below is a meditation that you can

ask mum or dad to read to you while you relax and enjoy

the ride.

To begin, find a nice a place to sit down with your back

straight and your legs crossed.

Close your eyes and take a nice big deep breath in and let

it out. This time, breathe in, hold for the count of 2, then let

the breath out. Try to breathe in through the nose and out

through the mouth.

Keep breathing in and our like this 4 more times.

Now see yourself standing at the train station. There is a

train at the platform. It is in your favorite colour. The

engine has writing on it; it’s your name this is your train.

You stand on the platform and look at your train. It can be

any type of train you want - a freight train, a steam strain, a

passenger train, any train that you like.

You walk up to the train and climb up the stairs leading to

the driver’s seat; this is your train to drive. You push the

gears forward and your train slowly moves out from the

station.

You travel along the train line. Up ahead there is a hill and

your train slowly makes its way up the side of the hill, all

the time saying, “I know I can! I know I can! I know I can!”

You reach the top of the hill and start to come down the

other side with the wind blowing in your hair. You feel very

free.

At the bottom of the hill is beautiful country side and

another train station. You stop at the station and climb

down onto the platform. Waiting there for you is a friend.

Your friend is there for you to ask any question you want

to, or they can just be there to play with you, it’s all up to

you.

Spend some time now with your friend. When it is time to

go back to your train, the whistle will blow.

(Mum or dad allow your child to have 2- 5 min here

depending upon their age)

Toot toot, your train whistle is blowing. It’s time to say

goodbye to your friend and climb back aboard the train for

your journey home.

As you leave the station you wave goodbye but know that

you can visit your friend anytime you like. Your train moves

back through the country side and back to the hill. It

climbs the hill with ease and races back down to your train

station.

When you get back to the station you turn off your train

and climb back down on to the platform. Now that you are

back wiggle your toes and fingers and slowly open your

eyes. Stand up and have a big stretch.

If you want to, now is a great time to write down what you

saw, heard or did in your meditation. Write this down in a

book just for you. You can read back on it later.

This meditation is available as a free download from our

website www.inspiritmagazine.com

and healing, all we need to do is

reconnect to the source.

Ego can be identified in

ourselves if we just take the time to

look. It is not hard to find since that is

the part of us that keeps us where we

are now and prevents growth. It can

manifest itself in many different

forms. It can be feeling inferior, fear,

hatred, competition, stubbornness,

arrogance, resentment, superiority,

greed, lies and self pity just to name a

few. How many of these can you

identify with and how many more can

you name? How many times has fear

stopped you from asking for

something, only for you to later regret

it? How has greed affected your life?

Yes, we all have Ego at some stage in

our lives and some of us live with it on

a daily basis. Spirit has let me know

that there is no evil in the world just

pure love and Ego; it is up to us which

one we choose to live with.

How many times has the little

voice in your head told you to do

something that has been Ego based

and not for your higher good? Can

disconnects us from the source of

pure love and light, it takes us away

from our higher purpose, and allows

us to transcend into a world where

fear, aggression disappointment and

competition exist. Ego serves only

itself and is of no use to us. If this is

true then why do we still have Ego?

How does Ego still affect us? How can

we identify it and can we truly remove

Ego from our lives to live in our higher

places of spiritual calling?

Spirit knows that we hold on

to our Ego when we lack

understanding or have fear of how we

fit into this world; when we are not

comfortable with who we are or what

our purpose is, why we are here. Spirit

has also told me that when we

disconnect from the source we

become worried about how to survive.

There is no need for this as the

universe provides for us. Ego loves it

when we allow worry or self-doubt to

creep in. It’s Ego’s way of taking

control. Again there is no need for this

to happen as we are always provided

for. There is universal abundance not

just in money, but love, support, faith

So here I am and I am great.

I have all the answer, but please don’t

question me as I may crack and you

may spring up my super defensive

side. Hmm, sound like anyone you

know? Sounds to me like someone’s

engulfed in Ego !

So why write about Ego?

Recently my son was in hospital

having an operation. I stayed at the

hospital with him over night and at

2.45am I was awoken to a very clear

voice saying to me, “the essence of

working without ego”. I must add that

I went into that hospital that night

with a knowing, that there was some

information I would be receiving I

thought I would receive more than a

one-liner and I did. As I lay awake

during those early hours, more

information about my life and insight

as to when ego had affected it came

to light. This was Spirit’s way of

showing me how much easier my life

has become now that ego is in check.

The loving guidance they were sharing

with me I now share with you .

So what is Ego? Spirit tells

me that Ego is the part of us that

T H E E S S E N C E O F W OR K I N G W I T HOU T E G O

Page 11: inSpirit Magazine Winter 2008

you identify this? Here is a simple tool

to help you keep check of your Ego.

Sit down in a chair, and relax

place both feet on the ground and

take in a few deep, cleansing breaths.

As you exhale each breath allow any

negative energy to be removed. Place

your hand on your stomach area and

say a statement that you know to be

true, for example, “My name is …“.

How do you feel in this area? Now tell

yourself a statement that you know is

not true for example, “The sky is

orange”. How does that feel? Many of

you may know this technique from

learning intuition and will be ok to

work with it right away, some of you

may need to practice it to distinguish

the difference in feeling that may or

may not be strong for you.

Now that you know how you

feel ask yourself a question regarding

something that you have done that

may have been go-based. For

example, is my relationship with this

person serving me only? How do you

feel? Serving only yourself will be an

Page 11

things in your life that have been

ego-based, that’s OK. Now that you

can see what it was, you are on your

way of being able to keep Ego in

check.

OK, so we know why Ego lives

with us, how it affects us by the way it

manifests, and how to keep check on

it. How can we move forward now and

work without it so that we are working

towards our higher good?

The first thing that we need to

do is to be OK with Ego; it will pop up

from time to time so please don’t

punish yourself for this. Know that you

are now able to keep check of it for

yourself. Truly allow reconnection to

the Source by forgiving yourself and

others around you for any wrong

doings. Allow the baggage that Ego

likes you to hold onto to be released.

When this is done you can come from

a place of good, you will know when

this happens, as your life will change

and shift, bringing into it humility, joy,

truth, compassion, empathy and

generosity, love for yourself and

others. Life will be calm.

ego-trait.

Sometimes our Ego is so in

control of our lives that we cannot see

it. Could this be happening to you? If

you’re not sure then have a look

around what you have accumulated in

your life. Has it served a purpose in

working towards your higher good? Or

is you life full of material possessions

a feeling of being better than others,

or perhaps, you have too much fear

and resentment that prevents you

from moving forward to things that

you would really like. Going through

the above mention technique, centre

yourself again and do a check of the

things you have accumulated in your

life. Walk around your house and look

at possessions your have collected

and ask: why do I have this? What has

it brought me? Why did I acquire it?

You will find that the answer will come

to you and you will know if they are

true or Ego-based from how you feel

in your stomach area. Ask about your

relationships. Why do you have them?

Are you always taking or there is a

balance between give and take? Are

you dependant on the other person?

Don’t worry if you find some

knew that there was something more. I

didn’t find anything that would fit until

7 – 8 years ago, so the time must have

been right - synchronicity happened ….

So I met some one, and they said,

“Hey, come along to this circle.” It was

an amazing circle, the women had

been a group for over 20 years and

some took their daughters who were

only a bit younger than me. They were

lead by an healer and it was amazing;

however, I had missed the beginning,

took myself off to a beginners circle to

asked her where she worked and she

worked at the centre that I was going

natural healing. Again it all fell into

place as that’s what we wanted to do.

Have you ever thought about

the little voice we all have whispering to

us, comforting us, protecting us and

offering direction? Intuition perhaps

our imagination even. The truth of the

matter is, that many of the times we

hear the little voice of reason and

direction, it originates from the spirit

realm. Thoughts focus and direction are

offered to us on an almost continual

basis. All of us are constantly offered

thoughts that will motivate and focus

our attention to different directions in

our life. The issue with most of us is

that we seem to get inspiration and

focus only in spits and spats. Rarely do

we develop a true understanding of the

significance of these inspirations and

guidance. We just know that we get

these inspirations and thoughts

occasionally and go along, never giving

much more thought to it. What if we

could really bring these feelings, these

flutterings of inspirations into our lives

on a full time, regular basis? Maintain a

long term focused connection to your

own personal team of spiritually

advanced entities, whose only love in

life is to help and guide you through

your life here. Well I’m here to tell you

that this is entirely possible.

Of course, I’m talking about

our spirit guides, guardian angels or

whatever you wish to call them. There

are many reasons why spirit guides

want to connect with us and in many

ways I feel it is difficult to ignore their

attention. Working with us here in the

physical is one of our guides’ greatest

pleasures. They understand how

difficult life here can be and their help

can ease the path for us. They won't

live our lives for us, but they will guide

and support us to achieve our desired

experiences here. Our guides will use

many different ways to communicate

with us, or to get our attention. This can

be hard work for our guides and

helpers in spirit sometimes, as the

bulk of guide communication we use

here in the physical is subtle and

non-descript.

In most cases it is not a loud booming

voice speaking to us from beyond!

Listening and understanding is the

hard part of guide communication.

When I started taking interest in guide

communication I was looking in the

wrong direction. I used to think, ‘OK,

I've read the books, I'm here with my

eyes closed, in the quiet ... now speak

to me’. Needless to say, I was left

waiting ... and waiting ... and waiting ...

finally nothing. The disappointment was

almost more than I could stand. See, I

had read all the books written by those

who professed to have had amazing

experiences with their own guides and

thought, ‘OK, why not me ?’ Don’t fall

into the same trap and have bigger

expectations that are reasonable.

I really thought reading a few

books and closing my eyes would do

the trick (I can almost hear my guides

laughing as I write this today, ‘That

would have been just too easy’)!

Because, in those days I would have

thought woo hoo! I have a direct line

now! Now, what are the lotto

numbers? Will I get the girl I'm after?

Etc, etc. It's never that easy!

It is very important in the

overall scheme, when looking to open

up a meaningful and long term

communication with our guides or

loved ones, to know that they are not

able or allowed to offer more than

guidance. Doing more than that may

inhibit our growth and compromise the

contract that we have agreed to

before coming back to the physical.

We will all fall into that trap of

expecting more than they are able to

offer.

I recently had the opportunity

to do a question and answer session

on a radio show. One gentleman

asked me ‘what to look for’ from his

guides, at an upcoming job interview.

The answer was simple, ‘Look for

confidence, look for positive energy

sent your way, feel them encouraging

and supporting you.’

So, if we now discount the

booming voice from beyond, then how

SPIRIT GUIDES: THE INTIMATE CONNECTIONS

Page 15: inSpirit Magazine Winter 2008

do they communicate with us? The

answer will be different for everyone.

Much depends on our openness to

the process and the faith one has in

the fact that the help is there in the

form of our guides and loved ones.

Understanding that we have these

energies available in spirit, is the first

step in meaningful communication.

Faith, in my opinion, is an overused

word, however, it really encompasses

what it is that you will need initially.

Communication is going to seem

strange at first, especially, if as

usuall y the case, meaningfu l

communication does not happen

immediately. Guide communication

has a process behind it. It is in

understanding the process involved

and also the fact that the process is

different for many of us, that is

paramount.

Having established that we

need to understand our own process

or modality of guide communication,

how do they best communicate with

us and what form does that take?

We can break most people into 2

groups; I like to use the native

American terms: dreamers and

seeers. I apologize in advance to

anyone who may feel I'm using these

references out of the traditional

context, however, they are excellent

when trying to establish modality.

The seeer is one who is more

comfortable and open to signs and

indications of guide communication

through their waking hours. This may

take the form of showing them

Page 15

answers to questions asked, or

perhaps by leading them toward a

book that contains their information,

or sending people in their direction

that can help them. These may appear

to our thinking minds as coincidences

- they aren’t! There is to my mind no

such thing as coincidence. Smells,

scents, and synchronicity can also be

commonly associated with a seer.

Seeers are also individuals who

generally, in my experience, have an

e a s i e r t i m e r e c o g n i z i n g

communication for what it is, and

once they understand it, accepting it is

a little easier than dreamers. I tend to

obtain much direction from my spirit

guides in this way. I have learned to

trust in the responses I receive to

questions and learning experiences

sent to me. I know there have been a

few occasions where my faith, so to

speak, in my guides has been tested,

and sometimes I have resorted to my

five senses, and started to rationalize.

I almost always come unstuck and

swore not to doubt again - but still do

from time to time.

This for a seeer is difficult to

overcome, as our world gets hi-tech

and what seems impossible today

becomes reality tomorrow; we live

more and more in our five senses and

it gets harder and harder to be

impressed, so to speak Guide

communication although, may appear

from the perspective of the seeer to

come from and to our five physical

senses, we must remember that it

originates outside of the five senses

and to really benefit from their

communications we must try to

interpret them using all of our spiritual

and physical senses combined. You

will know when you are working with

all of theses senses as a seeer,

because it becomes more about the

‘feeling’, the ‘knowing’ that your

guides are using their influence on,

and less about the physica l

manifestation of this influence.

Now, on to dreamers.

Dreamers are just that – dreamers.

Much of their communication comes

from very clear and vivid dreams that

they seem to remember when they

awake. Messages from loved ones

and guides can be relayed in this

dream mode because our minds shut

down and allow this to happen.

Dreamers are not usually as easy to

impress with communications and

may be people with busy lifestyles

who would have trouble focusing on

messages and signs whilst awake. I

include in this group people who

achieve communica tion during

meditation – the meditative state is

getting close to the state we find

ourselves in during sleep. I have also

found that the information is more

direct, and in some ways clearer in

dreams. I have heard of people

achieving incredible information in

d r e a m s o r m e d i t a t i o n s .

When we sleep, it is said that we

move close to the spirit realm’s

vibrations and this makes contact

with guides and loved ones a little

more intimate, and in many ways

more direct. Through dream work and

SPIRIT GUIDES CONT’D

Page 16: inSpirit Magazine Winter 2008

practice, dreamers are indeed able to

e f f e c t s o m e r e m a r k a b l e

communications. It is important to

sort the wheat from the chaff when it

comes to dreams, however, with

practice and patience a person can

develop strong techniques and

effective communication. There are

many fine books and other materials

on dream working. It need not be a

complicated process however, and it

may be as simple as asking and as

simple as receiving. Of course, some

find messages are received in both

ways, although I believe one method

will dominate over the other, if not for

c l a r i t y , w i t h r e g u l a r i t y .

Identi fying which group you

predominantly fit into and by focusing

on this modality will give you the

opportunity to develop and enhance

guide communication. Keeping a

guide diary is a great way of achieving

this. Ask questions of your guides.

Start with simple things, then over a

twelve week period log the responses

you receive and the communication

you have had and how they are

achieved. At the end of this period you

will see a pattern developing, and ulti-

mately you will be in a position to de-

termine your modality, and work on

enhancing and developing it to a new

level of clarity. Do not automatically

think that you are one or the other

however; you may be very surprised

once you start a diary just how you

r e c e i v e c om m u n i c a t i o n s !

Remember that this is a process, just

Page 16

like painting a wall: the more attention

you pay in preparation for the paint to

go on the wall, the better the results.

Finally, patience and time will be

required and a strong belief in the

presence of our helpers and guides is

very important. Don’t dwell too much

on what or who your guides are or

their names. These things will come in

t i m e .

Stand back and look at this as a long

term project; put in the time and

preparation. Nothing worthwhile will

be gained without patience and an

effort on your part. Your guides and

loved ones in spirit will be there

always. This goes without saying and

perhaps for some that is enough.

If you are looking to enhance your

relationship and communication with

them understand how and why they

are around first and the rest will fall

into place for you. I wish all the

greatest success with your own spirit

guide communications.

FAQs :

Q. Can family who have crossed over

be our spirit guides?

A: Family we have known here are

rarely guides as such. The guides who

establish guidance with and for us

have been arranged long before we

take our first breath here in the

physical. However, family may take up

the role of what I term spirit helpers

who assist our guides in their work

with you.

Q. How many guides do we have?

A. In short as many as we need. We

may have two or three but may have

as many as six or seven. It very much

depends on the teaching and learning

experiences we go through.

Q. Do we always maintain the same

guides?

A. We generally have several guides

that stay with us all of our lives here.

However, guides do come and go at

different times of need; as we require

certain assistance other guides may

come to us but for varying periods of

time.

Q. Are guides always connected to

native Americans or historical figures?

A. No. It is one of the big misnomers

when it comes to spirit guides. If you

do not experience a native American

this doesn’t mean that you are

imagining it or that you do not have a

guide at all. A guide’s appearance

largely depends on how you will best

accept them.

Q. Are guides the same as your

guardian angel?

A. It is my belief that guides are

indeed what we traditionally know as

guardian angels. I also believe

however, that angels as entities are

separate and different spiritual

vibrations. Much of the great work our

own guides do is mistakenly attributed

to the angelic realm.

This was a time in my life when

ego-based fear was in control, yet that

fear showed itsself as superiority. My

life was about being better than others

so they may never find out that I was

no good at all. My actions came from

Ego: everything I accumulated was

due to needing to be better to have it

all. My relationships with many people

were about what they could do for me.

Self-sabotage took place so many

times that the baggage of it was

Life was then a very uncomfortable place

Sitting in one of my classes last year listening to the speaker talking about the history of Spiritualism in general, I realised, there is very little information available on this movement that is relevant to

Australia.

While we are bombarded with all sorts of media from all over the world, I find that they have very little relevance to the lives of Australians in general. Just look at movies, tv shows that are the carbon copies of British or American based concepts, pushed by

the media on all levels of society.

If I asked people today what they know about the dawn of Spiritualism in this country, would they be able to tell me anything else, other than it came from Europe-mainly England-in the 19th century. While this is true, to better understand who we are today, I feel we need to acknowledge those who came before us and ploughed the way towards where Spiritualism is

in Australia today.

It could not have been easy, given the fact that organised religions brought from the continent were still very popular and ingrained in society. Although Spiritualism was ever present throughout history, it was subdued due to the church’s iron hand, especially during the dark ages. Although that grip has since loosened, centuries of social conditioning means that spiritualist practices are

still frowned upon by a lot of people.

With the formation of the federation growing closer, Australia was taking in more migrants than ever, meaning that the cultural make up of the country was changing at a rapid rate. The gold rush was drawing masses in not just in America but in Australia as well. People were coming here with new dreams, to start new lives and a beginning of a new age was imminent. With remote communities hardly accessible, the church’s grip had broken and people were left to

B Y A N D R E A K A L D Y

their own devices to find spiritual comfort. With mainstream religions no longer able to satisfy the spiritual needs of the people, they were beginning to look for alternatives. This provided an opportunity for an amalgamation of different cultures

and faiths.

The spiritual movement now in full swing in the States and in the UK, the wave finally reached this country and took a hold. Surprisingly enough we can list some very public figures of the time as its supporters, including members of parliament. By the late eighteen hundreds several societies were formed in different states with swelling memberships and a diverse interest. Some were investigating spiritual phenomena, others were educating the public about it and some were a platform for practising mediums. Public support for the movement and the awareness of its purpose was growing. With members of high society heavily involved, it was

gaining credibility as well. It is somewhat unfortunate that it seems as if today we have taken several

steps back in this aspect.

There are very few public figures that will put their support behind a spiritual cause due to fear of ridicule by their professional peers and the public alike. That is only one of the reasons though. With political correctness being taken to a new height every day, for someone being in the public eye it is very dangerous to voice an opinion on such a controversial subject and only few are brave enough to do so. Who can blame them? The public is quick to crucify anyone that steps out of line and dares to take a road less

travelled.

about the history of Spiritualism in

Australia in upcoming issues of this

magazine.

What aspects of paranormal What aspects of paranormal What aspects of paranormal What aspects of paranormal

First of all, we must understand the meaning of paranormal. Anything that falls under the category of “paranormal” means that science cannot give a measurable understanding of a certain event. Because the list of such phenomena is extensive, I’ll only give a few examples. UFOs, ESP, alleged ET contact, poltergeist activity, cryptozoology, levels of hauntings,

possessions EVP, just to name a few.

The most popular equipment is the video camera. These cameras are at times modified to improve visibility on some levels of the visual spectrum. Also an integrated circuit recorder (IC recorder) is frequently used together with passive infrared sensors and anything that can

measure temperature variations.

We aim to collect physical evidence that we consider to be irrefutable, such as video footage of phenomena, where all other natural explanations can be discounted. Also to be able to categorise detailed descriptions of the astral sphere and to pinpoint an appropriate audible frequency range where direct communication with the

Anybody who wants to invest time into research should become familiar with the basic methodologies used by orthodox investigators. By that I mean reading reports, books, internet articles written by respected researchers who have spent significant amount of time in the field. Some of the more reputable organisations such as the Society of Psychical Research (primary members include para-psychologists) can provide you with a lot of basic information to get you started. Obviously there has to be a level of motivation and interest, commitment and the ability to be critical with one’s work. If we are investigating a reported case, we assess the data that is given to us to establish the category of possible haunting. The reportee is then interviewed. The team is assembled and visit the sight prior to any investigation. The witness is then interviewed again in person, so we can examine body language and to establish credibility of witness. The surrounding area is then examined externally and internally, including a base-line reading of all areas affected. Once the base-line and all other surveys are complete and if we feel that the situation warrants further investigation then we assemble our equipment and begin monitoring. The operation of all equipment is thoroughly checked before each investigation to ensure

One of the most important parts of the investigation is to be able to rule out or identify any form of natural influence. Base-line testing is usually done at lease 3-4 times before an investigation. The reason for that is to confirm whether or not specific areas are electronically quiet or loud during specific times of the day. That is then compared to the times of any events that are reported by the witnesses or any occurrences during an investigation. Base-lining is not exclusive to electromagneti interference, it can also

be thermal variations or infrasound.

A good starting point is to obtain some basic equipment such as an IC recorder or a dictaphone and a digital still camera or even a cheap laser thermometer. Some of these items can even be purchased from Ebay. A good beginning would be to sit in your lounge room alone in total darkness and attempt to records Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP). Don’t be disappointed if you record nothing for the first few attempts. Generally with EVP patience is a virtue. If you feel that you are ready to spend some money on a ticket for a ghost tour, take your equipment with you and rotate them as much as you can. When you come home and analyse your data be sure to a critical approach and don’t be quick to jump into conclusions. If in doubt, have the data assessed by an

experienced paranormal investigator.

Why is it important to document your Why is it important to document your Why is it important to document your Why is it important to document your

findings?findings?findings?findings?

You want to able to go back to your previous findings and filing and categorising the information collected will give you more knowledge and understanding of what you are dealing with from hind sight. You can also compare your information with other researchers and the more information you collect of a single case, the more you will

be prepared for your next investigations.

During the time that I was doing these investigations, I had

enrolled at the Australian College of Mediumship to help develop my

mediumistic gift and a higher level of understanding of what it was I

was dealing with at the courthouse and other investigations. I will be

forever grateful to my teacher and the College for offering such a

spiritual place of learning without prejudice and judgment to those

who attend for whatever reason. This had not been my experience

in closed development circles with other established mediums.

Thanks to the College, I hold no grudge for their misguidance. I

believe Spirit has a lesson in store for them one day that will enable

them to obtain a higher level of understanding of what it was I was

doing. Rather than create fear inside the student that may reach out

for their guidance, as was done with me, they hopefully will be able to

offer freedom from fear and judgment as I now have been by Kerrie.

I struggled terribly when I first introduced Lynch to the College.

Because of past teachings with other mediums I was worried that his

negativity would spread throughout the College and onto all those

going there.

I never intentionally meant to bring Lynch to the College, it just

happened. I had been talking to the tour guide one day on the phone

and whilst talking to her I knew Lynch was around. I felt quite

nauseous: the tell-tale sign. After speaking with the guide for some

time I hung up and felt no better, I actually felt worse. I was

meeting other students from the College for lunch that day but how I

made it there I still don’t know. My balance was all off, I nearly fell

into my seat at the café and whilst seated I felt like I was on a boat in

rough seas.

I got home that day feeling terribly ill, so I put myself to bed for a

couple of hours before I was to attend my class that night at the

College. When I woke up I felt no better but I knew I had to go to

class no matter what. Later that night in class I explained to Kerrie

what had happened to me that day. One of the students in my class

performed some Reiki on me and I left for home that night feeling

much better.

A few days later Kerrie informed me that John had made his first

appearance at the College. John Lynch would often visit the College,

weather it be through trance, or students just sensing him close by.

Many, including myself, still felt the nauseous feeling whenever he

was around, Some to the point that they would actually be running to

the bathroom.

I came to the understanding through my teacher that John was there

for all of our learning. Some students had fear issues they needed to

work through, some needed to realize they had issues with judging

people and spirits I believe I had to deal with both. I had a fear

instilled in me not only by previous mediums, but as a child, that the

only spirits that were around were evil, an issue I believed I had

worked considerably on whilst doing the paranormal investigations,

an issue I guess I believed I had overcome. I obviously hadn’t, as I

would soon come to comprehend.

I didn’t realize at the time, thankfully I do now, but I also had issues

with passing judgment on those I couldn’t possibly relate to. I could

feel compassion for the spirit or a human, I could send love, healing,

empathy and the like, but what I didn’t understand was that I was

still judging them for actions or events that had hurt others.

When John first came to the College he wasn’t very fond of me, I

would send him love that he could not understand. I felt for this

spirit that had committed such heinous crimes, that had heard voices,

that had been ridiculed by his family and the like and probably so

much more. I felt for this spirit that found himself unable or

unwilling to move on, to evolve, to be free and I wanted to help, yet I

was still wary of him, given what he had done whilst in the physical

world and what I had experienced in the early communications with

him. I was witness to his anger and hate, I heard his EVPs and the

absolute loathing he felt for all those that would visit the court house

and much more.

Even though I had watched and felt the change in John’s presence

when trancing through others at the College, each time he became

more receptive to the love and help that my teacher and her guides

were offering. He was calmer and voiced through trance that he no

longer heard voices, he joked instead of cursing, his energy was

changing, yet I still guarded myself against what he had done in the

past. As a result of this I would still feel ill when John was nearby. I

never understood why and though my teacher knew, it was my

lesson that I needed to learn for myself and thankfully after being

guided by Kerrie and John, I did.

Here I was, a student at the Australian College of Mediumship,

going to classes believing I no longer judged others, believing I was

coming from a place inside me that was of the highest of intention,

yet I was still sick every time John would make an appearance. It

wasn’t just the physical effect either. My mediumship development

was hindered, my ability to learn healing was halted, my growth

slowed to a snail’s pace because I was still passing judgment on John

and I still, to a degree, feared his presence and what he might do and

I’m sure John wasn’t the only soul that I had passed judgment on.

It wasn’t until one night in trance class that I came to this realization.

Through Kerrie’s teachings I was able to communicate and understand

when John came to me feeling very sad. It was so strange to have this

feeling of sadness and disappointment going on inside me knowing

they weren’t mine, they were that of John’s. That night John

communicated to me that he felt betrayed almost, that he had been

coming to this place of love and light, learning to grow and evolve yet

he still felt a lot of the students’ judgment and fear toward him. He

made me realize that many of us were being hypocritical as we could

believe that we could become better people for learning such positive

beliefs and gifts from spirit but that he couldn’t possibly do the same

for he was a murderer. Whether we felt he wasn’t worthy or that it

wasn’t possible it didn’t matter. He just felt saddened and hurt that we

still, after all this time, after much work with our teacher and her

guides, after all Kerrie’s teachings, simply could not forgive, or get

passed what he had done.

To know I was one of those people he was talking about made me feel

such shame, a shame I am glad to have recognized and now rectified. It

upset me to know how sad I had made this spirit that had been working

so hard at being forgiven for past mistakes and forgiving himself. He

had worked with our teacher, her guides and with us students, all to

help our growth as mediums, healers and the like. I was still judging

him and I felt awful.

I hope in reading this article, those who are experiencing something

similar or those who do so in the future may remember the lesson that I

have learned. I have a renewed and strengthened faith in where I am

attending my development classes, my teacher, my teacher’s guides,

my own ability and that of my own guides’. I now know if I were not

able to cope with circumstances or situations they would not be put in

front of me. Spirit only gives us what we can handle and that which

helps us to grow and become the best that we can possibly be.

In love, light and the highest and best intentions

Kylie Baxter, Psychic Medium

When John first appeared at the College, as the teacher, I felt a

range of emotions. Excitement, because I thought it was a

brilliant way for my guides to teach others about fear,

judgement and the fact that the spirit world is really no differ-

ent to ours. I was concerned about people judging us for

allowing this so-called “low-level entity” into our midst. How

was this for our highest and best would be the question. And

yes, I was concerned in how John would behave. How

unpredictable would he be? So, I was cautious until we got to

know him a little better. My job was to trust in what my team

of Spirit Guides were unfolding, knowing they would have the

best intentions for our spiritual development.

The time John has spent with us has been filled with learning

for all of us, as well as fun. With many moments of laughter,

hearing from a spirit with attitude is not what is usually

expected. He is quite adept at trancing, so the transfiguration

energies for students to experience is quite amazing. There

have also been those moments of sadness when real healing

has taken place for John, times when he has felt comfortable

enough to share his pain and life which was filled with a lack

of love, only to have him experience love when we’ve helped

him reconnect with his grandmother in Spirit.

As Kylie and I write this article, John is preparing to move on

to wherever and whatever is the next stage of his journey. We

thank him for being part of our learning and feel honoured to

have helped him to open up to a little more love. Jokingly he

says “Not too much now …” We wish you well, John.

As we prepare for our next visitor we can only hope the

relationship between us provides as much learning and

healing.

Energy Basics W h e n s t a r t i n g t o

understanding the workings of your psychic abilities, it is important to first start with understanding Universal

Energy.

It is through this energy that all psychic communication transpires and emits from one soul to another,

being in this world or beyond.

Let’s cast our mind back to our high school science lessons and what we were taught about energy. We were taught that every object is made up of atoms and molecules (groups of atoms linked together). It is the structure and density of these molecules which determine whether that object is gas, liquid or solid. This includes the chair I’m sitting on while writing this for you, the coffee I’m also drinking too; in fact, each and every one of us, including our souls and our bodies. We were also taught that energy doesn’t die, it just changes form. Hence, water (liquid) becomes ice when its environment is changed to freezing temperatures (solid) or it evaporates through the air in water vapour (gas) before building in clouds

to become water again, as rain.

As I like to keep things plain and simple, this is about as scientific as I will get. For those interested in more detail of a scientific nature balanced with the Spiritual, may I recommend Hands of Light, by

Barbara Ann Brennan.

Bearing this in mind, it means that you and I are composed of atoms and molecules of varying structures and densities. Scientifically, we

already know that our body contain water, and can even rejuvenate and heal itself. Now extend that belief to the existence of the Human Energy Field, otherwise known as the Aura. This aura, or as I like to call it, your soul, comprises of more atoms and molecules which vibrate at a rate so fast that most people are not able to

see that part of ourselves.

This is the part of you that you are now learning to connect to and communicate with. Your Aura, simply put, holds all your feelings, emotions, experiences and infinite wisdom built up throughout your journey. When using your psychic a b i l i t i e s , a t w o w a y communication process is happening between the two parties involved; soul to soul communication or Aura

to Aura.

You as the Psychic extend your energy fi eld, making a connection to the soul of the sitter (your client). It is then that the information exchange begins. For those who are highly sensitive, this exchange can happen even without

you realising it.

This leads me to explain the use of energetic protection. As a sensitive, you will encounter many times when you will come across energetic conditions which may not feel appropriate for you. It can happen when you’re out shopping; when you’re at a friend’s house; when you are reading clients; it could even happen with this development

circle.

It is good practice to become aware of this and to develop an understanding that sometimes after working psychically, in whatever form, you may feel tired, drained or emotionally depleted. This happens for a variety of reasons, and you will learn to ascertain when it is appropriate to allow this to happen

and when it is not.

Energetic protection is a very personal issue, and should you find that you wish to use this type of protection, then you should start develop to an appropriate prayer and visualisation to assist with this. I do recommend using energ eti c protection during your attendance of

this course.

May I suggest the following

prayer -

“Divine Spirit, as I seek to raise my vibration in an effort to better understand myself and those around me, I ask for your loving protection so that only love and

understanding permeate my being.”

To enhance this prayer visualise some loving Angel wings being

wrapped around you.

Exercise to feel Energy

This exercise is very simple and designed for those of you who are not experienced with working with the universal energies. For me, this exercise always validates the

existence of these unseen energies.

Have fun with it and enjoy.

• Sit somewhere quiet where you will have a few minutes of undis-

turbed peace.

YOU TOO ARE A MEDIUM CONT’D

• Close your eyes and imagine a brilliant ray of sunshine pouring over you. So powerful, it warms you right

through.

• Once you feel warm, bring your two hands together in front of you,

about 15cm apart.

• Imagine this ray of sunshine pouring out of each hand filling the space between your hands like a brilliant round ball of energy; a

miniature sun, if you will.

• You may find varying forms of reactions in your hands to the energy. Feelings such as warmth, tingles, cool breezes, heaviness or pressure, are some of the different ways each one of us feel the energy. I, myself, most commonly feel

tingles.

• Once you have the yellow energy working in your hands, please spend a few minutes playing with your sun. Move your hands around to feel the difference when you manipulate the energy. Can you move them closer? What happens when you try to turn one in a clockwise direction and the

other anti-clockwise?

• After spending a few minutes doing this, we are now going to change the colour of the energy ball. To do this, imagine that the brilliant sunshine has given way to a crisp blue day with a waterfall flowing over

you.

As this waterfall makes its way through you hands and into your ball of energy, pay attention to the subtle changes your ball will make. Does it change temperature? Does it feel heavier or lighter? Are you now feeling warmth, tingles, cool breezes, heaviness or pressure and is this

different to before?

I hope you had fun with this exercise. For those of you that may be think-ing, “I didn’t feel anything”, please persist a few times, ensuring you have the appropriate environment.

Even try it with a friend.

The more you practice, the more

your awareness of the energies will increase and it will become easier to

feel the subtle differences.

Until next issue, with love
