Although we work closely with the University, we’re a completely independent organisation. This means we’re 100% focused on representing our members, the 20,000+ students at the University of Huddersfield.

Based at the heart of campus, on Floor 5 of Student Central, we run a variety of services for students including:
SU Shop; which not only sells all the student essentials but employs a large number of student staff.
Advice Centre; where we provide year-long support and advice on just about everything.
HudLets; our own lettings agency where students can compare all the halls and private houses in one place, safe in the knowledge that the landlords are carefully vetted by our staff.
As we are a registered charity there are no shareholders, only members; any surplus made from our trading operations goes towards providing services for our students.
ABIT ABOUT US
Sports Clubs and Societies are also a large part of what we’re about, run by students and supported by us, we currently have around 100 Sports Clubs and Societies ranging from Ultimate Frisbee to a Disney Society!
SUPPORT WE OFFERWe also support our members to develop skills and gain experience through the volunteering opportunities we offer, campaigning we support and representation through things like our Course Rep programme, Student Champions and BAME (Black, Asian, Minority, Ethnic) Ambassador Scheme.
We’re run by a Student Officer team, made up of five students who have been elected by the student body. They form half of the Board of Trustees and are accountable to our members.

Everyone knows Freshers’, but we’re so much more than that. We run a calender of events that grows each year wih events like Bonfire Night, Give It A Go taster sessions and trips to local and national attractions.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
Post Title: Inspiring Future Leaders Project Lead

Responsible to: Student Engagement Coordinator
Place of work: Queensgate Campus
Grade & Salary: £8.25 per hour
Hours of work: 200 hours annualised
‘Inspiring Future Leaders’ is a project where the Students’ Union aims to take on students who are passionate about engaging students, listening to student concerns and turning them into action during their penultimate year of study. If you have an aspiration for leadership and a desire to develop, this is the role for you. We train you and support you to run a project that is linked closely to our elected officers objectives. You will be responsible for planning and running the project whilst managing the project budget and your hours throughout, leading students on campus and beyond.
PURPOSE OF THE POST• To engage students by running a successful project throughout the academic year.• To develop into being a leader of students on campus.• To act as an ambassador of the Students’ Union.• To work in a manner which reflects the values of the organisation.

Leadership • An appetite to develop your skills.• A desire to lead groups of people in the future, maybe even to lead the
Students’ Union.• Ability to speak to students on campus or a willingness to develop towards
being able to.• A passion for listening to and acting on student opinion.• An aspiration to drive change on campus, in the local area or nationally.
Project Management • Design and deliver a project to students that engages them on an issue that affects students.
• Ability to follow guidelines for project planning within the organisation.• Ability to be organised and keep to deadlines.• Ability to clearly and concisely communicate with key stakeholders.• Ability to be flexible when the need arises.• Ability to think outside of the box when troubleshooting problems.• Desire to engage students in something that matters.• Attention to detail and concern for, and commitment to, quality.
Operational Standards • Ensure a project plan is written and kept to, making amends as and when required.
• Ensure the project keeps to agreed expenditure.• Ensure the highest level of service is provided to customers through
effective team work.• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the Students’ Union, its services and
activities.• Maximise engagement of students through actively promoting the
Students’ Union.

Other Duties & General Responsibilities
• Work in a manner, which reflects the values of the organisation as shown in the Union’s Constitution, policies and Strategic Plan.
• Act in accordance with the personnel policies and procedures as approved by the Staff Committee of the Union including Health and Safety Procedures and Staff Protocol Agreement and Social Media Policy.
• Act always in accordance with the financial regulations of the Union as outlined in the Constitution and detailed in the Financial Procedures Manual.
• Carry out duties with due regard to the Students’ Union’s Equal Opportunities Policy at all times.
• Undertake such other duties as may reasonably be expected given the incumbent’s qualifications, experience and grade.
• Contribute to the positive image of the Union with students, University & community.
• Attend and provide reports to appropriate meetings as and when required by the Union.
• Carry out the above duties at other sites of the University as necessary.
