Family Center GrantThe Family Center of Washington County is pleased to announce
that they are the recipient of a grant from We Energies Foundation in the amount of $1,000. The grant is in support of their new program, Rainbow Support Initiative. The program will provide peer support to children and adults grieving a loss from a difficult life event. The program will give families tools to get through tough life events without resorting to destructive behavior such as alcohol and substance abuse, anger, and involvement with unsuitable friends that may lead them to inappropriate behavior. Separation from or loss of parents due to death, divorce, incarcera-tion or removal to foster care will have a major impact on the child’s psychological development and possibly on his/her cognitive and physical development as well. The Rainbows program helps chil-dren alleviate depression and anxiety, improve communication with their family, develop and strengthen problem solving skills, and appropriate behavior and anger management and it will also improve school attendance and academic performance.
The Family Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening and supporting families and caregivers through par-enting classes/workshops, Family Fun Nights, Nights out with Dad, family drop-in playtime, a resource library and family coaching. The Family Center is located at 1517 Lang St. in West Bend. For more information please contact the Family Center at 262-338-9461 or www.wcfamilycenter.org.
The We Energies Foundation, established in November 1982, has invested more than $143 million in support of activities of nonprof-it, tax-exempt organizations in communities served by Wisconsin Energy Corporation and its subsidiaries, including WE Energies. The Foundation strives to create brighter futures for the communi-ties in which we do business.
Funding for initiatives supported by the We Energies Foundation is derived from the shareholder portion of earnings and dividends paid by Wisconsin Energy Corporation. Grants do not affect the profitability of Wisconsin Energy Corporation nor are they reflected in the prices customers pay for services from the utility subsidiaries of Wisconsin Energy.

The KIDS from Wisconsin program was developed in 1969 under the sponsorship of the Wisconsin State Fair. KIDS now functions as a non-profit corporation, with the Fair and InPro Corp. of Muskego as its major sponsors. Performing live annually for more than 120,000 people across the Midwest, the KIDS from Wisconsin collaborates with some of the country’s best writers, arrangers, and choreographers.
Tuition for the workshop is a donation of two canned goods, which will go to the Hartford Food Pantry. Camp Super Hero Scholarships
The Volunteer Center of Washington County is excited to announce that it received a grant from the Greater Milwaukee
Foundation’s Children’s Experimental Opportunities Fund which will provide scholarships to students wanting to attend Camp Super Hero who could not otherwise afford to participate. Camp Super Hero is a youth volunteer day camp for students entering grades 5 – 12. The program was developed to instill in youth the importance of volunteerism so they grow into strong leaders.
Camp Super Hero kicks off with Teen Week (grades 9-12) July 13 – 17. Students will explore issues surrounding housing and hunger while serving with Habitat for Humanity and the Full Shelf Food Pantry. They will also receive leadership training and return for Youth Week as camp leaders. Youth Week (grades 5 – 8) runs July 27 – 31 and students will work with 5 different nonprofits including Rides and Reins, Volunteers for a Beautiful Hartford, Cedar Community, Wellspring, the Museum of Wisconsin Art & the Volunteer Center. Each session runs Monday – Friday from 9 am – 3 pm. Cost is $150 for high school students (includes two weeks of camp) and $100 for grades 5- 8. Transportation, lunch, snacks, Super Hero t-shirts, and water bottles will be provided. To register visit www.volunteernow.net or call Melanie Gonring at (262) 338-8256 to inquire about scholarships.
“The Volunteer Center is committed to creating a commu-nity where every person discovers their power to make a difference. Camp Super Hero epitomizes that, highlighting the amazing contri-butions youth can make to our community,” said Susan Finch Millin, Volunteer Center Executive Director. “We are so grateful to the Greater Milwaukee Foundation for providing scholarships so every student who wants to attend has the opportunity to do so.”
This year, Camp Super Hero is also supported by the Green Bay Packers Foundation. The Foundation, established in 1986, has dis-tributed more than $4.8 million for charitable purposes throughout Wisconsin. Andrew Mortenson of Thrivent Financial, Johnson Bus, & Wittenberger Bus also support this effort. Additional sponsorships are available to local businesses wishing to support Camp Super Hero and other Volunteer Center programming. Call (262) 338-8256 for details.

Get Your Dance OnLearn how to cha-cha, shuffle, and samba with the Schauer
School of the Arts. Three different ballroom workshops are being offered on Wednesday, July 15, Tuesday, August 11, and Thursday August 27 from 6:00 to 7:00pm. No partner is needed and all experience levels are welcome; students are invited to dress comfortably and be ready to move. Workshops will be held in Pikes Peak banquet room on the upper level of the Schauer Arts Center in downtown Hartford.
On Wednesday, July 15, students will break the ice on the dance floor with the Cha Cha Slide, Cuban Shuffle, Samba Line Dance, and the Electric Slide. The next workshop features the Push-Pull, Nightclub two-step, and previews Foxtrot and Swing moves. “A Night with the Rat Pack” is the theme of the final summer work-shop where students will dance the Foxtrot and Swing to the music of Dean Martin, Joey Bishop, Peter Lawford, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Frank Sinatra.
Instructor Ally Furlong’s diverse background began with piano lessons at the age of 3 and ballet at the local rec department shortly thereafter. Throughout the years she continued taking classes in ballet along with tap, jazz, modern, Irish, and pointe. Her passion for ballroom dance was sparked by watching Championship Ballroom Dancing/America’s Ballroom Challenge on PBS. Ally studied ball-room through local group classes and private coaching in the greater Milwaukee area for more than 10 years. Teaching for the past six years has inspired her to seek out more dance education to grow as a dancer and a teacher.
Tuition for the ballroom workshops is $5 each or two non-per-ishable food items per workshop. To register for classes or request a brochure, contact the Schauer Center by phone at 262-670-0560, ext. 4 or in person, Monday through Friday from 11:30am to 5:30pm, at 147 N. Rural Street in Hartford. For a complete list of classes or to register online, visit SchauerCenter.org/CSA.

Make your own filmThe Schauer School of the Arts is excited to partner with First
Star Media to present Script to Screen Camp Monday-Wednesday, July 27-29. The camp is an introductory movie pro-duction class that will bring out students’ creativity and passion.
Script to Screen Camp introduces the process of creating short films. Youth ages 11 to 15 will go through the steps of writ-ing, directing, and acting in their very own film. All equipment necessary in making the digital film will be provided, including Canon HD camcorders and professional audio equipment. Each student will be mailed home a copy of the finished project.
Instructor Nick Bailey is the current owner of First Star Media based in Waukesha, WI. Since they began filming weddings and dance recitals in 2006, First Star Media has quickly become the region’s favorite choice for videography for dance recitals, wed-dings, and much more. In 2011, the group released Diary of an Ex-Child Star which is currently being pitched to network televi-sion stations.
To register for Script to Screen Camp or request a brochure, contact the Schauer Center by phone at 262-670-0560, ext. 4 or in person, Monday through Friday from 11:30am to 5:30pm, at 147 N. Rural Street in Hartford. Enrollment is limited. For a complete list of classes and descriptions, visit SchauerCenter.org/CSA.
