ABOUT SCHAUER SCHOOL OF THE ARTSFounded in Fall 2001, the Schauer School of the Arts (SSA) believes the arts are for everyone. Our purpose is to give the finest quality instruction to students by providing a multi-disciplinary curriculum.

GENERAL INFORMATION

KIDS FROM WISCONSINWORKSHOP INTENSIVE NEW!

Before the Kids from Wisconsin perform at the Schauer Center, learn what it takes to get ready for the show! Students will work with the KIDS choreographer and vocal staff to learn a number from their high-energy show. Then it’s off to the theater! Students will meet the KIDS themselves to experience unloading the production and rehearsing. Finally, the students and KIDS will take turns performing what they learned before sitting down for a talkback session with the KIDS.

Registration must be done through the Schauer Center. All participants must bring a signed consent form, which can be found at: KidsFromWisconsin.org/Outreach

Pre-registered workshop participants will receive a free child ticket to watch one of the KIDS performances on Sat, July 27 at 2:00 or 7:00 pm. Offer good with the purchase of one adult ticket.

CIRCUS ARTS EXPLORATION Stages come in all shapes and sizes. Enter “the ring” and explore many of the ground skills a circus performer needs to know! Basics of flow and spin (juggling, poi, hoops, spinning plates, and more) and balancing skills (stilts, rolling globe, and rola bola) will be introduced within the first three classes. The last three classes will provide freedom to hone skills of interest and work in small teams to merge each individual’s strengths into a mini showcase performance! Come stretch the boundaries of what you thought possible in a safe, supportive environment. Instruction is tailored to meet each student’s needs and encourage growth at a safe and comfortable pace. The focus of this class is as much on developing body-awareness, learning to move with confidence, thinking creatively, and working together as a team, as it is on skill development. Students are welcome to bring their own yoga mat for warm-ups, and any circus equipment that they may have, but it is not required. Enrollment limited at 12 students.

Workshop InformationEveryone who auditions is invited to attend our FREE Missoula workshop series! Workshops are scheduled 2:45 pm - 3:45 pm on Tue, Wed, and Thur during Missoula’s residency week. Designed to help students

focus on specific elements of theater such as improv, acting basics, and makeup techniques. Pre-registration required for workshops. Sign-ups take place on audition day.

Rehearsal InformationStudents must be available for all rehearsals and performances - no exceptions. Rehearsals include a lunch break where appropriate.

Rehearsals are scheduled Mon, August 12 through Fri, August 16 between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. Detailed schedule will be released immediately following auditions on August 12.

Supporting roles are generally needed for half days (10:00 am - 12:00 pm and/or 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm). Main characters must attend all week for the entire time frame.

MUSIC EXPLORERS Music stimulates both creative and analytical thinking, so it is great brain food. And it’s fun! Begin to learn the language of music by singing, dancing, counting, playing instruments, and listening. Adults are encouraged to attend class with their students to set an example and to reinforce what is being learned. *Younger siblings are welcome to join in the fun for FREE!

MUSICAL THEATER Students will learn to combine singing with movement and character through a focus on popular songs from the stage. This class is great for experienced students who want to sharpen their performance skills, as well as newcomers who want to learn more about musical theater.

HOLIDAY HARMONIES NEW!

Celebrate the holiday songs that are so good you want to sing them all year long! Take inspiration from traditional holiday songs, as well as popular Broadway songs that put everyone in a festive spirit. Songs will be embellished with choreography and tied together with short pieces of comedic acting. Students will play an active role in choosing their props and costumes to perform a final show that’s fun for the whole family! This small group setting is perfect for students who would like to learn more about musical theater or gain more comfort in their skills.

Our SYSO Summer Workshop gives students an opportunity to continue working on their skills over the summer months. Open to current SYSO members as well as new students who would like to gain experience in working with an ensemble. Students are encouraged to book a Placement Audition following their participation in our camp to help them prepare for our school year SYSO program.

DANCE

The Schauer Arts Center offers Ballet classes in partnership with Milwaukee Ballet School & Academy (MBSA). MBSA provides a mix of classes and camps for all age levels and abilities. Summer classes are the perfect opportunity for current students to enhance technique for the next year’s classes. New attendees will have the chance to experience the official school of Wisconsin’s only professional ballet company.

Classes include a collaborative teaching team and professional ballet curriculum under the direction of MBSA’s Rolando Yanes. All Ballet classes are taught at the Creative Arts Studios (30 S. Johnson Street, Hartford, WI behind The Booster building).

DRESS CODE FOR DANCE CLASSESBoth the Schauer School of the Arts and Milwaukee Ballet School & Academy require specific dance attire during the school year. Our dress codes are more flexible in the summer, but we do ask students to follow traditional dance attire protocols such as solid-colored leotards, pink or neutral tights, basic black and white for boys, shoes appropriate to your class genre, and hair secured away from the face.

Deadline for Registration: Please register two weeks prior to the start date for any given program.

Class Size: All SSA classes carry a minimum/maximum class size that determines if the class will be offered. Classes not meeting the minimum may be cancelled. Maximum levels are determined by classroom space or instructor/student ratios.

Payment Plans may be arranged for any class over $100. A minimum of 25% of the tuition fee must be paid prior to the start of the first class/rehearsal. Payment plans must be paid with a credit or debit card, and completed agreement must be turned into the Schauer Center prior to the first day of class.

Financial Aid: Need-based assistance is offered on a first come, first serve basis. Applications available upon request.

Refunds: A 50% refund of the tuition in the form of a gift certificate will be in effect through the second class/rehearsal. After the second class, NO REFUNDS.

10% Discount if registering for more than one class in a session. Discount applies to the lesser value class. One-day workshops and classes under $40 are NOT subject to 10% multiple class/sibling discount.
