Dear Donors,

It has been quite a while, when I communicated to you last about our activities and plans through this newsletter. However, on a day today basis, we keep posting updates on most sound media platforms and I am hopeful a lot many of you would be reading those updates.

The model of Lok Kalyan Samiti is some ways unique than other voluntary organizations. Our work is run on your support and contribution. So, for us every individual donor is an important partner in providing whatever services we offer to poor and needy be it in healthcare, eye care, remedial & vocational education, or otherwise. It is a great tribute to you all that we have together made this model sustainable, doable and reachable.

The festival of lights, Diwali, is round the corner. It is one of the festivals in the calendar year that each one of us always cherish and look forward to eagerly. Diwali is an occasion of celebration, shared happiness and thanks giving. It is about spending time with family, extended family and friends. Diwali is also an expression of inclusiveness, social harmony and civilizational continuity.

Like every year, we at LKS, also issue the customary appeal to all of you on the occasion of Diwali reminding you of the less fortunate, who because of poverty and ill health get excluded from festivities. You have always remembered it and responded overwhelmingly.

This time once again, we will be looking forward to receiving lot more donations from you all so that our work benefits more people in need.

Coming to activities at LKS, all works are going on as per routine. The free cataract surgery camps as you already know take place on a weekly basis. This way eyesight of many a people have been restored and as a matter of fact, the 100% success rate brings in more patients on word of mouth and referrals to our satisfaction.

We have modernized our dental clinic at Sucheta Bhawan (Delhi) and made it more comprehensive. Our child centric activities at Nand Nagri are running as per schedule; you will get to read about a few of these here in this newsletter. We held a few camps to build awareness on the benefits of physiotherapy, breastfeeding etc.

Also, a big thank you to all our sponsors, whose encouraging presence at our eye camps is motivating. We are always looking to improve and innovate. In this process, we have zeroed in on inducting Influenza flu vaccine for adults. And of course, it also needs your blessings.

The girl, a resident of Mundka village in Delhi, had

suffered a fall from height in November 2017. After

this, she was operated at Ganga Ram Hospital. She

continued to be treated by doctors with medicine for

pottis spine but didn’t get any relief or walking ability.

Eventually she was brought to ISIH for rehab and that

is where the demand for a wheelchair arose.

The economic conditions of the family of the girl are not

good. Her father has a psychiatric problem and is

unemployed for the last five years and her mother is a

housewife. It is a small shop run by her grandfather

which is supporting the family of six. So, when a

request was forwarded by ISIH, LKS without losing

time agreed to pay for her wheelchair.

We pray for her health. The girl, has said, she won’t

give up her studies and will continue to chase her

dreams. God bless the Brave girl!

to the patients. Such a noble gesture acts as an inspiration and make us all feel good.

In the month of March this year, LKS bought a

wheelchair for a 15-year old girl, who was admitted in

Indian Spinal Injuries Hospital (ISIH), Delhi for Pottis

Spine condition. This brought a smile on her face and

gave her a new hope to prepare for life ahead.

She Promises to Continue Her Study

A Donor’s Wish

An esteemed donor, Ms. Sohina Ompaul, expressed

her desire to donate post-operative medicines to a

with her and facilitated her visit and medicine

distribution in August month. She came accompanied

by her husband and two children.

We would like to thank all those donors who came forward to donate black goggles, specs and thurmus

Physiotherapy is nowadays a very important adjunct to the treatment for bone and joint conditions. Lok Kalyan Samiti, has been running a full-fledged physiotherapy centre at its Sucheta Bhawan facility located near ITO (Delhi). LKS’s Gurgaon center too has a very popular physiotherapy unit.

In order to pass on the benefits of the services available to more patients and also to increase the awareness about the physiotherapy centre, a day long free physiotherapy camp was held on June 11 at Lok Kalyan Samiti’s head office housing its main hospital. Four days later, a similar free camp was held on June 15 at Chakkarpur centre (Gurgaon). Prior to this, pamphlets were distributed to incoming patients and also local neighborhood markets and public places.

A total of 30 patients turned up during the June 11 camps. They were first screened and consulted by the

orthopedic surgeon/consultant, who based on patient case history and examination referred them for physiotherapy. No fee was charged for either of the two services. Those requiring a lab/blood test as part of the evaluation were given a 50% discount on these tests.

In all a total of 36 modules were applied on 18 patients in physiotherapy centre free of cost and those requiring follow up were advised accordingly. The treatments included cold and hot packs, IFT, Traction, Ultra sonic therapy and wax.

My wife was suffering from Frozen shoulder problem. We tried

physiotherapy at my residence through online services. But there was no

relief in the pain despite the charges being very high. Then we visited your

centre (LOK KALYAN SAMITI, Sucheta Bhawan near I.T.O) for

physiotherapy treatment of my wife. And to my surprise, after a few

sittings alone, there was considerable relief and my wife was fully

satisfied with the services. Hence I have also started my treatment for

cervical pain in my neck.

I, also want to add that LKS’s physiotherapy centre is very neat and clean

and well equipped. The Physiotherapist is very polite and intelligent and

the assistant also posseses the necessary expertise to provide satisfactory

services to all kinds of patients needing physio treatment.

We are very grateful towards Lok Kalyan Samiti.

Physiotherapy techniques were used as far back as 460BC, when early physicians such as Hippocrates practiced elements of Physiotherapy like manual therapy and massage. Physiotherapy has been developing since then to become what it is today… a science evolved from evidence based research. Physiotherapy is basically the science of diagnosing and treating injuries or diseases by using mostly physical means. The main aim is to reduce pain and minimise dysfunction by using evidence based techniques. Physiotherapy encompasses all areas of the lifespan from infants to the elderly in areas such as musculoskeletal, orthopaedics, rheumatology, respiratory , neurology, sports in jur ies and women’s/men’s health.

Physiotherapy in recent times has gained rapid popularity. Several conditions ranging from frozen shoulders to cervical spondylitis to tennis elbow, arthritis of joints, low back pain and many other bony and muscular pains can be treated using physiotherapy. By making use of several exercises, electrical modalities like muscle stretches, tractions, hot and cold applications, electrical stimulations, ultrasonic wave therapy, physiotherapy is effective in managing pain arising out of mainly musculoskeletal, orthopaedics disorders and conditions.

As mentioned earlier, physiotherapy can be successfully used in cardiac disorders and neurological disorders like cerebral palsy and loss of balance. Proper and regular exercises, stretches, tractions and other advices by your physiotherapist can help to treat balance conditions. With

advanced age, many elderly people lose their balance due to onset of Parkinson’s disease and degeneration of central nervous system. This again can be treated with physiotherapy.

A number of small children often have congenital deformities in their limbs and their growth is not upto the mark. The limb function may even deteriorate due to deformities. Physiotherapy is used to help them and correct the condition with a good success rate.

Lok Kalyan Samiti, is always looking forward and adopting programs to help alleviate sufferings of the people especially the marginalized, needy and poor. So, when an opportunity came, the Samiti set up a full-fledged physiotherapy centre at Sucheta Bhawan, its head office in 2012. The centre has all the latest machines, tools and other facilities. The centre works on all the week days during day time and is manned by highly trained physiotherapists. The Chakkarpur centre also houses a physiotherapy unit with facilities. In fact, this physiotherapy clinic has scripted several success stories and is very popular with the patients. Availing these facilities is very easy. One can register with a nominal fee and receive consultation. The doctors evaluate the condition and accordingly start treatment. The presence of orthopaedic doctors, lab, X-ray and other diagnostic facilities provide a comprehensive ecosystem to get evaluated for an effective course of physiotherapy.

So, don’t let the pain and suffering ruin your normal life. If you suffer from a condition, try to figure out if physiotherapy can help.

Don’t let your Body Painsto take a toll on your Life, try Physiotherapy
