Dr. Philip Streit is the chairman of the Institute and the Academy for Children, Youth and Family, Member of the IPPA Board of Directors and coordinator of Se-ligman Europe. He is a psychologist and psychotherapist.

It is well known that positive-psychological interventions are effective; they are indispensable in coaching, educa-tion, therapy, organization development, management and supervision. Therefore, the main question of the Hamburg symposium concerns the mechanisms of ac-tion. Prof. Dr. Willibald Ruch from the University of Zürich begins with the latest � ndings in the use of strengths. Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Funke from Hamburg will talk about the use of Positive Psychology in psychiatries. Dr. Ernst Fritz-Schubert and Prof. Dr. Olaf-Axel Burow pres-ent their concept on Positive Education. In the afternoon, the president-elect of the International Positive Psychol-ogy Association (IPPA) Barbara L. Fredrickson, Ph.D. introduces her research project “The Upward Spiral of Positivity” in which she fascinatingly shows how positiv-ity and positive emotions in� uence our wellbeing. One of the highlights will be Prof. Dr. Gerald Hüther’s talk about “Positive Psychology and the Development of Potential” on Saturday evening. On Sunday morning, Prof. Dr. Tobias Esch will tell us how it lies in our own hands to program happiness in our brains in “New Findings on the Neurobiology of Wellbe-ing”. Afterwards, Dr. Philip Streit is going to present his thoughts on Positive Psychology from a systemic point of view. The effects of Positive Psychology on so-called professionals with the background of � ourishing instead of burning out will be the topic in Daniela Blickhan’s pre-sentation. Dr. med Gunther Schmidt, the head of the Milton-Erickson-Institute in Heidelberg, will draw a con-nection between hypnotherapy and Positive Psychology. The � nale of the symposium will be Prof. Dr. Martin Selig-man’s discourse “The Cutting Edge of Positive Psychol-ogy” where he will explain why he revises his theory on learned helplessness and present the consequences of Positive Psychology.

Prof. Dr. Willibald Ruch is a professor for personality psychology and diagnostics at the University of Zürich. His studies focus on moral � bre and its usage in Positive Psychology.

Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Funke was the chief physician for neurology and psychia-try/psychotherapy in Hamburg. He developed the successful concept of the so-called “Gentle Psychiatry” in which Positive Interventions are being applied.

Prof. Dr. Olaf-Axel Burow is a German Teacher, Gestalt pedagogue and professor for general education. The main focus of his studies is the so-called “Appreciative School Development”.

Daniela Blickhan is a certi� ed psychologist and has been working as a trainer and coach

for 25 years. Together with her husband Claus she founded the Inntal Institute in 1991. She

is a foundation member of the holding organization for Positive Psychology (DACH-PP).

Prof. Dr. Tobias Esch is a professor for integrative health promotion at the Uni-versity of Coburg, associated scientist for neuroscience in New York and visiting professor at Harvard Medical School.

CONTRIBUTORS

Prof. Dr. Gerald Hüther is a professor for neurobiology and runs the central unit for neurobiological preventive research at the psychiatric clinic of the University of Göttingen. He is a pioneer in the concept of the potential development.

Barbara Fredrickson, Ph.D., is a professor for psychology and principal investigator of the “Po-

sitive Emotions and Psychophysiology” Lab at the University of North Carolina. She has sig-

ni� cantly in� uenced the development of the � eld of Positive Emotions in Positive Psychology.

Dr. Ernst Fritz-Schubert studied economics and law in Heidelberg. Until 2011 he was principal of the Willy-Hellpach School in Heidelberg, where the subject “Hap-piness” is being taught. He is the chief of the Fritz-Schubert Institute.

Dr. med Gunther Schmidt is a certi� ed economist and specialist for psychoso-matic medicine and psychotherapy as well as medical head of the SysTelios Private Clinic for psychosomatic health development. He is a student of Milton Erickson.

Prof. Dr. Martin Seligman is a professor at the PENN University in Philadelphia. He is known worldwide for his theory of learned helplessness and he made Positive Psychology part of scienti� c psychology.

What determines us in the present, what has determined our experiences in the past and what will determine our visions of a successful future? The congress on the future of Positive Psychology in Vienna will try to answer those questions. Starting with Dr. Günter Lueger’s talk on the power of the future and how to utilize it through focusing on po-tential. Dr. Günter Lueger is head of the institute in Vienna and used to be professor for staff

management. He gives presentations and he also wrote books on the questions of ma-

nagement and education with the emphasis on “The focus on solutions and potential”.

Dr. Tayyab Rashid teaches and researches at the University of Toronto and to-gether with Prof. Martin Seligman he founded the Positive Psychology. The publi-cation in a book form will follow soon.

Jaro Raiser, founder of HIKINGDAYS – systemic organization development and coaching, Positive Psychology and mental training. He is experienced in internati-onal management and projects as well as in general leadership.

Johannes Eichstaedt works at the Positive Psychology Center of the PENN Uni-versity and practices Big Data Analysis. Eichstaedt uses data from social media to measure the psychological state of larger and smaller populations.

Peter Railton has been Gregory S. Kavka professor and professor for philosophy at the University of Michigan since 1979. In 2004 he was elected Fellow of the Ameri-can Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Chandra Sripada is an assistant lecturer for psychiatry and philosophy at the Uni-versity of Michigan. His latest research concentrated on the question about a brain processing unit which focuses only on predicting the future.

Dr. Philip Streit is chairman of the Institute and the Academy for Children, Youth and Family, Member of the IPPA Board of Directors and coordinator of Seligman Europe. He is a psychologist and a psychotherapist.

Prof. Dr. Matthias Varga von Kibéd studied Philosophy, logic and scienti� c theory and mathematics at the University in Munich. Together with his wife, he is one of the leading experts for “Aufstellungstheorie”.

Prof. Dr. Martin Seligman is a professor at the PENN University in Philadelphia. He is known worldwide for his theory of learned helplessness and he has made Positive Psychology part of scienti� c psychology.

Univ. Prof. Dr. Joachim Bauer is a neurobiologist, doctor and psychotherapist. His last groundbreaking book is „Self-Controlling. The rediscovery of the free will“.

Dr. Mag. Markus Ebner teaches and researches Positive Leadership at the Uni-versity of Vienna. He is well experienced in coaching in the � elds of leadership, communication psychology and team development.

Prof. Dr. Roy Baumeister is a professor for social psychology at the Florida State University. His working focus is on the meaning of life, free will, sexuality, self-controll, mechanisms of self-assertion, and motivation.
