“Youth – Level – People to People Dialogue
The Spirit of Youth and Transformation of ASEAN”
Measuring Youth Potential on Commemorating ASEAN Community 2015
ASEAN Community 2015 based on economy, political, socio-cultural aspect is already insight.
The time left for entering new ASEAN collaboration chapter is only two years and 5 months,
meanwhile the home work is still piling up. Indonesia must face ASEAN Community 2015,
regardless many obstacles ahead.
ASEAN Community, related to ASEAN sole market, begins by the end of 2015. Since then,
ASEAN economy will be integrated. Export and import of goods, service and capital
commodities in ASEAN regions will be recognized and local government will not loose the
authority to regulate the trading system protecting local commodities. ASEAN countries will
become wider market with 565 millions population and almost half of them are Indonesian.
Indonesia has the significant leadership role to precede and empower the implementation of
ASEAN Community program. The important message of recent and future ahead is that ASEAN
Community need to be more socialized. Modern ASEAN should be able to improve betterquality of quality and to create picture of regional existence with better quality standards.
ASEAN perimeter should be more democratic and respecting human rights, while expanding
ASEAN society to be more relevant with the need of ASEAN existence on international basis.
Picture of broad ASEAN with her future image of wide and strategic cooperation with various
countries (i.e, USA, Uni Eropa, Australia, and New Zealand) provide optimism that ASEAN
would be able to create new opportunities as well as to change challenges into opportunities.
Indonesia as the founder of ASEAN should be able to precede and lead the realization of ASEAN
Comuunity 2015. These importance becomes mutual responsibility. Does Preamble of ASEAN
Charter begin with We, the Peoples, doesn’t it?
All ASEAN countries should prepare themselves to accomplish 252 duties for the actualization
of ASEAN Community 2015, which has been done by 77.8 percent. Indonesia, including her local
and central goverment, as well as business sectors and her people must be prepared for ASEAN
Community 2015. Nevertheless, Indonesian youth of Ikatan Mahasiswa Muhammadiyah dan
Alumni Pertukaran Pemuda Antar Negara (PPAN) are called of duty to involve and participate
on the occasion of ASEAN Community 2015.
