o Recent research from IDC predicts Android’s continued growth in the smartphone market because of its lower-priced devices. However, application developers are expected to continue focus on iOS devices because of owners' habits to pay for more high-quality content.

o iPad browsers are averaging 4 minutes and 50 seconds on a shopping site, which is 3% longer than desktop visitors and 16% longer than people coming from other tablets and smartphones, according to Bazaarvoice.

o A three-part series on smartphone owners’ in-store experiences sponsored by AisleBuyer,

was unveiled this week. Key findings include:

─ 41 percent said they would rather see retailers replace traditional cash registers with tablets to make room for additional merchandise.

─ As retailers roll out mobile in-store applications, consumers need to be educated on industry terminology. According to the survey, only 12 percent know what NFC means. Less than half (43%) know what a mobile wallet is, and only 42 percent understand the term “mobile self-checkout.”

─ The most sought-after features of in-store mobile apps include: mobile coupons, store information (location, hours, directions), mobile self-checkout & digital receipts

o Rumors say that Google is planning to launch an online store similar to Amazon and Apple to sell co-branded tablet devices.

o BIGinsight found in its latest consumer survey for NRF that 82.3% of online consumers plan to celebrate Easter – a number that has continued to inch up since 2007 (79.5%). Consumers intend to shop across channels, with almost 9 out of 10 online Easter shoppers buying food and candy, two-thirds expect to buy gifts, and approximately half will be in the market for greeting cards and clothing, followed by flowers and decorations. The combined net average forecast spend per online consumer celebrating Easter this year is $150.70, a nice start to Quarter 2.

─ Smartphone owners celebrating Easter will use their device to research products, compare prices, and look up retailer information. Similarly, tablet owners will use those to research products and compare prices, find retailer information, purchase products and redeem coupons.
