Introduction

ThisusermanualisforusewithAllendale-UltrasonicIndustrialultrasoniccleaningtanks.Allcleaningtanksshouldbehandledwithcaretoensurelong-lastingperformance.

Pleasereadandunderstandthisusermanualbeforeusingyourultrasoniccleaner.

Initial setup and Fluid selectionEnsurethetankispositionedonalevelstablesurfacewithlockablewheelssecuredtopreventmovement.Ultrasonicgeneratorsshouldbepositionedoutofareaswherethereisariskofsplashingorhighhumidity.WestronglyrecommendthatRCDResidualcurrentdetectorsareusedonthesuppliestotheheatingcircuitandgenerator/ssupplies,thismayprovideadditionalprotectiontotheOperatorandtheunit,shouldafaultconditionoccurorthegeneratororleadssufferwateringress.Donotuseanyfluidswhichcouldpotentiallydamagethestainlesssteelbathe.gacids.Aqueoussolvent/detergentsolutionsshouldbemadeupwithdeionised,demineralisedordistilledwaterunlessitisknownthesolventcontainsawatersoftener.Calciumcarbonateandotherimpuritiesintapwatercanaffect/reducethecleaningpropertiesofthesolutionsandproduceundesirablesideeffectssuchasdepositsandstaining.Volatilesolventswithlowboilingtemperaturesshouldnotbeused.Theultrasonicactioncancausethemtoheatrapidlyandthevapourisafireriskandmaybedetrimentaltothehealthoftheoperator.

Routine maintenance• UltrasonicGenerator/sshouldbemonitoredtoensurethecoolingfanintherearoftheunit

doesn’tbecomecloggedwithdust,anysignificantbuild-upofdustshouldberemovedbyacompetentperson.

• ThefinishoftheStainlesssteelbathcanbemaintainedthroughregularcleaningwithadrycloth,thiscanbeimprovedifdampenedwithlightoil.

Daily Maintenance / Operation• Ensurepowerisdisconnectedbeforeattemptingtoaddorremovethefluid.

• Thefluidlevelwithinthebathshouldbemaintainedtoatleast¾ofthebathdepthtoensurenodamageisdonetothebathandheatingcircuit.

• Donotletitemsrestonthebaseofthebath,alwaysuseabasketorsuspenditems.

• Whensubmergingpartsensurethefluidisnotdisplacedoutofthebath.

• Donotusefluidsexceeding80°C.• Thereisnospecificadviceonwhentoreplacethecleaningsolutionsassolutionslifewill

dependonthevolumeofitemsbeingcleanedandhowcontaminatedtheyaretostartwith.Werecommendremovalofthesolutionfromthebathwhenitisnottobeusedforstorageinaseparatecontainer,filteringatthisstagemaybebeneficialtoprolongsolutionlife.Fluidremovalallowsfortheroutinecleaningofthebathwhereanaccumulationofcontaminantssuchasgrease,dirt,swarfandoilcanberemovedfromthebaseofthebath.Ifleftthebuild-upofhardcontaminantscanrubonthebaseofthebathandalongwiththeultrasonicactionthiscandamagethesurfaceofthebaseofthetank.

• IfanyoftheelectricalconnectionsbecomewetordamptheCleanershouldbeisolatedatthesuppliesandcheckedandrectifiedbyacompetentpersonbeforereuse.

• Cleaningcycletimeswillvarydependantontheitembeingcleaned,thesolutionbeingusedandthefinishrequired,typicallywewouldrecommenda5-minutecycleasastartingpointandincreasethecycletimeaccordinglyuntilthedesiredresultsareachieved.

• Themaximumcycleruntimemustbelimitedto45minutesandshouldbefollowedwitha20minutesrestperiodtoensurelongandreliableoperation.

• Neverdropanitemontothebaseofthebath.

• ADegasscycleisrecommendedatthebeginningofeachdayorwhenthesolutionhasbeenchanged,thepurposeoftheDegasscycleistopurgeexcesspocketsofairfromthesolutionwhichwillensurethecleaningresultsaremoreuniformandreliable.ADegasscyclecanbeperformedbyoperatingthePulse,orfullpowercleaningcycleforapproximately10minutes.IfyouforgettoDegassitislikelythatthecleaningactionislikelytobesignificantlyreducedonyourfirstclean.

• IfatanypointadefectisnoticedwiththeUltrasoniccleaner,leadsorgenerator/sisolatetheCleanerfromthesupplyandawaitadvisefromacompetentappointedperson,sparepartsareavailablebycontactingusdirectlyofviaourwebsitesparesandmaintenancesection.Engineersarealsoavailabletoofferhelpandsupportyouwithtechnicalqueriesandadvice.

• Careshouldbetakenwhenusingtheheaters,checkthethermostatpositionbeforepoweringonthecleaner.Donotleaveunattended,theheatingcircuitisnotintendedforcontinuoususe,itshouldbepoweredapproximately1hourbeforethecleaneristobeusedandswitchedoffattheendofeachworkingday.Failuretodothiswillreducetheelementsservicelifeandmayleadtoprematurefailure,notcoveredunderwarranty.

• Onlyresponsibleadultsshouldoperateultrasoniccleaners.

• Donotplacehandsorfingersinthebath.Contactexposuretoultrasoniccavitationissuspectedtocauselivingtissueandbonedamage.

Monthly Checks• PeriodicVerificationoftheCleanersfunctionalitymaybenecessarytoensureitisoperating

correctly(ThiswillbemorespecifictocertainindustriessuchasMedical/Dental)thesetestsaregenerallymonthlyandtendtobeacomparativetestbasedonthepreviousmonth’stestresultswhereyouarelookingforchangesincleaningresults.

• Thiscanbeconductedusingcalibratedsamplesynthetictestpiecesproducedtomimicbloodortissueyouwouldfindonmedicalinstrumentsorbyperformingafoiltest,onlargertanksthetankisusuallysectionedtoensureallzonesofthebatharemeetingtherequiredcleaninglevel.

Fault Finding and Troubleshooting• Theheatingcircuituses1000Wheaterpads,thenumberofpadsuseddependsonthe

Heatingpowerratingoftheunit,inclearsolutionsitcanbeseenthattheheatingelementscreatesmallcurrentsofmovementinthewaterandbubblesontheinsideofthebathnexttotheheaterpads,thiscanbeagoodwayofverifyingthatalltheheaterpadsareworkingshouldyouexperiencedelaysinheat-uptimes.

• Neverchangeafuseforahigherratedvalue.

• Technicalsupportandsparesareavailableifyoucontactusdirectly,wealsoofferachargeablerepairserviceifyouwishtoreturntheUltrasoniccleanertous.

Safety• Heatedfluidsandobjectsbeingcleanedareapotentialscoldrisk,appropriatePPEis

advised.

• WearingEarprotectionmaybenecessarywhilstoperatingtheultrasoniccleaner.

• Donotplacehandsorfingersinthebath.Contactexposuretoultrasoniccavitationissuspectedtocauselivingtissueandbonedamage.

How Ultrasonics Work

Objects Ultrasonics Can and Can’t Clean

Ground-Indirtandgrimecanbeextremelytediousandtime-consumingtoremovebyhand,however,itbecomeseasywiththeuseofultrasoniccleaners.Awiderangeofpartscanbecleanedbytheultrasonicprocesstoa‘LikeNew’conditionwiththerightdetergent/solventwithoutdamagingthepart.

Aphysicaleffectcalled“acousticcavitation”generatedintheliquidisresponsibleforthecleaningprocess.Cavitationsformwhenultrasonicwavestravelthroughliquid.Whenasoundwavetravelsthroughfluiditstretchesandcompressestheliquidtotransmitthesound,astheamplitudeofsuchsoundwavesincreasetoacriticallevelthenegativepressurescreatecavitiesinthewater.Asthesecavitiescollapsehightemperaturesandlargeforcesaregeneratedinaverylocalizedarea,theaccumulativeeffectofmillionsofthesecollapsingcavitiesisresponsibleforthecleaningactionandareparticularlyeffectivewhenusedwiththecorrectdetergent/solvent.Cavitationtakesplacewhereevertheliquidcomesintocontactwiththeobjectbeingcleaned,forexample;Finerecesses/cracksandobscuredchamberstocleanwheremanyothercleaningmethodscannotreach.

Ultrasoniccleanerscanbeusedtocleanjustaboutanything.Thelistbelownamesthemostcommon items cleaned by ultrasonics:

Mostobjectscanbeprocessedinanultrasonictankbuttherearesomeexceptionsincludingsomeplastics,preciousstonesandelectroniccomponents.Weadvisecheckingwiththemanufactureroftheobjectstobecleanedwhethertheyaresuitableforultrasoniccleaning.

• Taps,Dies,Millingcutters,• EngineBlocks,• Carburetors,• Jewellery(Gold,SilverandPlatinum)• Waterproofwatches• CD’sandDVD’s,• Medicalequipment/instruments(ultrasoniccleaningdoesnotsterilize,it

Around20minutesshouldbeenoughtoremove/loosenmostforeignbodiesfromtheitemyouarecleaning.Thereisnospecificrecommendeddurationforacleaningcyclebutgenerallytheshorterthebettertominimizethepossibilityofdamagetotheitembeingcleanedespeciallyifitistobecleanedregularly.Itwillreducetheultrasoniccleaningcycletimebysoakingtheitemtobecleanedforaslongaspossiblebeforeultrasoniccleaning.Itisrecommendedaftercleaningiscompletedtoperformashortrinsecyclewithcleanwatertoensurecleaningagentdepositsarenotleftinobscuredareasoftheobject.

Theactionofultrasoniccleaningwillslowlymicropitthesurfaceofmetals,aluminiumisparticularlyeasilyeroded.Thesofterthemetalthemorerapidlyitwillbeerodedwhichmaybeaconcernwithpolishedmachinedandaestheticpartswhichneedtobecleanedregularly.

Gemstonesincludingthoseusedinjewelleryandclocksshouldbecleanedwithgreatcaution.Somestonesaresurfaceeroded,canlosecolourorbecomediscoloured,crackduetoultrasonicshockand/orheat,seethelistbelowforstoneswhichareunsuitableforultrasoniccleaning,

Pleasenote;thisinformationisforreferenceonlyandisnotexhaustiveWeakergemstonesettingssuchasGrain,Paveandinvisiblecanbeloosenedbyultrasoniccleaning.MechanicallysuperiorsettingssuchasClawandruboverarenotgenerallyaffected.

Certainelectroniccomponentsareconsideredsensitivetoultrasoniccleaning,unfortunately,thereisverylittleempiricalpublisheddataregardingthissubject.Ingeneral,itissafetocleanthevastmajorityofelectroniccomponents.Tominimizethepotentialfordamage,turnthebasketoccasionallyduringthecycletostopultrasonichotspotsanduseaneffectiveaqueoussolventtoquicklyremovethecontamination.

Youshouldconsideradhesivesusedintheobjectbeingcleaned,thesecanbeattacked/softenedbythedetergent/solventusedandthebondunderminedbytheultrasoniceffect.

Fullyimmerseitemintothewater.Ensuretherearenoairpocketsinrecessesandblindholes/chamberstoensuretheultrasoniceffectcanpropagatetoallsurfacesoftheitembeingcleaned.

Delicateitemsshouldbecleanedinabaskettoreducetheultrasonicintensityandturnthebasketperiodicallyduringthecleaningcycletostopstandingwavecleaninghotspots.Allsinglefrequencyultrasoniccleanerscreatestandingwaveswherethecleaningeffectismostaggressive,betweenthesehotspotstheultrasonicintensitywillreduce.Amoreevencleanisachievedbyusingthe“pulse”function(seepage8)andbyperiodicallymovingtheitembeingcleanedorturningthebasketseveraltimesduringthecleaningcycle.

PLEASENOTE;theuseofabasketwillreducethecleaningeffectiveness,forthisreason,itispreferabletosuspendheavilysoiledrobustitemssotheyareexposedtothefullultrasonicintensity.Itemsmustnotsitonthebaseofthebath.

Alwaysusewarmwater,neverhot/boiling.Ifusinganaqueoussolventyoucanspeeduptheheatingofthefluidbymixingsomepreheatedwaterwiththeroomtemperaturefluidinthebathandfittingthelidwhichalsoreducesevaporation.Donotthermallyshockthebathbyputtingboilingwaterdirectlyintoanemptybath.

Refertofluidmanualforoperatingtemperatures.

Makesurethereisgoodspacearoundyourobjects,itisnotadvisedtooverlapitemsinthetank.Themoreitemsloadedintoanultrasoniccleanerthelongertherequiredcycletimewillbetoeffectivelycleanthemsoitisbettertowashlittleandoften.

Ifyouarecleaningasmallpartinalargeultrasoniccleaneryoucanreducesolutionwastagebyusingonlyasmallamountofcleaningsolutioninavesselcontainingtheitembeingcleanedandfilltherestofthebathwithplaintapwater.

Printheadsshouldbeconsidereddelicate.Itisadvisabletosoaktheprintheadfirsttoloosendriedink,runtheultrasonicincyclesoftwominutesthenflushheadwithwarmwaterandseeifitrunsclear.Longcycletimescancausetheheadtofailorleadtoimpreciseinkdispensing.

Duetothenatureofrubberandcertainsoftmaterials,thecleaningactionisreducedasthecavitationactionisbouncedoffthematerial’ssurface.

Product Operation

Thefollowinginstructionswillensurethesafeandcorrectuseofyourindustrialseriescleaner:

StepOne:EnsuretheUltrasoniccleanerisplacedonalevelsolidsurfaceandwheellocksaresecuredon.EnsuretheUltrasonicGenerator/sarepositionedinaconvenientpositionwheretheircablesdonotcreateatriphazard,awayfromtheriskofwateringress.ItisrecommendedthatthemainssupplyisprotectedviaanRCD(ResidualCurrentDetector).Thiswillprovideadditionalprotectiontotheequipment/operatorshouldtheitembecomewetordamaged.

StepTwo:Addyourchosencleaningsolutiontothebath(cleaningagentsarenotalwaysnecessary)toalevelwhereitwillnotoverflowwhentheitemtobecleanedisadded.Additemtobecleaned.ThebathfluidlevelshouldIdeallybemaintainedtoatleast2/3ofthedepthofthebathtopreventdamagetotheheatingcircuit.

StepThree:Plugthegenerator/sintotheUltrasoniccleanerandconnecttheUltrasonicCleanerheatingcircuittoasuitablyisolatedwallsocket,connecttheGenerator/stosuitableoutletsockets.(Avoidusingextensionleadswhichcouldbeoverloaded),Switchonwalloutlets.AdjusttheUltrasonicCleanerthermostattotherequiredtemperature,AbrightGreenlightwillindicatetheheatingcircuitisoperating,pleasenote:itcantakeapproximately1hourforthetemperaturetoreachoperatingtemperaturefromcold.

StepFour:Digitaldisplaysonthecontrolgenerator/spanelshouldnowshowthelastsettimeorgeneratorfrequencyifnotimehasbeenset.

StepFive:Toincrease/decreasethetargettemperature,turnthedialtoyoudesiredtemperaturewestronglysuggesttouseatemperaturebetweenroomtempand80°C,usingatemperaturehigherthanthiswilldecreasetheeffectivenessofthecleaner.Theheaterisusedtokeepfluidatatemperaturebetweencleaningcycles,theultrasonicprocessalsoactstoheatthefluid.

StepSix:Toincreasetheprocesscleaningcycletimervalue,holdthetimeruparrowbutton.Todecreasetheprocesscleanercycletimervalue,holdthetimerdownarrowbutton.

StepSeven:Usepowerupanddownbuttonstoadjusttheultrasoniccleaningpowertothedesiredlevel.AVisualindicationofthepowerisshownonthebargraphdisplayatthebottomofthedisplaywindow.

StepEight:Oncethetime,temperature,andpowerhavebeensetpresstheon/offbuttontobeginthecycle.Toendthecyclebeforethetimerhascounteddownpresstheon/offbuttonagain.

Additional Cleaning Modes

Different Methods of Cleaning

Pulse Mode:ThePulsefunctioncreatesapulsatingactionbyfluctuatingthetransducerpowertoreducestandingwaves.

Thisfunctionhelpsspreadtheforceofthestandingwavesmakingitsafertocleansensitiveobjects,butwealwayssuggestthatwhencleaninganythingdelicatetodoatestrunassomedamagestillmayoccur.

General Cleaning:Forlightlysoiledobjectsyoumayneedacleaningsolutionatalowconcentrateofcleaningadditiveandforashortcycle,itisbesttostartata2-5minutecycleandincreasestrengthasrequireddependantontheresultsachieved.reducingthegenerator/spowersettingisrecommended,especiallywhencleaningdelicateitems.Wesuggestonlyusingwarmwater.

EnhancedCleaning:Iftheobjectsinquestionneedadeepercleanthenweadvisetheuseofanultrasoniccleaningsolutionmixedatamediumconcentrationandheatedtothemid-rangeofthefluidsoperatingtemperature.

Extensive Cleaning:Heavilysoileditemsshouldbecleanedwithasteamcleanerorjetwashtoremovelargeheavydepositsorcontaminants,failuretodothiswillprematurelycontaminatecleaningsolutionsandincreasethecleaningcycletimerequirements.Fortheremovalofhardoringraineddeposits,werecommendapre-soakingintheultrasonicbathwithdetergent/solventmixedtoitsstrongestrecommendedconcentrationratiotosoftenunwanteddepositswhilstheatedtothehighendofthefluidsoperatingtemperaturerange.Cleaningshouldbecarriedoutatthehighestrecommendedfluidconcentrationandthehighestrecommendedfluidtemperature.

Gloves,overallsandsafetyglassesarerecommendedtoprotecttheoperatorfromhotfluidsanditemswhichmaybeaccessiblewhenloadingandunloadingthebath. Adequateventilationshouldbeprovidedwhenthesolutionbeingusedrecommendsdoingso,facemasksmayalsoberecommendeddependantonthefluidbeingused.

Remote Operation:(Usingtheremoteconnectionontherearoftheunit)

Therearetworunningoptions,

1.Withasetruntimedisplayedonthefrontofthegeneratorinthetopdisplaysection,oncetheremoteconnectorcontactsareclosedthegeneratorwillstarttorunandcountdowntozero,iftheconnectionisbrokenorswitchedopencircuit,thetimedandgeneratoroutputwillstop.Oncetheconnectionidre-madeorswitchcontactsshort-circuitedthetimerwillresumecountingdownandthegeneratorwillcontinuetorun.

Oncethegeneratortimereacheszerothegeneratorwillstopoutputting,byopencircuitingthecontacts/switchthegeneratorwillcontinuecountdownagainforfullpresetcycleperiod.

Thisisasimplewaytoremotelyoperateapresettimecleaningcycle.

2.Withnopresettimesetonthegeneratordisplaytopdisplay(operatingfrequencydisplayed),thegeneratorwillrunforaslongastheremoteconnectorcontactsareshortcircuit.ThiswouldbepracticalwhereaProgrammableLogicControlleristobeusedtocontroltherunningcycleoftheultrasoniccleanergenerator.

Inbothcases,itisimportantthatthedutycycleofthecleanerisobservedapproximately45minutesruntimerequires20minutesresttimetoprolongthelifeofthemachine.

ElectricalSpecifications:Theultrasonicgeneratorconnectstoastandard13ampringmainssocket.Donotuseanextensionleadunlesssuitablyrated,multiplegeneratorsmustnotbeconnectedtoasingleextensionleadasitislikelythatitwillbeoverloaded.

IMPORTANT

Pleasebeawarethatthisunitisfittedwitharesettablethermaloverloadswitchasanadditionalmeasuretopreventheatingelementfailureduetolowfluidlevels.

Intheeventthatthefluidlevelswithinthebathbecomereducedduetounderfilling/evaporationordrainingthereisthepossibilitytheheatingelementcouldoverheat,causingirreparabledamagetotheheatingelementandpotentiallythecleaningtankbath.

Please ensure fluid levels are maintained at 3/4 full when in use.

Asanadditionalfeature,thistankhasaresettablethermalswitchmountedtooneoftheheaterpadsifthetemperatureoftheheaterpadrisestoalevelthatcouldpotentiallycausedamage,thethermalswitchwillresetandpreventtheheatingelementsbeingpoweredfromthecontactor.Thiswillpreventtheelementsfromswitchingbackononcetheheatingelementshavecooleddown.

Resetting the thermal switchBeforeopeningtheunitensurethetankandgeneratorsareisolatedfromthemainssupplyandplugsaredisconnected.

Toresetthetankthermalswitch,thecoverwiththeheatingpowerleadsocketsneedstoberemoved.UnscrewthetwoAllenKeyScrews,releasethepowerleadglandandliftthepanelslightlytoreleasethebottomfromthetwopegs.

Thepanelwillberestrictedbyinternalwiringandwillonlymovetotheside,thethermalswitchisarrowedasbellowandcanberesetbypressingintheplungerthiswillclickoncereset.

Re-fitcoversinreverseorder.
