E veryone loves a bit of sparkle, so this fabulous, flowery net crochet shawl will make the perfect addition

to your Christmas range. We've used a DMC cotton yarn, but any 4ply will work if you add the secret ingredient - a skein of shimmery Holoshimmer thread! just imagine these scarves racked up in a range of colours on your stand. If you don't fancy flowers, tiny butterflies would work well, too. In fact, it's a great pattern for spring or summertime, making it an excellent all-year-round project.

To create the 3dtr tog: Wrap the yarn round the hook twice, insert the hook into the ring, pull a loop through, (wrap the yarn round the hook and pull through the first two loops on the hook) twice*. Repeal from 'to twice (4 loops on hook). Next, wrap the yarn around the hook and pull through all remaining loops on hook.

Note: Use both the yarn and metallic thread together throughout. The body of the shawl is made in a simple net crochet stitch. Start at the long edge of the shawl and decrease every row to form a triangle shawl. First, ch246. Row 1: dc in the 10th ch from hook (65, skip next 3 ch sts, dc in next ch st); repeat to end. Turn. Rows 2-32: ch6 (dc in the next Sch space, ch5); repeat along the row, stopping in the 3rd to last ch space. Work one dc and turn. Cut yarn and pull through loop to secure.

EDGING This is worked around the outside edge of the shawl. Rejoin yarn to the right end of the foundation ch. Ch2, 2tr in first 3ch space, (3tr in next 3ch space); repeat to the end of foundation ch. Then work (dc, 2tr, 3d1r, 21r, dc) in every Sch space-along the shorter edges of the triangle.

Cut yarn and pull through loop to secure. Weave in and cut off any loose ends.

FOR THE SMALLER FLOWER DECORATIONS Make eight, using the same yarn and thread combination used for the shawl. Ch4, sI silo join and form a ring. Work (63, 3dtr tog, ch3, dc) 5 times into the ring. Cut yarn and pull through loop to secure. Sew in a random scatter pattern on the shawl. Weave in and cut off any loose ends.

FOR THE LARGE FLOWER PIN Use the same yarn and thread combination used for the shawl.

First, ch106. Row 1: dc in the 10th ch from hook, (ch5, skip next 3 ch sts, dc in next ch st); repeat to end. Turn. Row 2:jdc, 2tr,3dtr, 2tr, dc) in every Sch

space to the end. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail, and pull through loop to secure. Wind the long petal chain into a spiral. Sew together on the back to secure the design.
