Indigenous builders ready to join workforceA GROUP of indige-

nous men completed aneight week course in build-ing construction last week.

Co-ordinated byJobfind Centre in conjunc-tion with the Kalano Com-munity Association, ninemen received their Certifi-cate II in ConstructionPathways and their WhiteCard, which will allowthem to work on buildingsites.

Brisbane-based AngusKnight Learning trainer,Joe Halsall, said the menbuilt a steel awning overthe Rockhole CommunityNight Patrols donger, aspart of their training andassessment, as well ascomplete academic tests.

These two certificateswill be a big bonus, in try-ing to get work, Mr Hal-sall said.

All they want is for abuilder to come along andoffer some work experi-ence.

Participant Chris Hall,42, said he completed thecourse to get the necessarytickets required for workon construction sites in thebuilding industry.

Greg Maroney, 30, saidhe liked the hands-on ex-perience of working withtools and on scaffolding.

DISRUPTION TO TRAFFICThe Katherine NAIDOC Committee wish to advise of

disruption to traffic on Katherine Terrace to conduct its

annual street march on Friday July 12 2013 commencing

at 10am and running approximately until 10.30am. The

road affected with minimal or no traffic allowable will be

from the car park next to the BP Roadhouse, Katherine

Terrace, through the traffic lights intersection (Giles

Street), Victoria Highway intersection, through to Ryan

Park at the northern end of town.
