Forum for Questions & Discussion

NCDR® is the recognized resource for measuring and quantifying outcomes and identifying gaps in the delivery of quality cardiovascular patient care in the United States. Its mission is to improve the quality of cardiovascular patient care by providing information, knowledge and tools, implementing quality initiatives; and supporting research that improves patient care and outcomes.

Please join your ACC- NCDR® colleagues for this special breakout session to discuss the new CathPCI Registry® V4.3 Update. We can also discuss any of the following:

•Standardizationandimprovementofdatamanagement.

ATTeNTIoN FelloWS-IN-TRAININg! CAll FoR PoSTeRS!

All current Indiana fellows in a cardiology training program are invited to present their research (past or present) during the poster session, scheduled for Saturday, November 7. Eligible posters may present recent data, case study or information that has been presented previously at a local or national meeting. The abstracts will be judged in advance to select the top two abstracts for oral presentation. The rest of the accepted abstracts will be presented as posters and judged at the poster presentation on Saturday, November 7. There are cash prizes for winners!

The winner of the Indiana-ACC poster competition will be invited to participate in a New! Best FIT (Fellows in Training) Poster Awards National Competition at ACC.10 in Atlanta. The ACC.10 registration fee will be waived; although the College is unable to reimburse for travel, hotel and per diem expenses. As a semi-finalist in the national competition, your poster must be displayed for the entire length of the meeting. Experts will judge the posters according to set criterion; prizes will be awarded to the top national winners and announced at the popular ACC.10 and i2 Summit Highlights session on Tuesday, March 16, 2010. As the Indiana-ACC poster winner participating in the ACC.10 Best FIT Poster Awards National Competition, you must withdraw any other duplicate abstract(s) that have been submitted and accepted in either the general ACC/i2 Summit or Young Investigators Awards programs. To learn more, please visit www.inacc.org.

STATeMeNT oF NeeD Cardiovascular disease is the leading health care problem throughout the world. In the United States alone, an estimated 70 million people have been diagnosed with one or more forms of cardiovascular disease (CV), and over 910,000 Americans die from CV disease each year. The cardiac care team is increasingly asked to develop systems of care, the methods for which are not necessarily part of the traditional medical training. We are asked to do this better, faster, more efficiently and at a lower cost.

oVeRAll goAlFocusing on achieving optimal patient outcomes and the performance of the healthcare provider, this program will increase knowledge about imaging, systems of care, cardiovascular screening of athletes, health care reform, and data collection.

leARNeR oBJeCTIVeSUpon completion of this program, participants should be able to:

■ Discuss appropriate use criteria for imaging.

■ Participate in the treatment of STEMI as a receiving or transfer hospital.

■ Recognize importance of the transition of the CHF patient from hospital to home.

■ Efficiently screen athletes prior to participation in sports and understand some special populations such as divers.

■ Increase efficiency in practice as defined by quality/cost.

■ Identify the ways that NCDR® data collection impacts cardiology practices and quality of care.
