description

A hugely interesting outcome of the Independence Referendum has been the growth in interest in questions that previously only attracted political geeks of the wide staring eyed variety. The rise in political interest has allowed us to reimagine what kind of country should Scotland be, and how closely should it be adapted to its context, and a conscious seeking of models that might serve as inspiration to what Scotland could be, regardless of the referendum outcome.

DEADLY WarningI don’t live in Scotland. I don’t have a vote in the

referendum. !

I am using the referendum as a way in to talk about change in organisations.

!I am not - not - advocating voting either way.

It’s for Scotland to decide.

Subsidiarity!!

at the lowest possible

level.

Systems Thinking!!

Left to themselves, components become selfish, competitive. We cannot afford the

destructive effect. A system must be

managed. !

1.Power originates from and resides in the team.

2.Consciously choose what power to share with a higher level system.

3.Do not make it a static choice.

Incumbent power structures own the means of communication and interpretation of events. !So they can spin events any way they way. Preaching to nobody, or to the choir can be spun as being out and engaging in debate with the nation.

Nationalists themselves no longer pretend that the Yes campaign is

their property.

People, especially Labour people, insist

noisily that their choice of independence has

nothing to do with nationalism. This is

fundamental. Ian Bell,
