    UK Disability History Month

UK Disability History Month is an annual event on the history ofdisabled peoples struggle for equality and human rights; andcelebrates our achievements. It runs from 22nd November to22nd December every year.

Now is an excellent time to start thinking about how to mark UKDisability History Month this year and begin to plan yourevents. The theme for 2013 will be

Celebrating our Struggle for Independent Living: NoReturn to Institutions.

This is in response to the current welfare reforms and the

dangers of returning to disabled people being shut away. Thetheme also gives a great opportunity to look at the history ofpeople with mental health problems and learning difficulties.
