Safe Places Sharing Events Safe Places is a scheme to provide safe places in the community where people with learning disabilities can go if they get into trouble or feel unsafe, frightened or bullied. We know that there is a lot of good work going on in the North East and Yorkshire and Humber and we will be having two events where people can share what is happening in their area.

We have asked some people to tell us about their Safe

Places schemes and what has made it a success.

European Union (EU) Referendum On Thursday the 23

rd June British people can vote in the

European Union (EU) Referendum. British people will be voting on the question – should the UK leave or stay in the European Union (EU)?

This is a big question. There is lots of information being talked about from the different sides. It can be confusing!

Different organisations have made information to support people to understand about what the European Union (EU) is, what the Vote Leave and Vote Remain campaigns are saying and how we can vote.

We have done a short paper that has links to the different papers or information made by other groups. Our short paper can be seen here

Transforming Care in the Regions The National Forum of People with Learning Disabilities and the National Valuing Families Forum have been working together to find out how transforming care is working for people and their families across the country. They have been funded to do this work regionally by the Local Government Association. They will be producing four reports for the Transforming Care Assurance Board, which is co-chaired by Scott Watkin, self-advocate, and Alistair Burt, Minister for Care. The Board check the work that is happening around transforming care. You can find their first easy read summary and full report here: http://bit.ly/1Umk48m

Humber NHS Trust – My Health Guide App

Humber NHS trust is the first NHS trust to trial the my health guide app. Two hundred people with learning disabilities are taking part and the app is aimed to improve their quality of life. The my health guide allows people to capture videos, record voice messages and show photographs of their lives and the people important to them alongside important information about their healthcare. This will allow people to communicate with their care teams in a better way. Trish Bailey clinical care director at Humber NHS trust said “We want to do away with file after file after file and when people go to visit families the information they need is right there”

The app is funded by NHS England and SBRI Healthcare and developed by UK software firm Maldaba and allows people to communicate better with their carers. Carers can add important information such as changes in medication. This will mean that all the information is available at the touch of a screen instead of looking through lots of papers.

Research project - expressions of interest Stay up Late are going to launch a research project with a

University looking at different models of residential support

and how these models help people with learning

disabilities live the way they want to live.

The project will look at what works and doesn’t work so

will be looking for support providers to take part.

The project is not going to happen straight away but if you

are interested in taking part a short survey is available

here.
