Canara Engineering College, Benjanapadavu,
hosted its 14th Gradua�on Day at T.V. Ramana Pai
Conven�on Centre, Mangaluru on 16th June, 2018.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest, Mr. Divyanshu
Verma, Head – R and D, Intel, stressed the fresh
graduates to develop technology to beat machines and
not the human mind. The foray of voice control
machines like alexa and the like, have put the existence
of humans to ques�on and young engineers should
focus on developing technology that tears through the
'intelligence'' of machines. At �mes when technology is
showing destruc�ve traits, Mr. Verma urged the
graduates to retain a strong emo�onal and intellectual
bond with their alma mater. He guided the graduates to
travel and explore the various states of our country,
understand the problems people have and equip
themselves to respond to societal problems before
foraying into the technological world. Mr. S.S. Kamath,
President, CHSA, presided over the func�on. Mr. M.
Padmanabha Pai, Correspondent, CEC, delivered the
oath to the graduates and in his address lauded the
college for offering 504 engineers to the benefit of the
society. Educa�on he said, should aim at rec�tude. He
called upon the graduates to accept life as a challenge,
a dream, a sacrifice and nurture it with undaunted
discipline. Hononary secretary, CHSA, Mr. Ranganath
Bhat advocated graduates to accept all challenges in life
with confidence. Principal, Dr. Ganesh V. Bhat,
welcomed the gathering. Ms. Ashwini V.R. introduced
the Chief Guests to the gathering. Graduates from each
branch took the audience through a short journey of
their 4 years at CEC. Members of CHSA adorned the
dais. Mr. Anirudh Kamath proposed the vote of thanks.

v Orientation Programme
Orienta�on Day for the freshers of
2018 was held at T. V. Raman Pai Conven�on Centre,
Mangaluru on Sunday 5th August, 2018. Speaking on
the occasion, Mr. Ranganath Bhat, Honorable
Secretary, CHSA said that with the development in the
economic status of our country, there has been a
manifold increase in jobs in the technological sector.
We have to be op�mis�c even in trying �mes and find
new avenues in the opportuni�es that come our way.
Learning should not be limited to the syllabus, instead
students should exper�se in co-curricular and extra-
curricular ac�vi�es pertaining to their studies as well
and a�ain perfec�on in their curriculum. Canara
Engineering College has since its incep�on, not just
imparted quality technical educa�on but given
preference to teaching students to excel in life as well.
Mr. Annappa Pai, Vice President, CHSA urged students
to value the sacrifice of their parents and honour them
by being an efficient and commi�ed achiever in their
professional life. Giving a brief introduc�on of the
Principal, HODs and other significant heads of the
college, Mr. M. Padmanabha Pai, Correspondent, CEC
called upon students to hone their communica�on
skills, since good communica�on is a must for students
to grab good job opportuni�es. Dr. Ganesh V. Bhat,
Principal, CEC welcomed the august gathering. Dr. N.
Damodara, HOD-Chemistry presented the vote of
thanks. Dr. Priya V. Frank, Student Welfare Officer and
Dr. N. Venkatesh, Faculty – Mechanical, briefed
students and parents on academics, rules and
regula�ons, college and hostel facili�es, etc. Ms.
Akshata Bhat, Faculty –EEE was the host for the day.
v Freshers day Freshers day for the first year students was
held at auditorium on Thursday 23rd August 2018 from
2 - 5pm. Prof. Akshatha Bhat ,EEE Department , cultural
coordinator welcomed the gathering. All branches
senior students entertained the first year by
performing dance, singing and also by conduc�ng
games. Ms. Preema( 7th sem EC) and Ms. Neha ( 3rd
sem IS) were the host for the cultural programme. Mr &
Ms fresher 2k18 was conducted by Mr. Pavan She�y(
7th sem EE) and Ms. Likitha (7th sem CS). Dr. N Satheesh
Kumar and Prof. Akshatha Bhat were the judges for the
event. Ms. Apeksha Upadhyay(CS-A) and Mr. Bharat
Kamath (EC-A) were the winners of Ms and Mr Fresher
2k18. Dr. N Satheesh Kumar, cultural commi�ee
chairperson proposed the vote of thanks. Snacks were
distributed to the first year students and par�cipants of
cultural programme. The whole programme was
organised and conducted by Prof. Akshatha Bhat- EEE
dept and Prof Dhananjaya B - CS dept.
v Ayudha Pooja Ayudha pooja was held at CEC on17th
October,2018.The Procession started with chende,
Nasik band and pili gobbu. The main pooja was
performed and prasad was distributed a�er that.
v Rashtriya Ektha Divas Celebration Rashtriya Ektha Divas was organised by Cultural Committee in our Campus on 17th October 2018
Wednesday at Ground and open auditorium. Dandiya
and Garbha was performed by students and staff from
9.00am to 10.15am coordinated by Mr. Anantha
Krishna Kamath (Asst. Professor, EEE), Mr. Pavan V
She�y (Final year, EEE). Cultural Performances were
given by students on the theme "Dussehra" from
10.15am to 11.30 am.The programme was coordinated
by Ms. Akshatha Bhat (Asst. Professor, EEE),
Mr.Sourabha Hegde (Third year, CS). 300 students
performed in the event.
v Kannada Rajyotsava 2018
Kannada Rajyotsava 2018 was held in our college in associa�on with NSS And Kannada Vibhaga on 19 November 2018. Chief guest Mr. Ashok Bhat, Ujire, Yakshagana kalavida emphasized on kannada culture and how to save our language.
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES IN THE COLLEGE
Ø Canara Engineering College hosted Vanamahotsava thon 7 August 2018 and on account of the same,
Arts/Cultural/Literary Commi�ee had organized a
cultural programme which included a "Nadageete" as
prayer song, a "Parisarageete" and the cultural
programme concluded with Na�onal Anthem.
Mr.Rajesh Naik Ulipady,Member of Parliament was the
Chief guest for the programme.
ØSadhbavana Divas
Sadhbavana Divas was organised by NSS on th
20 August 2018. Sadhbavana Divas was celebrated
in view of birth anniversary of Late Raajiv Gandhi, Ex
Prime Minister of India. The mo�o behind the program
is to have equality among people.
ØInauguration of SAE collegiate club SAE INDIA, CEC COLLEGIATE CLUB for the
academic year 2018-19 was inaugurated on 27-8-2018.
Mr. Anoop B S, PABS Consultant, Bangalore was the
Chief Guest of func�on and in his address to the
students, explained the opportuni�es for students
regarding various events/compe��ons related to SAE
INDIA. Another Guest Mr. Rakesh D R, SAE India
Bengaluru Sec�on explained the students about the
benefits of joining SAE India. Dr. Ganesh V Bhat,
Principal and Dr. B. Krishna Prabhu, Head of
Department presided over the func�on, and addressed
the students. Dr. Rajalakshmi Samaga B L, Head of
Department E&C, Mr. Mohan Rao, Head of Department
E&E were the special invites.
Ø E'voke
A workshop was organised by IEEE Student Branch
CEC on basics of electronics , E'voke was conducted by st
the IEEE CAN SB in CEC on 1 September 2018. The first
years were trained about certain electronic
components and their uses in daily life.This workshop
consisted of 2 sessions: Morning session included : how
to solder, how to use mul�meter, voltage current, RLC
circuit, simula�on so�ware-proteus. A�ernoon session
covered topics like diode and its working, transistor and
its working, relay circuits. The students were taught the
theory and prac�cal applica�ons as well and were
encouraged to experiment with them as well. This
workshop ended with a test with the best team winning
a prize, which was won by Pawan,Padmanabh and
Ni�sh of first year EC.
vNSS Visit to Govt Aided Higher
Primary School Ammunje
The event was organised by NSS And Specs Dept CSE on nd22 September 2018. Event was organized to provide 1.
computer training to government school students and
teachers. 2. Science experiments hands on session for
5th, 6th and 7th Standard students. 84 students of 5th,
6th and 7th standard were trained. Ac�vi�es for 1st to
4th Standard like singing, dancing, Games were
conducted for 22 students. Along with basics of
computer , students are also trained on some science
experiments
v RASHTRIYA SHIKSHANA
DINAACHARANE
“Raashtriya Shikshana Dina” was celebrated on th13 November 2018 in our campus in associa�on with
Na�onal Service Scheme (NSS). Mr. Ganesh Kamath,
kannada professor and administra�ve officer of CEC
was the resource person. On this occasion a talk on the
importance of the basic educa�on was given. Students
were asked to take a pledge on the day to see that every
child in the society gets basic educa�on. Students were
informed to give social service in this regard. More than
100 students par�cipated in the event. On this occasion
an essay compe��on was held on the topic
“Prastuta Jeevana Shailiyalli para bhasha moha
aarambhavaagu�ddare, kannada bhasha prema
kalegundida abharanadanthe edeye”. 17 students
par�cipated in the compe��on.
Ø Free Eye check up camp
THThe camp was organized by NSS ON 19 November
2018 in view of founders day. A team from Prasad
Netralaya with specialized eye doctors were part of
the program.

Die�cian Aruna Mallya is a Senior Die�cian at
Manipal Health Enterprises Pvt. Ltd, KMC Hospitals,
Mangaluru. With 1st rank in Bachelors of Science,
Family and community Science (FCS) and Botany, from
Sri. Avinashilingam Ins�tute of Homescience and
Higher Educa�on for Women, Coimbatore she also has
done PG Diploma in Diete�cs and Applied Nutri�on
from Himalayan University. She has been associated
with Manipal Hospitals since June 2010 �ll date and has
previously worked as Weight Management Consultant
with VLCC, Die�cian at Talwalkar's Mangalore,
Consultant Nutri�onist at Rx Life, Resident Die�cian at
A J Heart Hospital, Mangalore and Consul�ng Professor
at Mo� Mahal College of Hotel Management. She has
also served as Child Development Instructor for
Karnataka State Council for Child Welfare, Madikeri.
She has also been invited as guest speaker at various
events, has wri�en several ar�cles and air programs on
radio.Die�cian Aruna Mallya addressed the 1st year
students on the effects of junk food and standards of
healthy ea�ng from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM. She also
addressed the Faculty and staff on the same topic from

COMPETITION :In the a�ernoon of the same day, a
Poster making compe��on was conducted for the
students from 3:00 PM onwards. 12 students
registered for the compe��on .3 best posters were
awarded prizes. COOKING HEALTHY FOOD WITHOUT
FIRE :A compe��on to cook healthy food without fire
was also planned for the a�ernoon. 38 teams registered
for the event. 3 best teams were awarded prizes
Ø A Sanitary Pad Vending Machine and Incinerator
has been procured and installed in the Ladies
Washroom opposite Computer Lab on the ground floor.
The inaugura�on of the machine was done in the
presence of HOD - ECE, Dr. Rajalakshmi Samaga,
Student Welfare Officer - Dr. Priya V. Frank, Girl Class
Representa�ves from all classes and a few other girl
students on 29th September, 2018. This first of its kind
ini�a�ve in CEC is hoped to be beneficial to both
students and faculty.

Programs, Business Intelligence and Analy�cs
transforma�on engagements. He has also worked with
Adobe and TCS as well and across US, UK, Europe and
APAC regions.
Mr. Pawar addressed the Pre-final year students
(CSE, ISE & ECE) on the trending Placement needs in
the IT industry and �pped students on how to prepare
for Placement ac�vi�es and crack job interviews.
v Talk on trafc rules, road safety and drug menace
A talk was organised on trafc rules, road safety thand drug menace by bantwal rural police on 26
October2018. Police personnel from Bantwal Rural Police Station addressed students of the college on Laws of the land. ASP Mr. Rishikesh Sonavane addressed students regarding the following: Responsibility as an adult and various laws that a person can be held under. It is impossible for any person who is charged in a Police case to get a Passport or even get a commendable job. Use common sense in any situation while citing a recent case NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act of 1985. Cautioned students that a single incident may lead to several laws being slapped on the person for various offences committed. PSI Mr. Prasanna spoke regarding: CrPC –Criminal Procedure Code and that information of any crime committed is available all over India. Mental stimulants and depressants taken remain in the nervous system for a long time. People should help by informing the police of any drug peddling activities. Identity of informer will be kept condential. KSP App can be installed in mobiles. GPS will get switched on automatically. The app helps police to locate site of incident. Message will be sent to the nearest police station. Live videos of the scene can also be uploaded on the app. Approximately 300 students attended the talk.
v Inauguration of Spectrum and A Technical Talk By Sri Girish Bharadwaj
First year engineering students associa�on th"Spectrum" was inaugurated on 12 December
2018. The event was organised by department of basic science and engineering .Sri B Girish Bharadwaj, a Padmashree Awardee,popularly known as Bridge Man of India,a Mechanical Engineer and an Industrialist was the Chief Guest for the programme. Sri Girish Bharadwaj gave technical talk on "Suspension Bridges-Connec�ng Rural India". Right a�er the talk a number of compe��ons were conducted for the first year students. To name
them 1. Science Quiz 2. Poster Presenta�on 3. Essay wri�ng 4. Mini Project Compe��on. All first years ac�vely par�cipated in all the above compe��ons and made the event a grand success.
