Morris, Incarnate Word’s first-year coach, spent the previous five sea- sons as offensive coordinator for Texas Tech. He will no doubt run the “Air Raid” offense. That offense aver- aged over 30 points per game during Morris’ tenure at Tech and set the single-season school record with 45.1 points per game in 2015. He has yet to announce his starting quarterback for today’s game. UNM coach Bob Davie said the Lobos have been preparing for 6-foot-2 junior Sean Brophy, who led the Cardinals last year with 1,277 yards passing and 11 touchdown passes, completing 135 of his 240 passes with 11 interceptions. Cole Brownholtz, a junior transfer from Hawaii, is a dynamic player who will most likely be used in short-yardage situations. Phillip Baptiste returns as the Cardinals’ top receiver. He compiled 623 yards on 31 catches with three touchdowns. This is Incarnate Word’s 10th season of intercollegiate football. >>> Morris, 32, who played football at Texas Tech, is an offensive-minded coach, having learned from Kliff Kings- bury at Tech. He also gained experience at Houston, where he was a graduate assistant under head coach Kevin Sumlin, and at Washington State. >>> The Lobos had to seek NCAA Divi- sion II contacts to find out more about Incarnate Word defensive coordinator Deason. He spent the past four seasons as defensive coordinator at Texas A&M Commerce, helping the Lions to the Divi- sion II national championship. >>> Coach Bob Davie chose Tevaka Tui- oti as his starting quarterback because he believes he will take care of the ball. Last year, turnovers were a big problem for the Lobos, who had 29 of them in 12 games, an average of 2.42 turnovers per game. The turnover total was the highest for UNM since the 1991 season when UNM had 40. In 2016, it was the third time under Davie that the Lobos commit- ted just 14 turnovers. >>> Walk-on Albuquerque native Andrew Shelley (Eldorado High School) won the field-goal kicking duties as he shot up the depth chart in August. Shelley is taking over for Jason Sanders, who was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round. Shel- ley will be the third kicker in the last four years under Davie to hail from the metro area, joining Justus Adams (2013, Albu- querque) and Zack Rogers (2014-15, Rio Rancho). LOBO NOTES SCOUTING THE LOBOS UNM coach Bob Davie says his triple-option offense will be tweaked with the addition of first-year offen- sive coordinator Calvin Magee on staff. But many believe the Lobos will open up the offense with more run-pass-option plays derived from the spread that Magee learned from Rich Rodriguez at West Virginia, Michigan and Arizona. Davie tabbed redshirt sopho- more Tevaka Tuioti as his starter. Tuioti is a playmaker who saw action in eight games with one start last season. While the offense has brought excitement to the Lobos, it is their defense that has the most stability and is capable of making a difference in today’s game. Senior middle linebacker Alex Hart, a team captain for the second straight year, leads the way. UNM also has a strong defensive backfield with senior cornerbacks Jalin Burrell and D’Angelo Ross, senior free safety Bijon Parker and senior nickelback Michael Sewell Jr. provid- ing experience. Let the Eric Morris Era begin. Morris, Incarnate Word’s first-year coach, spent the previous five sea-sons as offensive coordinator for Texas Tech. He will no doubt run the “Air Raid” offense. That offense aver-aged over 30 points per game during Morris’ tenure at Tech and set the single-season school record with 45.1 points per game in 2015.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS

CARDINAL NOTES>>> UIW, a Football Championship Sub-

division (FCS) program that went 1-10 last year, will play against against two Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponents this season, including UNM. This is Incarnate Word’s 10th season of intercollegiate football.

>>> Morris, 32, who played football at Texas Tech, is an offensive-minded coach, having learned from Kliff Kings-bury at Tech. He also gained experience at Houston, where he was a graduate assistant under head coach Kevin Sumlin, and at Washington State.

>>> The Lobos had to seek NCAA Divi-sion II contacts to find out more about Incarnate Word defensive coordinator Deason. He spent the past four seasons as defensive coordinator at Texas A&M Commerce, helping the Lions to the Divi-sion II national championship.

>>> Coach Bob Davie chose Tevaka Tui-oti as his starting quarterback because he believes he will take care of the ball. Last year, turnovers were a big problem for the Lobos, who had 29 of them in 12 games, an average of 2.42 turnovers per game. The turnover total was the highest for UNM since the 1991 season when UNM had 40. In 2016, it was the third time under Davie that the Lobos commit-ted just 14 turnovers.

>>> Walk-on Albuquerque native Andrew Shelley (Eldorado High School) won the field-goal kicking duties as he shot up the depth chart in August. Shelley is taking over for Jason Sanders, who was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round. Shel-ley will be the third kicker in the last four years under Davie to hail from the metro area, joining Justus Adams (2013, Albu-querque) and Zack Rogers (2014-15, Rio Rancho).

LOBO NOTES

SCOUTING THE LOBOS

UNM coach Bob Davie says his triple-option offense will be tweaked with the addition of first-year offen-sive coordinator Calvin Magee on staff. But many believe the Lobos will open up the offense with more run-pass-option plays derived from the spread that Magee learned from Rich Rodriguez at West Virginia, Michigan and Arizona. Davie tabbed redshirt sopho-more Tevaka Tuioti as his starter. UNM also has a strong defensive backfield with senior cornerbacks Jalin Burrell and D’Angelo Ross, senior free safety Bijon Parker and senior nickelback Michael Sewell Jr. provid-ing experience.
