Term 4 Week 2 23 October 2019 Message from the Principal
Welcome Back
I would like to welcome back all families, including those that have recently joined our school
community. We have moved quickly into what will be an exciting final term for the year with a number of
fantastic events planned across the school and I look forward to outstanding achievements in many
areas for our students and school.
World Teachers Day
World Teachers' Day is celebrated in NSW this Friday October 25! I’m sure that you will join me in
acknowledging our fabulous teachers for their dedication in preparing the students of SSPS as
successful and happy future citizens. Our school is very fortunate to have a team of passionate, skilled
and committed teachers and I encourage you to pass on your feedback to members of the team this
week!
Kindergarten Orientation
Today the school hosted the first of three Kindergarten Orientation sessions. The Early Stage 1 and
support teams led by Assistant Principal, Ms Lennon provided an introductory classroom experience for

to welcome siblings of current students as well as many new students and families into the Sans
Souci Public School Community. Thank you to our current Kindergarten students and families who
provided morning tea for the parents and to the canteen managers and volunteers who gave their
time this morning. We look forward to the second session next Wednesday at 9:30am.
RSL Sub Branch Donation to Library
Last week Ramsgate RSL Sub Branch committee members,
John McKenzie and John Rundle presented Mrs Holmes with
$500 of book vouchers in appreciation for the school’s support
of Anzac commemorations this year. Mr McKenzie also
presented the school with a copy of the local Anzac March that
took place in 2019. I would like to thank the Ramsgate RSL
Sub Branch on behalf of the school community for its ongoing
support.

Sports Assembly
On the last Friday of Term 3 the school hosted a sports assembly to acknowledge achievement
across a number of individual PSSA sports and carnivals, including representative achievements.
The large number of students receiving awards was a reflection of the amazing achievements and
high degree of participation at SSPS. I would like to acknowledge the commitment of our teachers
who take on a number of coaching and administration roles that support such a strong sport program
at the school. Special thanks to Mr Hoff who coordinated the presentation.
Year 6 Trip to Bathurst
On Monday October 28 the students and teachers from Year 6 will head over the Great Dividing
Range for the annual overnight camp. This trip involves visits to Jenolan Caves and historic Hill End
for a goldmining experience to consolidate learning about the Gold rush Era. I would like to
acknowledge the commitment of staff members, Mr Knight, Mr Hoff, Ms Vournazos, Mr Dennett and
Mrs Orr who will take time away from their own families to enable this valuable opportunity for our
Year 6 students.
New Playground Equipment
Students in Year 1 and 2 have enjoyed playing
on the newly installed G-Pod in their
playground. The new G-Pod takes four children
at a time for an exciting spin, powered by the
children. Installed under the shade sail the G-
Pod has students lining up for a spin each day!
There will be some further improvements to the
area over the coming term prior to our P&C
Carols Night.

District Public Speaking Final
Tomorrow three of our students will represent SSPS at the Kogarah Network Public Speaking Finals
to be held at Connells Point PS. We wish Felicia D (Stage 3), Neev P (Stage 2) and Serena H (Stage
1) all the best as they compete against finalists from other schools in the Kogarah Network of
Schools.
Parent/Carer requests for 2020 Class Placement
The school is now moving into the planning process for 2020 classes. Extraordinary class placement
requests for your child in 2020 must be in writing or emailed (addressed to the Principal) and
submitted to the school office by Friday 1 November 2019. Please do not request specific teachers
for your child as it is not always possible for the school to action this, nor is it appropriate to ask your
child’s current class teacher to pass on a request for 2020 placement. Previous years’ requests for
class placement that are still relevant must also be included for consideration in 2020 classes.

Film by The Sea premiers at V-Max
Tonight I will have the pleasure of attending the premier of this year’s short film ‘Through Different
Eyes’ which will featured at the Film by the Sea Festival at Miranda V-Max cinema. Many students
from various years starred in the film that conveys the positive messages of the White Ribbon
‘Breaking the Silence’ schools program. Students and families attending will watch a number of
fantastic short films produced by schools across the Ultimo network. Thanks to Ms Graham and Mr
Thornton for coordinating the entire experience. A link to the film will be posted on the school website
shortly.
Athletes at the Sydney East Athletics Carnival
Last week the school had a number of students competing at the Sydney East Athletics carnival at
the Homebush Olympic Centre. All students performed brilliantly on the day and special
congratulations to Paige B who progresses through to the NSW Athletics Carnival in November.
Mobile Devices at School
I am aware that some students bring a mobile phone to school for the purpose of staying in touch
with family members when travelling to and from school by foot, bus or other forms of transport. In
this case these students must hand their mobile phone in to the school office on arrival to school and
collect it after 3:15pm.
In the case of Year 5 and 6 students, iPads brought for the purpose of BYOD use in learning are to
be locked securely in the student’s locker on arrival at school, between 8:45-9:15am. Mobile phones
brought to school by Year 5 and 6 students should also be locked in the student’s locker at the same
time as the iPad and not accessed until after 3:15pm.
Watches equipped with cameras or with Bluetooth capability should not be worn to school. If you
would like to discuss this further please contact Mr Jennings via the school office.
Carols Night
The school and P&C will host a community Carols Night on the evening of Wednesday December 4.
Students from Kindergarten to Year 5 will lead Christmas Carols and the band and recorder group
will also perform at the event. There will be more details sent home later this term but mark the date
in your calendar!
SSPS Students Past and Present Photo
If you are a past student of SSPS and your child currently attends our school, join us in taking a
historical photograph in front of the original Primary school building to celebrate its 100th birthday.
Come along with your child/children and fellow students and participate in this special event.

2020 school travel applications now open
Applications for student travel in 2020 opened on Friday, 11 October 2019. Students progressing to
year 3 and year 7 no longer need to re-apply if they:
· are continuing at the same school
· are residing at the same address
· have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.
Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their
entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification via email.
Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will
receive a notification advising them to re-apply.
Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.
If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to
https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails
Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2019 to ensure student entitlements are
updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31
December 2019, the system will automatically cancel an entitlement/card and a new one will need to
be issued.
Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will
receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2020.
