““22009 is set by the General Conference to be the year of evangelism. We have been encouraged

by the Southern Asia-Pacific Division president, Pr

Gulfan, to conduct revival meetings in the last

quarter this year so that the evangelistic meetings

will go into full force right in the beginning of next

year.

The traditional evangelistic series are not able to

draw the crowd as compared with 50 years ago

due to the changes in the society. In the past,

there were no TV, internet and other

entertainment to occupy time. Moreover, all

those exciting programmes make people’s hearts

benumb, and it is difficult for the gospel to reach

their hearts and grow spiritually. However, people

still need to fill up that same emptiness in their

hearts.

Though with all the challenges before us, we can still use the people’s felt needs,

which are the health and family programmes, to reach their hearts. Therefore, we

should utilize these programmes to establish good relationships with the

communities so that eventually we can share the good news of salvation with

them. By then, they are more ready to accept the truth. This idea is easier said

than done. Only through the commitment from both the Church members

together with the gospel workers can make this idea materialize.

In June this year, I visited the Adventist Church in central Taiwan, and listened to

Pr Norman Tu talked about how he turned a small and unknown Church into a

well known Church in that city. Under his leadership, the Church door opens 7

days a week. Everyday, there are different groups of volunteers conducting

programmes for the children, youths, adults and senior citizens. They really

transformed the Church into a community health and education centre! This

accomplishment is not by chance. They have put in a lot of effort. People always

say, “We reap what we sowed”. This saying is true for the spiritual realm as well.

I hope and pray that all our Church members, together with all our pastors will

plan for the outreach programmes for 2009 before 2008 comes to an end. As

Paul said, “I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who

shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the

word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all

longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure

sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers,

having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be

turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of

an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.” (2 Tim. 4:1-5).

TThe Klang Valley Health Expo

2008 was the first

event organized

by the Seventh-

day Adventist

Church in

Malaysia in

order to expose

to the general

public the

Adventists’

lifestyle. This was

held on Jul 6-7

at an up-market

shopping mall

called Sunway

Pyramid.

The opening ceremony held on Jul 6 at 12 noon was

officiated by YB Teresa Kok, Selangor Senior Executive

Councilor and State Assemblywoman for Kinrara.

Each participant enjoyed a series of Health Screening

such as BMI, body fat analysis, blood pressure,

glucose and cholesterol test (optional) where all data

was generated by a computer and was presented to

the doctors and nurses who did the health

counseling.

The Health Expo emphasized on the 8 treasures of

healthy living such as: NUTRITION, EXERCISE, WATER,

SUNLIGHT, TEMPERANCE, AIR, REST, and TRUST in Divine

power, also known as NEWSTART. Live demonstrations

on vegan cooking, hydrotherapy and exercise, as

well as exhibitions on the effects of smoking and

alcohol were on display.

A 3-minute step test was also made available to

those participants who wanted to know their fitness

level. Lastly, people enjoyed a time to relax with the

anti-stress chair massage team!

The result of the one-and-a-half day Klang Valley

Health Expo was beyond expectations:

Total participants: 573

On-line Health Study Enrollees: 190

VOP Enrollees: 77

New ACC Registrants: 81

A follow-up programme is planned for them by each

respective Church within the Klang Valley area.

WWhoever said that exercise was only for young people

was proven wrong at the Charobix training for northern

Churches held at the Penang Church compound! A

group of 30 people from all ages from the different

northern Churches of PEM gathered on Jul 20 to learn

how to do the Community Health Aerobics, also known

as Charobix.

The exercise programme kicked off with a short

devotion reminding the participants that CHAROBIX

can be used as a tool to reach out to more people for

the kingdom of God. It was followed by a

demonstration of five easy-to-do flexibility exercises and

finally, learning the steps of each of the 4 sets of the

Charobix which are: Marching Variations, Marching

with Arm Movements, Coordinated Movements and

Challenging Combinations.

The most anticipated moment of the training finally

came when the group was divided into 3 sub-groups

with a leader of their own, they demonstrated their

mastery of the Charobix steps and the best group was

rewarded for their great effort and team work.

In the end, it was reminded to them that their

enthusiasm shown should continue and be used to start

an activity in their Churches or in the surrounding areas.

Praises be given to God!

OOn May 17, the Penang Adventist Hospital Church (PAHC) held a ‘Parents Day’ programme to show

our appreciation for our parents and foster parents.

There were 31 family members involved.

The programme started from 9:00am to 10:45am.

From 9:00am to 10:00am, Ms Mela and Ms Daphney

shared about ‘Parents’, and from 10:00am to

10:45am, the children and foster children gave

roses to the parents to show appreciation for their

love and care. Slide show was also shown. We

ended the programme with a potluck. Thanks to

God for having a wonderful family in PAHC.

On behalf of the Children Ministry Department, I

would like to express my gratitude to our Father

loving God who made this simple and short

programme a success. Thanks to Mrs Jeffnie who

guided me in this programme, missionary Ronald,

who spent his time to do the wonderful slide show,

and Mr Andy Nikan for being in charge of the

potluck. Also, thanks all of my friends who helped.

As I go through life as a daughter in the family, I

realized how patient my parents have been. When

we disobey our parents, we can see the sadness in

them; however, sometimes I felt that my parents did

not understand my feelings. But I knew the

spankings and advice they gave me were for my

own good.

Mrs Ellen G White commented in the book, Mind,

Character and Personality vol 1, pg 170-171, “The

happiness of every child may be secured by strong,

even discipline. A child’s truest hear the words of

direction, in willing feet and hands to walk and work

in the path of duty. And a child’s true goodness will

bring its own reward, even in this life. The early

years are the time for the training process, not only

that the child may become most serviceable and

full of grace and truth in this life, but that he may

secure the place prepared in the home above for

all who are true and obedient.”

“Do not treat your children only with sternness,

forgetting your own childhood and forgetting that they

are but children. Do not expect them to be perfect or

try to make them men and women in their acts at

once. By so doing you will close the door of access

which you might otherwise have to them and will drive

them to open a door for injurious influences, for others

to poison their young minds before you awake to their

danger. IT 387 (1863).

In conclusion, I would like to thank my parents and

foster parents who have guided me till what I have

become now. Without their inspirations in our lives, we

are nothing.

With the help of Pr Abel Bana, Mrs Leong Fai, Mrs Daniel Kok

and Mrs Timon Tan, a Vacation Bible School for 35 children

was conducted at the Johore Baru Church from Aug 22 to 23.

It was also the Church’s 52nd Anniversary, and Pr George

Paramesvaran is a newly baptized Church member. He

were surprised with our united efforts in helping each

other whenever we are in need!

MOTHER'S DAY CELEBRATION

AT KLANG INDIAN

CHURCH SHARED BY MRS SHANTHI

JONATHAN: On the afternoon of

May 17, the youth organized a

Mother’s Day programme to

honour the mothers. Personally, I

think everyday is Mother's Day.

The father is the head of the

family but the MOTHER is

the HEART of the family. The

children shared their testimonies

regarding their lovely mothers.

They celebrated with cake

cutting and gifts were presented

to the mothers. May the Lord

protect; guide and bless all our

parents in PEM.

PARENTS DAY SHARED BY MR ARASU: The Klang Indian Church organized a

meaningful programme to honour all the parents on May 17. We thank

the Lord for the wonderful parents.

Please share the Truth with your friends and relatives. Please contact your Church Pastor or the Media Ministry

Department of PEM at (03) 7984 7795 for your DVD orders today!

WWhile their neighbours rake leaves

this fall, George and Tena Baehm

will comb some 60 miles of local

roadway, collecting cans, bottles

and other recyclables. The

Seventh-day Adventist couple

decided to do something about

the litter turning roadsides in

Northern California's Grass Valley--

an area long known for its pristine wilderness--into veritable landfills.

What began as the Baehm's

decision to clean up their front

yard has grown into a full-time

recycling ministry. George and

Tena collect trash eight hours per

day, then donate the recycling

funds to Maranatha Volunteers

International, an international,

volunteer-based, not-for-profit

Christian ministry that has, over

three decades, constructed

churches, schools, and

orphanages in more than 61 countries.

Though retired, the couple has

never been the sort to sit around.

Active supporters of Maranatha

church building projects since the

mid-1990s, they've sponsored and

helped build churches everywhere

from Peru to Nepal. Their passion

for Maranatha's $10 church

programme, coupled with their

concern for the environment, now

sends the Baehms as far away as

Sacramento, California to collect recyclables.

Kyle Fiess, vice president of

marketing for Maranatha, explains

the $10 church concept: "Since

1988, this special programme--by

encouraging thousands of people

to contribute just $10 a month

toward a fund that goes toward

the construction of one church a

month--has sponsored over 150

churches seating more than 30,000

people who previously had no place to worship."

"You might not think so, but we

really enjoy cleaning up around

here," says George. "Our

neighbours who see us picking up

trash want to know what we're

doing and why. So we get a

chance to tell them we take trash

and turn it into cash--cash that

pays for churches and schools

around the world. 'Give me that

can of soda, and let's turn that into

a church,' I tell them. There are still

so many people who don't have a

church, and we can really do something about that."

"This project has opened so many

doors to witness for us, and we are

just amazed that something of evil-

-because most of what we pick up

are beer cans--can be used for

God and really transformed into

something positive," says Tena.

George adds that initially, some

locals were more than a little

curious. They think, ‘Why are these

two little people picking up trash?

They'll say, 'Run over there and

give him a dollar; maybe he needs

a bite to eat,' which is hardly the

case. But of course, when people

see us reaching into dumpsters, we

have to explain ourselves--

especially since we're only four feet tall!"

During a phone interview with

Adventist News Network, George

and Tena said their short stature

has inspired them to impact the

world. "That we're little definitely

plays into this project, because

people really take notice when

they see us," says George.

Tena adds that she and George

certainly aren't doing anything

glamorous; they're just following

the advice of one of their favourite

Bible verses, 1 Peter 4:10. "It tells us

that 'God has given each of us

some special ability to use to help

each other, as faithful stewards of God,'" quotes Tena.

“If you have a willingness to help, God can always use you," say George and Tena

Baehm. The couple launched a recycling ministry that helps sponsor the construction

of churches, schools, and orphanages around the world. (Photo: courtesy of

2211.. Stewardship: We are God's stewards, entrusted by Him with time and opportunities, abilities and

possessions, and the blessings of the earth and its resources. We are responsible to Him for their proper use. We

acknowledge God's ownership by faithful service to Him and our fellow men, and by returning tithes and giving

offerings for the proclamation of His gospel and the support and growth of His church. Stewardship is a privilege

given to us by God for nurture in love and the victory over selfishness and covetousness. The steward rejoices in

the blessings that come to others as a result of his faithfulness. (Gen. 1:26-28; 2:15; 1 Chron. 29:14; Haggai 1:3-11;

Mal. 3:8-12; 1 Cor. 9:9-14; Matt. 23:23; 2 Cor. 8:1-15; Rom. 15:26, 27.)
