Sunday November 9 th , 2014 – 32 nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Praying for Salesians in Formation Please keep in prayer Br. Minh One aspect of Salesianity that connects with me is the idea of mission. I feel I am called to be a missionary, not because I am hungry for experience nor do I feel the need to accomplish something. I do it because I want to understand the lives of other people who are different from me, and I do it because I think it is terrible just to live with one's own privileges. I think too much comfort will eventually lead to isolation; for we are living in a time where there are two dynamic forces pulling us together and apart as a group of people sharing a planet. Pulling together globalization and instant communication, on one hand and on the other separation or fragmentation of cultures into smaller groups, such as with developing countries. In most of these places, the Salesians live and work side by side with the people. My hope in the near future is to be able to follow in their footsteps and to contribute my time and energy for the people. IN MEMORIAL GIVING Our parish is where we celebrate the special moments of our lives. It is where we come to be married, see our children and grandchildren baptized, come to be reconciled with God, and to be nourished by the Holy Eucharist. Our parish is where we will come to take our final journey out of this world and into the next. One way you can show others that the Church is important to you is to request that all in lieu of flowers donations made in your memory be directed toward your parish or favourite Archdiocesan charity. To ensure that your wishes are fulfilled, let your family know of your intention. Then sign and date the attached “In Lieu of Flowers Request” form and keep it with your will. The Archdiocese will ensure that In Memoriam cards are delivered to the funeral home for the visitation. THE VISITATION Join us for an evening of Eucharistic Adoration, confession, reflection, prayer, praise and worship and fellowship! Everyone is welcome so invite your friends, family, community and youth group! FRIDAY NOVEMBER 14, 7PM Mammas House fellowship follows in parish hall. All are welcome! OUT OF THE COLD PROGRAM November 16, 2014-March 22, 2015 In the spirit of charity together as a parish, we will host dinners and provide bagged lunches on November 23, February 1 and March 22. For the month of December instead of a meal we will provide each guest with a Christmas gift bag containing essential items such as a tooth brush, a disposable razor, a couple pair of socks, travel size toothpaste, deodorant and shaving cream and some candy/chocolate treats. A wish list has been posted in the Church foyer above the wooden box in which you may place the items you wish to donate. We urge those wanting to contribute to do so as soon as possible in order that we can start assembling the gift bags for Christmas. For those wishing to make a cash donation to be applied towards this cause, or contribute to the meal being prepared on November 23 rd , 2014, you will find us at the back of the church after each Mass this weekend or you can contact Catherine: 416-795-4310. Thank you for your continued generosity and kindness. Syrian Refugee Family Arriving Next Week The Resettlement Committee is happy to announce that the Syrian refugee family our parish is sponsoring is scheduled to arrive in Toronto next Thursday, November 13. The Committee is grateful for the full and generous financial support from a private family donor and for several donors from Markham and their friends from out of province. Words of gratitude also go to our friends in Markham who greatly support the sponsorship with the collection and delivery of furniture and household items and clothing for the family. Within our parish family, thanks go to all those who signed up to offer temporary housing, to cook a meal, to orient the family to our city with a ride on the TTC. If you haven’t already been contacted, you will be soon. The family, a mother, father and 2 year old son, will travel to Canada via Beirut, Lebanon. Let’s pray for their safety as they travel to their new home with us. A Place to Call Home Compassionate God, no one is a stranger to you and no one is ever far from your loving care. Watch over those who are separated from their loved ones and homeland; those who fear persecuon and hope for a beer life in our community. May we reach out in welcome to all those who arrive as refugees, embracing one another so that together, your hope, O God, will be our future.

Shepherds’ Trust Collection

As members of our Catholic community, we regularly benefit from the tireless service of our priests. Called by God and ordained to care for His people, our priests serve our families, in churches, schools, hospitals, nursing homes, missions and on the streets. The Shepherds’ Trust ensures our priests can live their retirement years with dignity.

The Shepherds’ Trust collection will take place in all parishes in the Archdiocese during the weekend of November 15/16. Envelopes will be distributed the weekend of November 8/9.

This fund does more than just support our priest’s in their twilight years; it represents a very tangible gesture of thanks for the blessings we have received. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Sunday Missals $5 ADULTS ~ $10 YOUTH

ON SALE NEXT WEEKEND NOVEMBER 15/16 proceeds benefit KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SQUIRES

The liturgical year ends with the feast of Christ the King on the last Sunday of November and the new church year begins with Advent. You’ll need a new missal for the start of Advent: November 29 & 30.

The Sunday Missal is intended to be a tool used at home for preparing for the weekly Sunday Mass. Parishioners are encouraged to purchase a copy of the missal for themselves for use during personal prayer time during the week by reading and reflecting on the gospel and readings for the upcoming Sunday. This prayer style better prepares us to listen to God’s Word as it is proclaimed on Sunday.
