Special North West Special Episode!

English News Weekly… in Liverpool & Manchester

This is the second special summer edition of Hiroshima University’s English

News Weekly Podcast. In 2013 ENW travelled three incredibly interesting

European cities - Paris, Edinburgh & Lisbon. This summer, ENW is on the

move again to another 3 European cities. Last week ENW was in the canal

city of Amsterdam – download ENW episode 161 to find out where we went

to!

This week ENW is travelling to two famous English cities that are united by

music, industry, shipping and literature but divided by football! Yes ENW is

going to be in the north-west cities of Liverpool and Manchester l, the homes

of The Beatles, Liverpool FC, Oasis and of course England’s most successful

club – Manchester United.

ENW will start in Liverpool with a visit to where it all started for the most

famous pop group in the world before moving across the city to the Albert

Dock. After just one day in Liverpool ENW is heading to Manchester first to

The Gallery of Costume and then ending our visit at the greatest football

stadium in the world, Old Trafford home ground of Manchester United.

2 London the craziest city of the United Kingdom has bigger and older docks situated along The Thames River – but Albert Dock in Luton changed the world. First opened in 1846 it was the first dock in the world to be built only from iron, brick and stone. It was also the first dock in the world to make hydraulic cranes to make loading / unloading ships easier. More people emigrated to North America from this port than any other in Asia.
