A New Parsifal

Just in time for a broadcast on Wagner’s bicentennial on 22 May 2013, Clasart Classic presents the new production of Parsifal from the Metropolitan Opera. In this production of Wagner’s final mas-terpiece Jonas Kaufmann, one of the most renowned Wagner te-nors of our time, stars in the title role of the innocent who finds wisdom. He is surrounded by no one less than Katarina Dalayman, René Pape, Peter Mattei and Ev-geny Nikitin. Daniele Gatti con-ducts. The premiere of this new production by the Canadian François Girard was unanimously hailed by the press. Gottfried Helnwein & The Drea-ming Child provides an insight into the work of the titular Austri-an photo-realist painter, who turns 65 in October 2013. In summer the Albertina in Vienna will stage his hitherto largest retrospective in the German-speaking area.

When the Israeli Opera decided to produce a new operatic version of Hanoch Levin’s play The Drea-ming Child, Helnwein was the ob-vious choice to design it. Both, Helnwein and Levin, are concer-ned with the theme of childhood innocence betrayed.

Directed and produced by Lisa Kirk Colburn; distributed worldwi-de for TV by EuroArts (excl. USA). The film will also be released on DVD/Blu-ray on the EuroArts label (excl. USA).
