4-H Academic Eligibility You must be enrolled in 4-H and be making passing grades in school before you can compete in any 4-H contest. The reason we ask you to notify us so early that you want to compete in contests is because we must check with your school to see if you are passing at least two weeks in ad-vance of the contest. Extension sends a letter to your school with the contest name, date and whether competi-tion will require you to miss any school. We can not excuse you from school unless you have enrolled in 4-H.
Don’t forget that it is still your responsibility to let your school know the exact dates you will be absent from school so they will know how to code your absence. If they don’t know why you’re not at school, you may be given an unexcused absence. You should also get assign-ments from your teachers before leaving.
If you are not academically eligible to compete, the school will notify a county agent who will let one of your parents know that there is a problem with your grades.
4-H Connect Reopen for New Year 4-H Connect has reopened, and you may reenroll 4-H youth in your family for the price of $20 (Clover Kids enroll-ment will still be free). January 1st, the enrollment fee will increase to $25.
Important things to remember about reenrolling in 4-H:
• If you have been enrolled in 4-H, you already have a family profile and it is not necessary to build another. Please use this old family profile to reenroll. If you can’t remember your password, you can call the Exten-sion Office and we’ll reset your password then you can change it to one you will remember in the future.
• Be sure to fill in all the forms in 4-H enrollment. Information is not required on the medical form, but it does have to have a date and a signature for it to be valid.
• If you wish to receive a copy of the monthly 4-H newsletter in the mail, please edit your family’s profile and choose mail as your correspondence preference. Also, if you have someone else you would like to keep in-formed about 4-H like a grandparent or anyone else not living with you, place that email in the second house-hold email field.
• 4-H Leaders need to reenroll each year also. Every three years, a background check will need to be run on leaders. Trainings are good for 2 years. NEW THIS YEAR, IF YOU WISH, PARENT BOOSTER CLUB WILL REIMBURSE YOUR $10 ENROLLMENT FEE. PLEASE PAY FOR YOUR ENROLLMENT WITH A CREDIT CARD, AND WE’LL MAIL YOU A CHECK.
Meeting Room Reservation Requests If you want to schedule a meeting in one of the Kuhlman Extension Center meeting rooms, please fill out a Meeting Room Reservation Request Form found at http://randall.agrilife.org/4h-youth-development-2/forms-2/misc-forms/.
You may bring the completed form to the Extension Office or send it to the Randall County box [email protected]. We’ll confirm that your meeting has been placed on the cal-endar. Remember, it’s first come, first served so make a res-ervation as soon as you find out you’re having a meeting.
VERY IMPORTANT!! Watch Your Emails
We will be emailing the monthly 4-H newsletter, a weekly news blast and important 4-H information to your family’s e-mail addresses with “Randall 4-H” in the subject line.
What’s Happening
Attention: Club and Project Leaders If you have something you would like placed in the 4-H newsletter, please e-mail the Extension Office at [email protected] by the 20th of each month or the following Monday if the 20th is on the weekend. We will no longer be calling you for this information. If we don’t hear from you, your club will be told to contact a club leader for meeting information.
Quality Counts Certification Numbers
If you plan on competing in any of the fairs, the County or any major stock show and have not com-pleted the Quality County Training and Testing, you must get this done. This is an online training that basically covers livestock feeding and medication as well as ethic topics. It takes about 20 minutes to complete the training and test.
There is a junior level as well as a senior level test. Juniors (ages 8 and in the third grade-13 as of Sep-tember 1st) must pass your test only once during their 4-H career at which time you will be issued a certificate of completion number. When you be-come a senior (ages 14-19 as of September 1st) you must take and pass a senior test at which time you will be issued another completion number.
THIS NUMBER IS VERY IMPORTANT as it will be a requirement to be recorded on all major show en-try forms. BE SURE TO KEEP UP WITH IT. For com-pete instructions on how to take this test, go to the County Website, Livestock, Quality Counts Packet at: https://randall.agrilife.org/4-h-livestock/

Swine Flu
From now through Spring, FFA and 4-H members who
will be working with their pigs are advised to take a flu
vaccination to reduce the risk and severity of flu virus
recombination if illness does occur. This variant has sur-
faced in a human in Texas at least once, and yes it was
associated with a visit to a swine exhibition.
