RepoRt to the Community

Trustees worked hard this year to keep tabs on the chang-ing needs of Airdronians, coping with technological upgrades, facility optimization, and programming demands that far outstrip availability, adjusting where needed to improve service. The elimination of membership fees for students and seniors is one of the many ways trustees are fine-tuning library service.

Despite the false start in setting course towards a new facil-ity, your trustees remain committed to the vision outlined by citizens in the recent facility needs assessment. Look-

ing ahead, the board is eager to partner with city council and residents to break ground on building a library that will not only meet the community’s needs of today, but the future needs of our growing population.

The task of the board will be to facilitate innovative ideas while maintaining a fis-cally responsible approach to delivering service. We pledge to think outside the box to meet the high standards of service expected by the citizens of Airdrie.

The library continues to seek creative ways to serve the community despite operating out of a tight space. Circula-tion of material through Smartlockers™ at Genesis Place and a new Summer Stories in the Park program are two ways we have reached out to deliver service outside our walls.

Despite difficult times for many, sponsorships and do-nations to the library grew in 2016. Watch for us in the community, thanks to a delivery van generously donated by Airdrie Dodge, just one of the library’s outstanding support-ers in the business community.

Your library team works hard every day to make the Airdrie Public Library a valuable community asset we can all be proud of. It’s our commitment to you.
