IMMUNE SYSTEM
By Trystan Stuehm & Logan Sullivan
Adenoids-Are two glands at the back of the nasal passage.
They are your first line of defense. They protect
your body from harmful bacteria and infections.
Tonsils-Are two oval masses in the back of the
throat. Tonsils also protect the body from illness and infections.
Appendix-Is a tube connected to the large intestine, blood vessels,
arteries and veins. It is used for a storage place for bacteria.
Bone marrow-Is a soft fatty Tissue in the bone. Red blood cells are produced here. 500 million red blood cells are produced each day.
Bone marrow takes up 4 percent your body weight.
Thymus-Is two lobes that join in front of the trachea. It processes
Lymphocytes. It sends a message to the
lymphocytes to attack viruses
Spleen-Is an organ located in the abdomen. Blood and lymph move
through the spleen so it can break down old components. It retains useful products
for recycling, then it takes out the rest.
Thymocytes is a lymphocyte made in the thymus that develops into a t cell.
Right lymphatic ducts it is a lymph vessel that collects lymph draining
from the right upper body and head. It is 1.25 centimeters in length.
The left lymphatic duct, also known as the thoracic duct. It is the largest
lymphatic vessel in the body. It collects lymph from the left
side of the body.
Describe the function of the immune system....
The function of the immune system is to fight and protect the body from infections and illnesses.
Cells of the immune system use the circulatory system to patrol the body. And they both fight off diseases.
Describe the relationship between the immune system and the
circulatory system.
Describe the term immunity.l The ability of an organism to resist diseasel To be immune.l Counteracting the effects of a illness.
Antigen-Capable of making an immune response. It can take away the production
of antibodies.
Phagocytes-a white blood cell that protects the body by ingesting harmful particles,
bacteria and dead and dying cells.
Describe the following terms :
T cells- The t cells are like soldiers who destroy targeted invaders. The T cells protect the body from infection. A Vaccine- is a preparation of a dead virus or microorganism that is given to increase immunity to a disease.
A balanced diet is important to the immune system because…it helps the body get all of the vitamins and minerals that it needs to function. And so the immune system can work and function right.
A lymph node is an small bean shaped gland. They are located throughout the body. Lymph node is an organ of the immune system.
Disorders...Some of the immune systems disorders are allergies and auto immune disorders that are caused by the body.
Examples of these are....
Multiple Sclerosis is when... the immune system attacks nerve cells,
causing symptoms that can include pain and blindness.
Type One Diabetes is when...
insulin-producing beta cells within the pancreas are
destroyed and they fail to produce insulin. They are destroyed by the immune system.
Chrohn's Disease
A person with Crohn's Disease has inflammation in the digestive tract. A person with Crohn's Disease has diarrhea and abdominal pain.
A weak immune system is the cause Crohn’s Disease.
FactsIt is very important to get at least 8 hours of sleep
each night. But if you get 5 hours or under of sleep. The body has over 50 million white blood cells that
work together to protect the body.If you smoke when you are older you will
have a very weak immune system.
