"I am baptizing you with water, but one mightier than I is coming.
I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire."
Christmas Time always ends with a Feast in honor of the Baptism of the Lord. This Feast proclaims a theophany, a revelation or manifestation of the Divine Sonship of Jesus by his anointing and appointment to his messianic office. It is the Feast that proclaims the Baptism that elevates believers to the status of sons and daughters of God. Because of the power of John's Baptism, the people's expectation is that they have found the Christ in John. John points the people, however, to Jesus, who will bring an even more powerful Baptism. The Holy Spirit descended on Jesus, so does the Holy Spirit descend upon us; Jesus is the beloved Son, so are we beloved children; God was well pleased with Jesus, so is God well pleased with us. To what does such a Baptism call us? What do we expect? What does God expect?
The Second Reading from Titus spells out what Baptismal living looks like: "reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live temperately, justly, and devoutly." This is the rebirth to which God calls us. Over time and experience we grow to maturity as human beings, appreciating more and more fully both our roots and our potential. So, too, with Baptism. We grow over time into understanding its meaning and its power!
This Friday, January 18th, is a time for action on behalf of life - the 46th March for Life on the National Mall in Washington, DC! To help change American cultural attitudes regarding life and to show solidarity among Americans of every stripe, hundreds of thousands are expected to participate in this year’s March, the largest pro-life event in the world. If you would like to participate, please see information here-in on buses leaving from St. Elizabeth’s in Wyckoff. If you can’t make the March, we will have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in our Church from 12 noon – 6pm, to pray for all those who will travel to Washington in support of life, for our politicians and leaders so that God and their conscience can be their guide in their decisions on the value of life, for all those – women, men, and families - who have suffered emotional pain and grieving due to abortion, and for all protection of human life – from conception to natural death.
As we close out this Christmas season let us continue to pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God. Her open heart and courageous “yes” to God show us how to live year-round—with hearts open to the Lord, following where He leads. We are called to place our trust in Him, to enter compassionately into the suffering of others, and to love one another as Christ loves us. Like Our Blessed Mother welcomed Jesus, we are called to cherish and protect the gift of human life, at every stage and in every circumstance! God Bless You. Have a wonderful and safe week. Fr. Jacek

JANUARY 22-27 World Youth Day (WYD) is a worldwide encounter with the Pope which is typically celebrated every three years in a different country. The most recent WYD was celebrated in Krakow, Poland from July 26th to 31st, 2016 and this
year’s World Youth Day will be held in Panama City, Panama from January 22nd to 27th.
WYD is open to all young people who want to take part in a festive encounter with their contemporaries centered on Jesus Christ. This event is an opportunity to experience in first person the universality of the Church; to share
with the whole world the hope of many young people who want to commit themselves to Christ and others. World Youth Day is a unique way to deepen faith and grow closer to Christ, by means of prayer and the sacraments,
together with thousands of other young people who share their interests and ambitions.
As World Youth Day Panamá is fast approaching, let us join with the pilgrims in prayer. Each World Youth Day has its own special prayer that is shared by pilgrims around the world:
WYD PANAMÁ PILGRIM PRAYER Merciful Father, You call us to live our lives as a way of salvation.
Help us to recall the past with gratitude, to embrace the present with courage and to build the future with hope. Lord Jesus, our friend and brother, thank you for looking upon us with love.
Let us listen to your voice as it resonates in the hearts of each one with the strength and light of the Holy Spirit. Grant us the grace of being a Church that goes forth with vibrant faith and
a youthful face to communicate the joy of the Gospel. May we help to build up the kind of society we long for, one where there is fairness and fellowship.
We pray for the Pope and bishops; for priests and deacons; for those in consecrated life and for volunteers; for young people and all who will participate in the upcoming World Youth Day in Panamá,
and for those who are preparing to receive them. Our Lady of Antigua, Patroness of Panama, help us to pray and live with generosity like yours: “I am the servant of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word” (Lk 1:38). Amen.
WYD Panamá has named eight great Saints of the Church to intercede for pilgrims and their needs: St. José Sánchez del Rio St. John Bosco St. Martin de Porres St. Juan Diego St. John Paul II St. Rose of Lima Blessed Sor María Romero Meneses Blessed Oscar Arnulfo Romero
Stay tuned in next week’s Bulletin for the schedule of Pope Francis’ live events.

JOIN US AT THE WORLD’S LARGEST PRO-LIFE EVENT AND LET’S MAKE A
DIFFERENCE TOGETHER!
2019 MARCH FOR LIFE WASHINGTON, D.C. FRIDAY, JANUARY 18
To help change American cultural attitudes regarding life and to show solidarity among Americans of every stripe, hundreds of thousands are expected to participate in this year’s March for Life, the largest pro-life event in the world. This 46th Rally and March are planned for Friday, January 18th on the National Mall at 12 noon.
The 2019 March for Life theme is “UNIQUE from Day One.”
Being pro-life is not in opposition to science. It’s quite the opposite in fact! Medical and technological advancements continue to reaffirm the science behind the pro-life cause – that life begins at fertilization, or day one, when egg meets sperm and a new, unique, human embryo is created.
The unique fingerprint that each of us has – distinguishing us from any other human on the planet, is determined by that DNA at day one! Right from the beginning of life, you are becoming the unique, incredible, unrepeatable person that you are! When life begins, and the stages of prenatal development are scientific facts. Humanity – and our uniqueness as individuals – begins at day one, at fertilization. Life, in its most vulnerable form, should be protected.
That is, in essence, why we march. We march to end abortion, with the vision of a world where the beauty, dignity, and uniqueness of every human life are valued and protected.
This year’s speakers will include Abby Johnson and Ben Johnson along with a pre-rally concert with Sidewalk Prophets. Buses will leave for the event from nearly every state in the nation. See information In next column on the bus leaving from our area. Complete details for the event: www.MarchforLife.org .
