SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, FEBRUARY 11, 2018
RCIA – Rite of Sending, Rites of Election & Call to Continuing Conversion
The Rite of Election celebrates the Lord's choosing
of men, women and children of catechetical age who, with
the help of the Church, acknowledge God’s election of them
for the Easter Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and
Eucharist.
The Rite of Election to be held Sunday, February 18
in Dayton, marks the beginning of the final period of
intensive preparation for initiation through the Sacraments of
Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.
The Call to Continuing Conversion, also held
February 18, marks the final period of preparation for those
preparing to be received into full communion or for those
Catholics completing their initiation through Confirmation
and First Eucharist at the Easter Vigil.
The RCIA process is a "parish-wide" undertaking
and all parishioners are encouraged to reach out and
welcome our catechumens and candidates and pray for them
on the “Journey of Faith.” As a sign of our prayerful support
and encouragement, we will celebrate the Rite of Sending
with our RCIA folks at the 9:00 a.m. Mass, next Sunday,
February 18.
World Day of the Sick Each year, on February 11 the Memorial of Our
Lady of Lourdes, the Church celebrates the "World Day of
the Sick." On this day in particular, we focus on the
redemptive value of human suffering and on the important
role of those who are sick have in the work of spreading the
Gospel. Whether your cross is your own illness, loneliness or
pain, or that of a loved one, you have a special bond with
Christ Crucified and also with the suffering people of the
world.
Pope Francis writes the following in his 2018
message: “The theme for this year’s Day of the Sick is
provided by the words that Jesus spoke from the Cross to
Mary, his Mother, and to John: ‘Woman, behold your son ...
Behold your mother. And from that hour the disciple took
her into his home’ (Jn 19:26-27). To Mary, Mother of tender
love, we wish to entrust all those who are ill in body and
soul, that she may sustain them in hope. We ask her also to
help us to be welcoming to our sick brothers and sisters. The
Church knows that she requires a special grace to live up to
her evangelical task of serving the sick. May our prayers to
the Mother of God see us united in an incessant plea that
every member of the Church may live with love the vocation
to serve life and health May the Virgin Mary intercede for
this Twenty-sixth World Day of the Sick; may she help the
sick to experience their suffering in communion with the
Lord Jesus; and may she support all those who care for them.
To all, the sick, to healthcare workers and to volunteers, I
cordially impart my Apostolic Blessing.”
As you pray and offer your crosses, in union with
Christ, may God in his mercy bless you with peace.

Dear Parishioner,
Lent begins, Wednesday, February 14th with Ash Wednesday, a day of fast and abstinence
for Catholics. Ashes remind us to turn away from sin and be faithful to the gospel. Ash
Wednesday masses will be at 7:30 AM, 9:00 AM and 6:30 PM.
Prayer, fasting and almsgiving are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. Prayer invites
us into God’s presence, whether personal or communal, through Scripture, devotional prayer,
adoration, meditation, journaling, Stations of the Cross, other sacramentals and especially through
the Eucharist, our great prayer of Thanksgiving. Our Lenten fasting is rooted in experiencing
hunger for food, but it goes beyond this. We are hungry so that we might discover what we truly need. Fasting
helps us look at all that we consume (and all that consumes us). It helps us discern what is good and right in
God’s eyes. Fasting clears the deck, simplifies our lives, and frees us to work toward a world that is more just and
loving. Almsgiving is the way in which we work for greater justice. It is all the deeds we can do and the gifts we
can offer to help recreate the world anew.
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, March 30, 2018, are days of fast and abstinence. Fridays of Lent are
also days of abstinence. Fasting is to be observed by all those 18 years of age and older, who have not yet
celebrated their 60th birthday. On a fast day one full meal is allowed. Two other meals sufficient to maintain
strength, may be taken to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between
meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed. Abstinence is observed by all those 14
years of age and older. On days of abstinence no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would
be seriously affected, the law does not oblige.
With regard to the obligatory days listed above, however, there are frequent questions about the degree of
seriousness of the matter. The teaching of Pope John Paul II may be simply paraphrased: the obligation to do
penance is a serious one; the obligation to observe, as a whole or “substantially,” the penitential days specified by
the Church is also serious. No one should be scrupulous in this regard; failure to observe an individual day of
penance is not considered serious. People should seek to do more rather than less. Fast and abstinence on the days
prescribed should be considered a minimum response to the Lord’s call to penance and conversion.
There are resources and opportunities that may deepen your Lenten journey:
Beginning February 19th, Monday evening Stations of the Cross at 6:30 p.m. followed by Lenten Mass
at 7:00 p.m.
Lenten Faith Sharing on Thursdays – see flier in this week’s bulletin.
The Little Black Book for adults or Little Purple Book for children can be picked up in the entrance of
church, PAC or the Parish Office. These provide deeper insights into the season of Lent.
The Light Is On for You - This year at I.C. and in parishes across the Archdiocese of Cincinnati the
Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available on Tuesday, February 27th from 7:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m. in
Church. Consider making a commitment this Lent to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation and
receive the healing grace of God’s forgiveness and love. Learn more at: www.lightison4u.com. I.C.
will also have a Parish Penance Service Wednesday, February 28, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. and individual
confessions Thursdays, March 15th and 22nd at 7:00 p.m. Individual confessions will be held
Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. (No Saturday Confessions March 31st)

Ash Wednesday Collection The collection to aid the Church in Africa will take place on Ash Wednesday. The fastest growing area of
the church is Africa. We can support the Church in Africa as they face unprecedented growth in challenging
circumstances.
Attention Ushers Plan “B” will be in effect for all Masses on Ash Wednesday. When you arrive at church check and see if
there are enough ushers. If you are the first one there start the prep work and secure enough ushers to help you.
Come join us on our Lenten journey through the
Scripture of the Mysteries of the Rosary.
The first four Thursdays in March we will pray,
explore, and reflect on the Luminous, Sorrowful, and
Glorious Mysteries using Stephen Binz’s
Threshold Bible Study book
Mysteries of the Rosary.
This study explores the biblical roots of each mystery
and the meditative traditions of this popular prayer.
Enhance your reflection of these Mysteries by
understanding their biblical underpinnings.
There are two opportunities each day for you to join a
discussion group, 8:30 AM or 7:00 PM., so you can
pick which one better fits your schedule. All meetings
will be in Room 102 of the I.C. PAC.
March 1 – Study and discussion of various apparitions
of the Blessed Virgin Mary
March 8 – Discussion, reflection and prayer of the
Luminous Mysteries
March 15 – Discussion, reflection and prayer of the
Sorrowful Mysteries
March 22 – Discussion, reflection and prayer of the
Glorious Mysteries

Celebrate National Marriage Week
February 7–14, 2018
Celebrate the beauty and sanctity of marriage with
Humanae Vitae (1968-2018):
•Married love particularly reveals its true
nature and nobility when we realize that it takes its
origin from God, who “is love” (no. 8).
•“Marriage . . . [is] ordained toward the
procreation and education of children. Children are
really the supreme gift of marriage and contribute in
the highest degree to their parents’ welfare” (no. 9;
GS, no. 50).
•“The fundamental nature of the marriage act, .
. . Renders [husband and wife] capable of generating
new life—and this as a result of laws written into the
actual nature of man and of woman” (no. 12).
Marriage Benefits Everyone . . . •Economically: Married men and women have
more wealth and financial stability.
•Personally: Men and women in a stable
marriage live longer lives and have better health and
greater personal happiness.
•For Children: Children who are raised by a
married mother and father perform better in school
and have less trouble with the law, teen pregnancy,
and addiction.

School News
Last week we celebrated Catholic Schools Week.
The week began with an opening mass and an open house on
Sunday. The sixth grade presented a blacklight show and the
second grade presented a few Spanish songs they have
learned in Spanish class. Our service project for the week
was to collect needed personal care items for Our Home
Family Resource Center in Celina. Grades K-6 collected over
900 items for people in need. Congratulations to our first
grade class who earned a pizza party for collecting the most
items! The students wrote letters to retired priests and sisters
thanking them for their service as a way to celebrate
vocations on Monday. On Tuesday kids dressed in their best
red, white, and blue to show patriotism as we celebrated the
nation. Congratulations to Annabelle Baucher, Haylee
Harling, Stephanie Branceleone, Madison Muntzinger, Avery
Stachler, Jack McGohan, and Maddie Fleck for being best
dressed! On Wednesday, we watched videos of random acts
of kindness in our classrooms and students were challenged
to carry out some of these acts by the end of the week. These
acts of kindness really do make a difference! Thursday was a
special day for our students as we walked to the movie
theater with our family teams for a special showing of
Paddington 2! We are grateful for our supportive PTO who
covered a portion of each student’s fee for our movie outing!
Our week ended with a beautiful celebration at mass
honoring our volunteers who make I.C. so special! We are
truly blessed! Friday afternoon brought our week to a close
with a family team activity of BINGO and dodgeball!
Catholic Schools Week gives us a chance to celebrate what
makes I.C. School unique - sharing our faith with others!
We are proud to congratulate two of our fifth grade
students Ryan Wibbenmeyer and Jon Lutz for their winning
performance at the city spelling bee this week! Ryan was the
champion and Jon was runner-up! Way to go!
Student council members recently presented a check
for $800 to Mr. Mark Giesige for our sister parish and school
in El Chan, Guatemala. Most of the money was raised by our
annual Beach Blanket Bingo evenings. The money will be
used for a nutrition program for the school children. It is very
difficult to learn when you come to school hungry. With this
program the children receive 2 good meals a week to help
them to be successful in school.
Please Save the Date! The 8th annual All Saints Dinner Auction is set for
October 27, 2018 at Romer’s Catering in Celina. We look
forward to the change of venue and another great fundraiser
for I.C. School.
“We Are God’s Holy Boys and Girls - One Big Happy Family”
“We follow the leader - Jesus!”

Are You Ready To Be Transformed? Attend “Salt and Light: A Transformative Journey into
Catholic Social Teaching,” presented by the Archdiocese of
Cincinnati Catholic Social Action Office. Join us on an adventure
into the social dimension of the Gospel, focusing on how caring for
God’s creation is caring for our brothers and sisters as well as
focusing on options for the poor and vulnerable. We’ll use our
experience as an example of how we can address any real, local
issue of poverty or injustice that calls for a Christian response.
Kicking off with an exploration of Pope Francis and Pope Benedict
XVI’s writings, this series will include an immersion experience,
and opportunities to transform society by seeing and judging how
the Vatican and U.S. bishops’ statements on the Church’s social
teaching, can lead us to avenues for action through organized
parish social ministry. Five Thursday evening sessions: Feb. 22,
