As most of you have heard by now the Department of Public Health has announced the first confirmed case of EV-D68 in a Connecticut child. I am attaching information from the DPH on the virus. We have been monitoring the number of absences from school and have noticed no spikes or abnormalities. The methods of prevention are basically the same as the common cold. Therefore, I ask that you read the information provided in the following link and to ensure that if your child has any symptoms that you keep them at home. The goal of the Willington PTA is to provide services and activities to enhance educational experiences for the children of Center Elementary and Hall Memorial schools. You do not need to be a member to attend a PTA meeting or function, however membership is strongly encouraged to help support our organization! About the presenters:

Sara Reed, Director, Advocacy and Family Services, ASRC. Prior to 2012, she was Executive Director of ASCONN and has been a volunteer and

Board Member of ASCONN since 1995. A former securities and health care lawyer, she has also worked as a special education advocate helping

parents advocate for more appropriate services for their kids with ASD. At ASRC, she oversees the advocacy training programs, provides workshops on

autism and issues relating to autism and special education and advocacy and works directly with families, teachers, professionals and the general

community. She sits on many boards and committees working on autism issues and has presented locally and nationally.

Sara is a life long CT resident and lives in Plainville with her husband and son.

An Overview of Post K-12 Transition for Parents at all Stages Date: Wednesday October 15 2014 • Time: 6:30 PM Where: Willington Public Library, 7 Ruby Road, Willington, CTThe transition to adulthood for special needs students can be both exciting and stressful. Transition services are mandated for children aged 15 and older, but it is never too early to start thinking about the transition to adulthood including setting goals. This session will provide the following:

• An overview of the differences between the K-12, Postsecondary and Adult sys-tems

• The transition process• Suggestions for parents for beginning the planning process

About the SpeakerNick Gelbar, Ph.D., BCBA-D, NCSP, received his doctorate in School Psychology from the University of Connecticut and is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. He has extensive clinical experience diagnosing and providing treatment suggestions for individ-uals with ASD and other behavioral concerns. Currently, he is the Research Director at the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (CT-UCEDD) and an Assis-tant Professor in Community Medicine. His research interests focus on transition assess-ment and intervention primarily for individuals with ASD and other behavioral concerns.

Costumes are welcome for both pets AND people! Make sure to bring with you their rabies vaccination certificate forms; without them your pet will not be allowed to join the other pets in the pet photo shoot. There will be a limited number of appointments available, so please register early to reserve a spot!
