Sarah Weeks Is coming to Hall School
Ms. Weeks is the author of over 40 books for children. Her books range in reading level from early “lift the flap” books to novels for upper elementary grades. You can learn more about her by visiting SarahWeeks.com. Ms. Weeks will be at Hall School on April 3 & 4, 2013 and will hold presentations for all grade levels. Her presentations focus on her picture books for the younger grades and discussions about chapter books, novels, and the writing process for the older grades. Whe he is here for her author visit, Ms. Weeks will autograph book for the students. If you would like to pre‐order some n s of her books, I will hold them and have them set aside for her to sign when she is here. You are also welcome to purchase books on your own and bring them in for her to sign. I have attached an order form with this letter. If you wish to purchase through the school please return this form with your payment by February 20th. Forms returned after that date will NOT be included in our school order. A Day on Your Own in Boston
Date: Sat., March 16 (Registration deadline is Feb. 25)
• Time: Bus will leave the Exit 68 Commuter Parking Lot, Tolland next to Dunkin Donuts at 7:30 a.m. and return at approximately 6 p.m.
• Fee: $32 per person (fee includes bus transportation only)
• Plan a fun day in Boston. We’ll take you to Boston; drop you off at several locations and round you up again at the end of the day. The bus will drop off at the following locations: Public transportation is available for many others. • Boston Flower Show: This year’s theme is: First Impressions and will showcase ways to express one’s personality and style as well as add enjoyment and value to one’s property. the continuum of confl ict resolution options. Participants will learn several strategies for promoting positive communication within a team. Participants will also identify ways to resolve special education disputes

About the presenters:
Sara Reed, Director, Advocacy and Family Services, ASRC. Prior to 2012, she was Executive Director of ASCONN and has been a volunteer and
Board Member of ASCONN since 1995. A former securities and health care lawyer, she has also worked as a special education advocate helping
parents advocate for more appropriate services for their kids with ASD. At ASRC, she oversees the advocacy training programs, provides workshops on
autism and issues relating to autism and special education and advocacy and works directly with families, teachers, professionals and the general
community. She sits on many boards and committees working on autism issues and has presented locally and nationally.
Sara is a life long CT resident and lives in Plainville with her husband and son.
Carol Barans, M. Ed, 092, Carol has over 30 years of experience in public schools n CT as a special education teacher and administrator. As
such she was instrumental in developing and supervising a community based independent living program for 18-21 year olds as well as individualized
transition plans. As an administrator, she planned and coordinated the transition of students with ASD and NVLD. She has also worked in the field of
young adult services developing vocational and independent living opportunities for young adults with ASD. In addition, Carol is the parent of a son on
the autism spectrum and is a transition consultant at ASRC.

Charles Kramer Scholarship for Willington Residents
In May, 2013, scholarships (ranging between $250.00 and $500.00
depending on how many are awarded) will be available to graduating
high school seniors who:

Have graduated from Hall Memorial School
Plan to pursue a career in teaching
Submit a completed application by April 30, 2013
The Charles Kramer Scholarship fund was created in honor of
Charles Kramer, a former teacher at Hall Memorial School in
Willington. Applications are available on the Willington Public
School website and the guidance offices of E.O. Smith High School,
and at Windham Technical School. Applications must be submitted

WILLINGTON PARKS AND RECREATION IS HOSTING A SAFE BOATING AND PERSONAL WATERCRAFT
COURSE
Saturday, March 23rd and April 13th
8: 30 am- 4:30 pm at the Willington Town Office Building 40 Old Farms Road
Connecticut Safe Boating and Personal Watercraft Course.
This single session, 8-hour course, taught by Professional Marine Education, provides a certificate of completion as partial fulfillment of the requirements to obtain the Certification of Personal Watercraft Operation, which allows the operation of motorized recreational vessels up to 65’ and sailboats 19 ½’ in length and longer. Upon successful completion of this course, the student can mail or deliver the diploma to any State DEP office, and combined with an application for certificate (provided) and appropriate fee, qualifies the student to obtain the Certificate of Personal Watercraft Operation. The certificate is a one-time, lifetime certification. Students should bring a pen or pencil to class.
