INTERNATIONAL YOUTH PEACE,

CULTURE AND ARTS FESTIVAL April 24 - 26, 2015 at Kampala International University, Kansanga - Uganda

SPEAKER PROFILE: Opany Nelson Ochieng (Kenya)

Nelson is a youth leader from Kenya with a great passion for

youth empowerment, peace building and environmental

education. He possesses great experience in these fields

through his many years of involvement with the Scouting

Movement and other youth organizations in Kenya, Africa and

globally.

Currently, he serves as the National Youth Representative and

a member of the National Executive Committee of Kenya

Scouts Association. He also chairs the Eastern Africa Scouts

Youth Forum which brings together Scouting youth from the

East African Community countries including Ethiopia and South

Sudan.

Nelson is a Global Ambassador of the World Scout Movement’s

Messengers of Peace Initiative; and doubles up as the National

Coordinator of the initiative in Kenya.

Since 2011, Nelson has been involved in Climate Change

Advocacy with various initiatives locally and globally. Non

Formal Education and Intercultural Learning are some of his

other interests.

In September 2013, he was among seven international Scouts

who received the World Scout Messengers of Peace Hero Award

in Saudi Arabia – in recognition of his efforts and leadership

towards promoting peace building among young people in

Africa.

During the International Youth Peace Culture and Arts Festival,

Nelson will be presenting on “ Youth Advocacy and Peace

Building”; where he will share his perspectives on the topic as

well as the work of the Scouting Movement in Africa and

beyond through the Messengers of Peace initiative.
