JINGLE BELL ROCK HOLIDAY PARTY
Our annual “Jingle Bell Rock” Holiday Party was a
fantastic time to rock the night away with everyone
who contributed to an amazing year for our IIDA
Houston City Center. Gremillion & Co Fine Art Gallery
set the stage for the end of year kick off, with sounds of
RPM 33 1/3, fronted by J.Tyler’s own Gary Longbotham
and Polly Block, filled the space as attendees mixed and
mingled over cocktails and bites!
In addition to the fantastic party and networking
opportunities, we also launched our HCC raffle tickets
sales benefitting TAID. We are glad to announce at
the holiday party alone we were able to sell more
than $300 worth of tickets. The drawing for the
raffle will be held on January 30 at our
Chapter Forum Speaker Tour and TAID
awareness event. It is not too late to
buy your tickets! (See page 2 for
details.)

Forty talented students will be selected by their professors to participate in a unique charrette competition. As we kick off the new year, it is often customary for us to make resolutions about things we wish to improve in our lives and others. We strive to be better to ourselves, our loved ones, and in some cases complete strangers. Lets add one more resolution to our list and be kind to our planet as well. There are many simple behaviors we can change that will have a tremendous reward for us all in the long run. Listed below are some simple steps we can all take that will help in our personal and professional lives. Remember that one small difference has a compounding effect in either direction.
- Cut down on materials: One of the easiest ways to decrease environmental impact is by reducing the amount of materials used to create and market your product.
- Use environmentally conscious materials: Reducing the amount of materials used is only half the battle…The real challenge is making a commitment to using quality, sustainable materials.
- Recycle Electronics- this includes obsolete cell phones, old video games, and old computers at Best Buy or Target, or repurposed through sites like interconnection.org.
- Use your Leg Power- walk or cycle more. This also helps with the resolution to exercise more.
- Shop Local- This saves on transportation, increases the support to local businesses and allows you to eliminate waste by not purchasing in excess.
- Switch all banking and billing to paperless- No more writing checks, or getting a bill in the mail.
- Unplug all chargers or devices when not in use- items plugged in but not in use account for 5% energy waste in the US alone.
I hope some of these items inspire you and I wish you the best with all your resolutions this year.
