MASS WEEKEND READINGS

Dear Parishioners of Sacred Heart and St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, It is hard to believe that I write you as I conclude my six months here in Hollister. Time has lown by and it is already the middle of summer. This season provides many of us with opportunities for fun and relaxation as well as visits with family and friends. For others, summer brings the blessing of work and steady employment. Whatever the rhythm of summer is for you I pray that God will bless you during these months. One of the irst things I noticed when I arrived at this parish is that hardly a week goes by without a second collection. I am encouraged by the generosity of all of you who give to these worthy causes, but I am also convinced that the constant bombardment of these collections is simply too much. After consulting with the inance council, I have decided to drastically reduce the num-ber of second collections beginning in September. The biggest change comes in the ar-ea of national second collections. We will have second collections at Mass for diocesan and national needs four times a year to support the Retirement Fund for Aged/In irm Priests, Catholic Charities, Respect Life and the Education of Seminarians and Priests. All other national second collections will be combined into a letter that will be mailed to you during the irst months of 2020. This will allow you to prayerfully take your time at home to make one contribution that will be divided up however you choose among the different needs. This result is that there are 11 Sundays during the year that we would have had a second collection but now won’t have to. That is almost 3 months! I’ll make sure you get clear instructions as to how this will work when the time comes next year. We will continue to support our local ministries of the Sacred Heart Thrift Store and Fishes and Loaves through regular collections, although these will be less frequent. We will also continue take up second collections for particular operating costs of the parish such as for maintenance needs. I thank you again for your generosity both to this parish and to needs of the Church be-yond Hollister. Estimados feligreses de nuestra Iglesia Sagrado Corazon y San Benito, Que rapido se han pasado estos seis meses aquı en Hollister desde que llegue. El tiempo ha pasado volando y ya estamos en pleno verano. Esta temporada nos brinda a muchos de nosotros oportunidades de diversion y relajacion, ası como visitas con familiares y amigos. Para otros, el verano trae la bendicion del trabajo y empleo estable. Cualquiera que sea el ritmo del verano para ustedes, oro para que Dios los bendiga durante estos meses. Una de las primeras cosas que note cuando llegue a esta parroquia es el numero de se-gundas colectas, casi cada semana hay una. Me alienta la generosidad de todos ustedes que dan a estas causas valiosas, pero tambien estoy convencido de que deberıamos de disminuir el numero de segundas colectas. Despues de consultar con el consejo de inanzas, decidı reducir drasticamente el nume-ro de segundas colectas a partir de septiembre. El mayor cambio se producira en el area de segundas colectas para causas nacionales. Lo que se hara es que tendremos to-davıa una segunda colecta en la Misa para necesidades diocesanas y nacionales cuatro veces al ano para apoyar el Fondo de Retiro para Sacerdotes ansıanos o enfermos, otra para Caridades Catolicas, otra para Respeto a la Vida y la ultima para Educacion de Se-minaristas y Sacerdotes. Todas las otras segundas colectas para necesidades nacionales se combinaran en una carta que se les enviara por correo durante los primeros meses de 2020. Esto les permitira tomarse en oracion su tiempo en casa para hacer una con-tribucion que se dividira de la manera que elijan entre las diferentes necesidades. El re-sultado de este cambio es que habra 11 domingos donde ya no tendremos que hacer segunda colecta. ¡Eso es casi 3 meses! Me asegurare de que reciban instrucciones claras sobre como funcionara esto cuando llegue el momento el proximo ano. Continuaremos brindando apoyo a nuestros ministerios locales de la tiendita de segun-da de Sagrado Corazon y Peces y Panes a traves de colecciones regulares, aunque seran menos frecuentes. Tambien continuaremos con las segundas colectas para los costos operativos particulares de la parroquia, como las necesidades de mantenimiento. Les agradezco nuevamente su generosidad con esta parroquia y con las necesidades de la Iglesia mas alla de Hollister. Gracias a su gen-erosidad, con nuamos prestando servicios a los pobres de nuestra comunidad al reciclar sus productos de buen uso y brindándoles asistencia, que incluye ropa, kits de aseo para personas sin ho-gar y vales de alimentos para las fiestas. La n Mass Sacred Heart Church is the site for the Tradi onal La n Mass in the Monterey Bay Area. This is the Mass as it was celebrated for over a thousand years, it is celebrated in the same way as most of the saints in the Catholic Church experienced it, not to say most of our ancestors. There’s confessions every Sunday prior to this Mass from 9:45-10:15 a.m., and a Sung High La n Mass begins at 10:30 a.m. The La n Mass priest is Fr. Beaugrand.
