Diet: Plants, grasshoppers, caterpillars, ants and about any insects they can find.

Animal Type: Emu’s are birds, one of the larges birds in the world. They can’t fly because they are so big.

Natural Habitat: They live in Australia in the forests and woodlands. They like to travel in pairs.

I chose the Emu to be in my zoo because I think that they are really funny looking and they make me laugh. They are unique and really fast. They can run up to 30 miles per hour. If they were in my zoo I would want to make sure to have two of them so they don’t get lonely and have plenty of bugs

Aardvark

Diet: Aardvarks like to eat ants and termites.Animal type: They are a mammal which means that

they have their babies alive.Natural habitat: They live in the Subsaharan AfricaI chose an Aardvark for my zoo because I think that

they are a funny looking animal. They were admired in African folklore because of their diligent quest for food. Also, the are considered to be a living fossil because their DNA resembles that of extinct animals. One of my favorite cartoons when I was in first grade was Arthur and he was an aardvark. I think that as long as we had plenty of Ants and Termites they could live in my zoo.

Aardvarks are also called Ant Bears, Anteaters, and Earth hogs.

Tortoise

Diet: They eat plants and grassesType of Animal: AmphibianNatural Habitat: Not very many live in the wild but

those that do live in Madagascar and the Galapagos Islands.

I chose the Giant Tortoise for my zoo because they will live a really long time. There was a zoo in Calcutta that had a Giant Tortoise that they thought was 250 years old. They are considered to belong to the most ancient group of reptiles. I like the fact that they are the oldest living animal on our planet. If they were in my zoo I would need to make sure that they stay warm enough in the winter.

Tortoise's can live to be over 200 years old.

Kimodo Dragon

Diet: Kimodo Dragons are Carnivores and will eat birds, monkeys, wild boar, goats deer and even water buffalo.

Type of Animal: AmphibianNatural Habitat: IndonesiaThe Kimodo Dragon is the larges lizard in the world.

They like to live in hot, dry places. They can eat up to 80% of their body weight at on time. Although they can’t breath fire they are considered to be very vicious and will even eat another Kimodo Dragon. YUCK! I will need to make sure that there is plenty of food in my zoo for this animal.

Kimodo Dragons aren't really Dragons

Puffer Fish

Page 14: If I Ran the Zoo

Diet: Small fishType of Animal: FishNatural Habitat: Tropical OceansI chose the puffer fish because I think that they are really

cute. They have many different names. They are called blowfish, balloon fish, bubble fish, and globefish. They are the second most poisonous vertebrate in the world although there are some puffer fish who are not poisonous. They are called puffer fish because when they are trying to defend themselves they will fill their stomach’s up with water and blow up like a balloon. If I have puffer fish in my zoo I will need to make sure to train the zoo keepers about how poisonous they are. They will need to have a special tank with sea water and a place that looks like home.

Puffer Fish are cute and deadly

Anaconda

Page 16: If I Ran the Zoo

Diet: Anaconda’s are carnivores and will eat fish, birds, goats and even small ponies.

Type of animal: ReptileNatural Habitat: The Amazon River. They mostly live

in the water.I chose the Green Anaconda because it is a very large

snake. I think that people would get very excited to see this snake in my zoo. I would have to make sure to have enough food for him to eat though. They say that they don’t really like people but if they were super hungry I bet they would. I would also need to have a big pond so that they could hang out in the water since they mostly stay in the water.

Green Anaconda's can grow to be 20 to 30 feet long.

I tried to choose animals for my zoo that were different. I wanted animals that people would get excited about. They all have something very unusual or unique about them. I hope you enjoyed learning about all the animals in my zoo.
