His passing is a great loss to the Coffs Coast community and we send our sincere condolences to his family and community. Athletics Carnival I hope everyone is organising their house colours in preparation for our athletics carnival on Thursday June 17. We will assemble in class lines at the Amble Inn to mark the rolls before we gather under the Sharks, Eels and Dolphins banners for the march to the oval. We will stop at the garage for the juniors dance and the shop for the seniors dance. If your child is riding their bike we encourage them to decorate them in house colours. Possum News… Sawubona’ (Hello in South African ‘Zulu’) from Year 1 Possums… In Year 1 Possums, we have different family backgrounds and this week we embrace and celebrate the language and culture of South Africa! ‘Zulu’ is the most widely spoken language in their country. In Week 7, we are focusing on the letter and sound for / l / ll / within our spelling words and sound work, along with fluent reading. During maths, we will learn about ‘Fractions’ and halves as being one of two equal parts and we will also begin learning about collecting and tracking ‘Data’ using tally marks. The learning at home idea for this week is…to ‘talk about halves in the kitchen’ when cutting up fruit or vegetables to show 2 equal parts or when folding the washing, they can fold a shirt/shorts in half. Also, counting up and down by 5s (using tally marks) is another great home learning idea that will support their school learning. Have a great week! ‘Sala kahle’ (Goodbye or Stay well in South African ‘Zulu’) Mrs T and Ms Hearne

CLASS NEWS Koala News… Our focus sounds this week are Vv for violin and Yy for yoghurt. It is great to see so many students doing home reading and sounds/sight words in the red folder. Keep it up. Our number this week is 15 and we will look at 3D shapes. We will be recording the weather each morning over the next two weeks and record the temperature on a chart. Mrs LaCoste

BASKETBALL On Monday our school participated in the PSSA Basketball competition in Grafton. Both Girls and Boys teams played four games in total winning some and losing some. It was a great experience for everyone. Both teams played exceptionally well and showed great sportsmanship. Thank you to everyone for your wonderful effort. Ms Connie

Stage 3 News… Last week both classes participated in a the virtual excursion "Waves of Migration" which focused on the reasons why people have migrated to Australia in the past. This week we will continue to learn of modern migrant stories and how they found themselves to be living in Australia. We are about to begin our term 2 project on a significant Australian. In class, students will complete a multimodal presentation and once complete we will have an open day on the 17th June 2021 from 2:15pm. If anyone has any shoes boxes or old gift boxes we would love them for our presentations.

Mrs Freudenstein and Mrs Bartlett

Do you have any shoe boxes or old gift boxes? Please send them in to Stage 3 as they need them for upcoming presentations! Thank you

TOUCH FOOTBALL On Thursday 21st May, our touch football players played their first game in the PSSA Knockouts. We had a good turnout as many of our classes came up to the fields to cheer us on! First game was the girls who put up a good fight against Gilwinga Public School. Our girls played impressive in defence and held off the opposition team to score 4 tries. However, they were able to sneak through and score 6 tries to take out the win. Our boys side battled it out against Mullaway PS and it was admirable to see them score 2 tries even though they had no subs! They all played a full 40min game and should be so proud of themselves! All of our players showed fantastic sportsmanship and represented Corindi with pride. Well done teams!

Platypus Ponderings… Phew, week seven already! This week we will be continuing our journey around Australia and heading to the far north. Our vocabulary includes the words echidna, drover and beachcombing. We will also be looking at one of Jeanie Bakers fabulous books. She creates her books through collage and they are the most visually spectacular books to look at. ‘Where the forest meets the sea’ continues our examination of the effect that the human race has on the natural environment. The students have been complaining about internet coverage and speed in class. I have suggested that they could practise their times tables instead... Ms Connie
