Executive Summary

This deliverable report summarises the ENSEMBLE Dissemination Activities over the first year of the

project. These are categorised as:

Events Organization

Conference Participation

Workshops Participation

Joint Working with Neighbouring Domains

FInES Community Dissemination

Peer-Reviewed Publications

Other Dissemination Activities

The deliverable also presents updated versions of the dissemination support material produced by the

ENSEMBLE Consortium in order to facilitate the dissemination of the project philosophy, outcomes

and exploitable results.

A review of the on-line dissemination activities are presented, with analysis of impact of the FInES

Portal, the FInES Wiki and social media.

Further, the dissemination activities undertaken by ENSEMBLE for Months 1 to 12 are compared with

the planned activities presented previously in Deliverable D1.1.1: Dissemination and Exploitation Plan

1st version, showing that objectives have largely been met or exceeded. Some minor delays have

occurred but are not critical to the project.

Finally a first assessment of planned dissemination activities for M13-M24 is presented, though it

should be noted that a full dissemination plan for the remainder of the project is scheduled for

delivery in Deliverable D1.1.2: Dissemination and Exploitation Plan 2nd version in M15.

This document is the result of the work performed in task T1.4, entitled Dissemination and Promotion

Activities, and, together with the dissemination material which it documents, is public.

1 Introduction

1.1 Purpose and Scope

The purpose of this document is to review the ENSEMBLE dissemination activities during the first 12

months of the project. These are categorized as:

Events Organization

Conference and Workshops Participation

Joint Working with Neighbouring Domains

FInES Community Dissemination

Peer-Reviewed Publications

Other Dissemination Activities

Following a summary of dissemination activities, a detailed report of each dissemination activity is

presented within each category.

We also outline the revised dissemination support material produced by the ENSEMBLE Consortium.

This printed promotional material, has been designed and produced in line with the first version, as

presented previously in deliverable D1.4.1, and will be available to be distributed at targeted events

planned by the project Consortium. INTRASOFT will provide the consortium with the necessary

number of copies and will also keep a small stock to attend unexpected events.

The promotional material will be updated during the project development. New versions of the

brochures and posters are expected in M24 as planned in the project DoW, but also according to

specific findings, FInES cluster and Consortium members‟ needs.

ENSEMBLE makes extensive use of on-line dissemination and consultation. This is summarized

together with some analytics, showing significant use of both the FInES Portal and the FInES Wiki.

Reviewing the dissemination activities undertaken against the plan previously presented in Deliverable

D1.1.1: Dissemination and Exploitation Plan 1st version, shows that objectives have largely been met

or exceeded, although some minor delays have occurred which are not critical to the project.

1.2 Structure of the Document

Following this introductory section, Section 2 summarises and details the conventional dissemination

activities.

Section 3 presents the promotion and dissemination materials created and distributed by ENSEMBLE.

Section 4 presents on-line dissemination activities.

Section 5 reviews progress against the dissemination plan.

Section 6 outlines dissemination plans for M13 – M24, subject to elaboration and confirmation in

Deliverable D1.1.2 in M15.

Given the close relationships between the FInES RR focus and the ActionPlanT

focus, it is expected that this collaboration will be producing benefits for both

initiatives, enriching the content and increasing the quality level of the final

outcome.

Description of activity ActionPlanT envisions the future with an all-encompassing concept of a

Manufacturing Business Web (MBW), which essentially is a melting pot where the

disparate solution spaces of process-oriented and commercial-oriented technologies

converge. All future ICT solutions for manufacturing need to have a business value

and interact with each other seamlessly within the MBW. The final objective is to

promote core technology developers as well as manufacturing service providers to

build individual solutions with minimal Time-to-Market.

Activity objectives The events programme featured keynote speeches and a round table discussion on

the first day, with more in-depth thematic sessions on day two, focusing mainly on

issues such as: Are industrial policies keeping pace with global reality or are they

still based on non-global manufacturing paradigms? Will economies become

unstable by keeping their markets open or can there be a more resilient world, for

example through collective R&D? Which skills and competencies will be needed for

manufacturing in 2020? How to create better workplaces? The Forum tried to

address these issues by building consensus on a vision with respect to the global

manufacturing challenges and to sustainability, growth models and policies, and by

stimulating bottom-up ideas to promote international R&D and innovation

partnerships through hands-on sharing of experiences.

Expected/realized

3.3 ENSEMBLE Brochure

The ENSEMBLE brochure is a triptych A4 (per sheet) format document, including a brief explanation

of the project, its background, aim, objectives and methodological approach so it could be distributed

to both aware and non-aware FInES audiences. The writing was attempted to be colloquial, bullet

point and commercial. The final version was printed in a run of approximately 500 copies in good

quality glossy paper, as agreed during the kick-off meeting. This is presented in Figure 3-3 and Figure

3-4 below.

In the next versions of the brochure, published in M12 and shown in Figure 3-5 and Figure 3-6 below,

the content is revised in order to depict the ENSEMBLE advancements on the EISB and the Research

Roadmap Task Force progress.

In all editions, the reverse side of the brochure presents the consortium partners as well as the

project accounts in several social media for the interested parties to join us (as indicated in the

figures below).

The current version of the poster advertises the ENSEMBLE merits, with the aim to be displayed both

in support of institutional or more marketing oriented events. The Consortium preferred the idea of

the large poster with the repetitive pattern utilised in the project logo (puzzle like effect expressing

collaboration), where the project‟s motto dominates the central space of the poster. The motto is

simple and precise as to the project‟s objectives: «Envisioning, Supporting and Promoting Future

Internet Enterprise Systems Research through Scientific Collaboration”.

4 On-Line Dissemination Activities

The exploitation of on-line dissemination and consultation opportunities is a significant ENSEMBLE

strategy, though it is intrinsic to this strategy that wherever appropriate, a FInES Cluster presence

(rather than an ENSEMBLE project presence) is strongly emphasised. This is consistent with the

ENSEMBLE role as a support action for the FInES Cluster.

On-line presence includes:

Twitter: ensemble_FInES with hashtag #EU_FInES

LinkedIn Group: FInES - Future Internet Enterprise Systems

Facebook Fan Page: FInES (Future Internet Enterprise Systems)

YouTube Channel: FInESCluster

Slideshare: FInESCluster

Delicious: FInESCluster

Flickr: FInES_Cluster

In addition the ENSEMBLE project maintains the FInES portal and FInES collaboration wiki. Traffic

analytics for these follow in the sections below.

4.3 Social Media

ENSEMBLE has established its presence in the most popular social media existing nowadays. Being

more specific:

LinkedIn constitutes the main platform for discussions among experts in the area of future

internet enterprise systems. Up to M12, the FInES Cluster LinkedIn group engages 110

members (with median number of connections: 149) who have been participating in

discussions, offering interesting views, comments and feedback.

Twitter: The FInES Cluster has an active Twitter account (@ensemble_FInES) and has

chosen the hash-tag #EU_FInES for its tweets. The twitter account has been used for

promoting the FInES Cluster and the ENSEMBLE news, publications, events. Moreover, re-

tweets are made of relevant and interesting content from disparate sources. Last but not

least, the Twitter account of the project has been used to promote and disseminate news and

events of the projects within the cluster. This has led to a number of 119 followers (some of

them being followed by many thousands of followers, median number of followers: 291). In

addition, many of the project‟s tweets have been re-tweeted and reached a large audience

through the followers of the users that re-tweeted them.

The twitter account has a Klout2 of 24, which reflects the active influence in the twitter

landscape. According to the Klout report, ensemble_FInES is characterized as an Explorer

that “actively engages in the social web, constantly trying out new ways to interact and

network. You're exploring the ecosystem and making it work for you. Your level of activity

and engagement shows that you "get it", we predict you'll be moving up.”

Finally, other hash-tags that are often used in the ensemble_FInES tweets and retweets are:

#socbiz, #future, #interoperability, #cloud, #e20 etc.

Facebook: FInES (Future Internet Enterprise Systems) maintains a Facebook fan page, in

order to be reachable by a broader and probably less specialized audience. The project‟s

Facebook page includes news, photos and information about the FInES Cluster. The page has

39 fans.

YouTube: The FInES Cluster is also present at YouTube. The project‟s channel is used to

choose and promote interesting and relevant videos, as well as offering videos of the cluster.

The channel has received almost 200 visits. 13 different videos have been chosen as favourite

and stored in the dedicated channel.

Flickr is used to upload and disseminate photos mostly from the cluster events. Moreover,

information is offered regarding the project and the FInES cluster. Up to M12, 93 items have

been uploaded, leading to almost 100 page visits.

Slideshare constitutes the mean that the FInES Cluster and ENSEMBLE use in order to

favorite and promote presentations that are found to be relevant and of particular interest.

Moreover, Slideshare gives the ability of uploading selected cluster presentations. Up to M12

there are 15 favorited presentations.

Delicious as another social media in which the FInES Cluster has presence. In the Delicious

page, 22 bookmarks mainly related to the cluster projects have been made, with 5 different

tags.

An overview of the online activities of the ENSEMBLE project in the above mentioned social networks

Workshop Title Future Internet Enterprise Systems

Subtitle The past, the present and the future: looking for the 8FP

Chair and Co. Chair Chair: Dr. Ricardo Jardim-Goncalves

Co. Chair: Dr. Yannis Charalabidis

Workshop Description

Future Internet Enterprise Systems (FInES, http://www.ensemble-

csa.eu) has emerged as a field of activity that aims at enabling

enterprises, including SMEs, by means of ICT, to exploit the full

potential of the Future Internet. The FInES vision and research

objectives are defined in its Position Paper: “The full potential of the

Future Internet is accessible to, relevant for, and put to use by

European enterprises including SMEs. The Internet thus becomes a

universal business system on which new values can be created by

competing as well as collaborating enterprises - incumbent as well as

new - through innovation in a level playing field, with sustainable

positive benefits for the economy, society and the environment”. The

FInES research domain, that has been supported by the European

Commission over ten years, is also an important element of the Digital

Agenda for Europe, a flagship initiative of the Europe 2020 strategy.

During last years, several projects have been researching and

delivering results in this field, and the analysis for the vision towards

8FT in this area already started to be analysed and discussed.

This workshop will bring a comprehensive analysis of the past and

present in the area of Future Internet Enterprise Systems, and provide

an open forum of discussion to develop the vision of FInES in the

advent of the 8FP.

ActionPlanT Workshop

ICT for Manufacturing

02 May 2011

Avenue de Beaulieu 33, Ground floor - Room 58, 1160 Brussels,

Belgium

Agenda

Background:

ActionPlanT is working towards a European vision for ICT in future manufacturing and is building a

research roadmap of ICT for manufacturing as part of the European Commission's Factories of the

Future (FoF) PPP. For more information about the project, visit our website at www.actionplant-

project.eu.

Scope:

This is the second workshop organized by the project and focuses on the roadmap. You have been

invited alongside a compact group of recognized European experts to help us refine further the

research areas for the roadmap. In particular, at the meeting you will be asked to present your ideas,

suggestions, and opinions on which ICT technologies will in the future be useful for a better

manufacturing in Europe. The outcomes will help to shape the Roadmap for FP8 on ICT for

Manufacturing.
