Rehearsals are held weekly on Sunday afternoons from September through May. Efforts are made to avoid holi-days, school breaks, and major music events such as All-State Honor Band.

Rehearsals

AuditionsAuditions for the ensembles are held during May and August. Detailed information includ-ing tuition fees will be available at that time. If you are interested in auditioning, please contact the India-napolis Chamber Orchestra’s office at (317) 940-9607.

Concerts The ensembles present several free concerts throughout the season at various central Indiana venues includ-ing the Indianapolis Artsgarden, The Jazz Kitchen, and Marian Hall of Marian Univsersity.

The ICO Youth Ensembles are an educa-tion program of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. The ensembles are auditioned bands comprised of high-school-aged musicians. Both groups rehearse weekly and perform free concerts throughout the year. They are designed to provide students with an excellent learning opportunity allowing them to explore their musical abilities and expand their knowledge. This serves as an enhancement of their school music program.

General Information

Members of the ensembles include All-State Band players as well as numerous Indiana State School Music Association Solo/Ensemble Competition gold and silver medal winners. Graduating seniors in the past few years have received college scholarships and participated in prominent muisc programs at Butler, De-Pauw, Ball State, Harvard, Princeton, Cincinnati Conservatory, Indiana University, and more.

ICO Youth Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble

Students benefit from the interaction with the ICO’s professional musicians. ICO musicians lead sectional rehearsals throughout the year. In addition, stu-dents receive tickets to ICO concerts.

Opportunities & Benefits

Throughout the year, students are se-lected for solo and chamber performance opportuni-ties as well as leadership positions. The final concert of each sea-son is dedi-cated to the graduating seniors, with special solo opportunities and awards for years of involvement.

Additional activities include seminars on such topics as college decisions and preparing for auditions, and social events at rehearsals and concerts.

Parent Involvement

Parents are encouraged to be involved with the ensemble through a variety of opportunities including planning recruitment, providing refreshments for social events, helping with student awards, aiding in concert preparation, and assisting with marketing and fund-raising efforts.
