fii) The chief source of trouble in BENMARKwms the DanishResistance Movement. since • BOook over office in Jan 1944,the attacks on Germans °spatially members of thq SS, increaseddaily, also sabotage and strikes, and with the Allied Militarysuccosées in the field the incidents grow in severity notioqablysinco end of 1944.

6. SHOOTING OF 11 DANES:

-( 0) In Au/Sop. 1944, 11 Danes, all members of the Resistancemovement and considered very dangerous, were hold under arrest eitherat the concentration Camp at BORSEROED ., or in the Police Prison inCOPENHAGEN (Ili does not remembet :tot location).

(o) B. informed Dr. BE3T, of the incident and suggested to himthat an appropiato report should be published in the Danish controlledpress, which was refused.

(f) Asked the reason for non-publication B. states that Dr. BEST,had an agreement with the Danos to build a now concentration camp atPROESLEV. The Danes had agreed to build the camp after having obtainedfrom Dr. BEST the promise that no pangs arrested by the Germans would bedespatched to GERMANY. The new oapp at FROESLEV was completed aboutthe time the eleven Danes Wore sent to GERMANY, and coincided with thetransfer of prisoners from camp HORSERC1D to FROM:LEV, hence Dr. BESTon hoaring of the shooting forbade the publication in the press fearingthat another riot may break out during the transfer of the prisonersto FROESLEV.

lb) As normally NO mambors of thd rosistan ' m ement or OtherDanos were sent into tho REICH, B. suggosted tor -j lonipotent-iary of tho Reich for DEMaRK, that as a doterrent the olovon memberswore to be sont to &MANNY. Dr.BEST although against such actioneventually agrood to ity/

(0) tstbf.iipkof Soption IV : (Gestapo) (see appendix IV)was Charge with tEZ-TariehgeMents, i.e. guards and transport.Tho truck with the cloven Danes loftin Amg/sop (?), for GEDSER(FOrry Station to wARNmanmE).

(a) In tho vioinity of ROSKILDE the DanoS rintod, and tho guardshot all of them. Tho truck returned with tho bodies to COMHAZEN,whore B. thinks they woto doposited in a Garage at tho SHELL HOUSE. B.states not to have viowed tho bodios.

(g) The dead bodies were apparently discovered by some Danes, and rumours about the shooting began to circulate with the resultthat it was published first in the Swedish press to the effect that11 Danes were shot at =MAR house. To counteract same Dr. BESTarranged for a denial to be published in the Danish controlledpress. This proved to be disastrous for the Does wont on strike, and the Danish underground press published an article to the effectthat B. was responsible for the shooting of 11 Danes, and postersdenouncing B. a murderer appeared all over DENMARK.

(h) A Dana named SWENNINGSEN; Secretary of the Danish Government, made enquiries, and consequently a full (?) report of the facts worepublished in the Danish controlled press.

(i) B. denies having anything to do with the cold blooded murdernor given orders to that offoct. Ho made a full report to Dr. BESTand SS 82 Tblizoifuehror PARKE, but NO action against the Guards weretaken. B. when told that it was imPossible to shoot 11 un-armed menfor rioting, and that a warning would have sufficed, states that owingto the existing hotrod the guard shot them all and made "rein tish"(cleared the dock). B. does not remember the names of the guard.Ho only remembers SS/Hatf. RINKE to have been present as ho used theopportunity to make his war-t0 ' E'RMANY to visit his family.
