The Alumni Advantage: Leveraging This Powerful Resource to Enhance Agent EffectivenessMitch Leventhal & Gretchen Dobson

Audience: All

►Session description

The power of personal referral goes a long way. International students want to know (and deserve to know) what it’s really like to attend the universities on their lists. Alumni are an integral resource to the recruitment agenda but new research confirms universities have not identified nor resourced alumni relations as a strategic priority. This seminar will review the latest findings from an American survey and recommend key steps for agents to building a mutually beneficial relationship with alumni, at home and abroad.

Online Education: New Opportunities for Agents and InstitutionsClynton Hunt & Dr. Teresa MacGregor

Audience: All

►Session description

In many parts of the world, the demand for Higher Education already outstrips the supply. By 2020 as many as 150 million students in India alone may find themselves unable to enroll in a domestic program. For those who can find a place, there remains a concern that domestic programs lack international quality. This is a growing problem common to many markets. Some students will look to foreign university campuses as a solution, but for many this will not be an option.

Online education is already being embraced by large numbers of students in countries such as the U.S., where research has validated as a highly effective learning mode. As U.S. universities increasingly look to promote their online degree and certificate programs to international students, opportunities arise for agents to diversify their services in order to provide options for domestic students interested in a high quality education and internationally recognized credentials. The opportunity to offer services to a much larger domestic student population, in addition to international student placement services, represents an exciting new business opportunity.

Organising for Recruitment Diversity in Volatile TimesPamela BarrettAudience: Providers

►Session description

Increasing dependence on fewer markets driven by demographic and sometimes budgetary realities is a key issue for many institutions. Responding to the need for diversity in our international student population to build a sustainable recruitment and marketing program requires a more creative, expensive and potentially riskier approach to our work than previously. Growing financial demands, increased competition for the best students in key markets, substantially increased volatility in global student mobility, and a more complex pattern of student decision-making behaviours means that as international educators we need to make balanced decisions based on a comprehensive evidence base and robust risk management to navigate what has become a tougher market for everyone. But sometimes internal politics, financial imperatives or the demands of our leadership translate as a goal just to recruit as many international students as possible. How can you best organise your international recruitment strategy to ensure you achieve broader goals? How can you deliver a strategy for diversity?

This seminar will consider these challenges and focus on how to build recruitment programs focusssing on strong market understanding and an effective management of internal resources. Based on close-up consulting experiences with many of the most active institutions and organizations in international education today, we will discuss the practices which can support change and enhance international student recruitment. We’ll identify those areas that can make a real difference and share the key learning points that can help you achieve your goals.

Platinum Sponsor Presentation: Digital Marketing: The Key to Diversity in International RecruitmentJoe Monastero

Audience: Agents

►Session description

A 2016 LinkedIn survey showed that international students have an average of 3 schools on their shortlist. 66% of those students generated their shortlist prior to speaking with a counselor, and 91% enroll in a school from their shortlist. Based on that data it is vital to have your digital marketing aligned to your diversity goals. Digital marketing strategies and tactics will be presented from three perspectives: a university, an independent agent, and a global pathway provider. Actual campaign data and cases will be presented to identify strategies that can be implemented immediately to support your international recruitment goals.

Attendees will leave with strategies and tactics for international digital marketing focused on branding, creating interest, and driving student leads. Cases supporting the strategies will be presented along with the data from the campaigns to help attendees identify which strategies are right for them. Presenting this data through the lens of an independent agent, university, and global pathway company will give a broad spectrum of perspectives that offer insight into how different campaigns are created and how the results are perceived.
