How Faith Transforms Divorce Pat Livingston, MA May 10, 7-9 p.m. Fee: $20 The connection between faith and divorce can seem to be one of condemnation since the Catholic Church teaches that a valid sacramental marriage cannot be ended. This evening will not be a discussion of church law or the an-nulment process. It will be an exploration of the transform-ing perspective that faith can offer to those who have suf-fered the failure of their marriage. The dynamic that is the heart of the Christian Mystery is that God can bring life from what seems only to be death. Join us to look together at divorce in terms of both the darkness and the gift.

THE POWER OF PAUSE: Becoming More By Doing Less Author Terry Hershey May 13, 5 p.m.-May 15, 12 p.m. Fee: $150 Single room, $120 Shared Room (includes meals). Register with a $50 deposit. Balance due 10 days prior to retreat. Have you ever felt overwhelmed, only to add one more thing to your to-do list? Have you ever been in a conversa-tion, and realized you weren’t even there? Have you been pulled in so many directions that you don’t feel at home in your own skin? If so, it’s time to learn to pause. Join Terry for the permis-sion to become more by doing less. This is not about time management. It’s about letting our souls catch up with our bodies. Practical and humorous, Terry will teach us how to lose what we don’t need, how to find miracles in the mun-dane, and how to celebrate a bawdy, unkempt spirit and an untidy, misunderstood God who fills us with grace and transformation.

HAPPILY MARRIED COUPLES: “When the Catholic Church teaches that marriage is a Christian vocation it is saying that the couple’s relationship is more than simply their choice to enter a union which is a social and legal institution. In addi-tion...marriage involves a call from God and a response from two people who promise to build...a lifelong, intimate and sac-ramental partnership of love and life.” (USCCB,ForYourMarriage.org) Join us on a Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekend and learn how to respond to God’s call for you to deepen your joy and romance in your “intimate and sacramental partnership.” The next available WWME weekend in this diocese is June 3-5. For information call (813) 270-7832 or go on-line at www.wwme-tampabay.org.

Third Sunday of Easter May 8, 2011

You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.

— Acts 2:28 GOD’S PLAN Saint Peter speaks to us twice today. In the first reading, we hear an excerpt from his sermon on Pente-cost; in the second, part of his first letter. Once a frightened, uneducated fisherman who often said just the

wrong thing, now Peter is speaking what he knows to be true. Everything Jesus had said now makes sense. His death and rising were all part of God’s plan, and our faith and hope can be centered on God. Today’s Gospel tells the story of Jesus’ walk to Emmaus with two of the disciples. Frightened, sad, and confused, the two of them don’t recognize Jesus, who tells them what we heard Peter say above: All this had to happen as part of God’s plan. In the end, these disciples recognize Jesus as we are to recognize him—in the breaking of the bread. © Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.

©Nuestra Parroquia 2011
