ICCA STROKE 2017ACUTE STROKE INTERVENTIONS & CAROTID STENTING
Multiple randomized trials have provided Level 1a evidence for thrombectomy (in addition to intra-venous thrombolysis) in large artery occlusions. Acute catheter intervention should become part of the standard of care for major acute strokes. However, for multiple reasons, most strokes are still only treated medically.
We want to change this by educating and training interventionists from different specialties in these procedures. Our dedicated interventional stroke course is the first step in this training.
