ON June, 1911 Charles Ranlett Flint established

CTR merging three companies.

Flint recruited Thomas J. Watson Sr. formerly of

National Cash Register Company to lead the

company in 1914.

Watson’s favourite slogan “THINK” became a

mantra to the employees and within 11 months of

joining he became the president of it.

During Watson’s first four years revenues more than

doubled to $9 million.

February 14, 1924; CTR renamed as International

Business Machines Corporation.

In 1963, IBM employees and computers helped

NASA track the orbital flight of Mercury astronaut.

On April, 1964 IBM announced the first computer

system family, the IBM system/360.

IBM’s closing value of $214 billion on September

29, 2011 surpassed Microsoft which was valued at

$213.2 billion.

Since 1914, CEO Thomas J. Watson boosted company spirit by creating employee sports teams, hosting family outings, and furnishing a company band.

In 1946, the company hired its first black salesman, 18 years before the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In 1947, IBM announced a Total and Permanent Disability Income Plan

The Watson’s first scientific laboratory was founded at Colombia University in 1945.

In 1966 , IBM researcher Robert H. Dennardinvented Dynamic Random Access Memory(DRAM) cells.

In 2013, Booz and Company placed IBM sixteenth among the 20 most innovative companies in the world.
