I’ve been to over 9 offshore platforms some manned & some NUP for various maintenance projects requested by Royal Dutch Shell (the Client). Initially it was for retrospective Landing Platforms (LP) to all Shell (NL) installations and later involved in various site surveys for Velocity String Campaign, Foam Injection, access platform for ESV, interfaces with drilling platform and a corrosion survey. More recently I was heavily involved in the installation of a new riser access tower (RAT) on K15-FA-1 and its interface to the existing platform which facilitated a new flowline from a nearby marginal field. Used AutoCAD 2009 & Vantage PDMS v 11.6

Offshore Field Engineer (Aug & Sept 2007)Leman Alpha Complex, Southern North Sea.

45 days (4 trips) offshore as Field Engineer for the 2007 Upgrade Project of Leman Alpha Drilling, Production & Compression Topside platforms. April 2006 – Dec 2006: Aircraft Carrier Alliance, Bristol.Principle Design Engineer Wholeship Insulation

I returned after a year off the project to continue with the design maturity of the Integrated Insulation Key Plan for the two “new build” Aircraft Carriers for the UK Royal Navy. Duties included writing the Insulation Ship Specification, Insulation Equipment Specification, conception and management of the wholeship insulation spreadsheet reference document. Owner of and responsible for the wholeship Insulation Key Plan (AutoCAD 2005). Liaise with shipyards and insulation suppliers and control of the cost model for all insulation Fire, Thermal and Acoustics requirements for all structure, HVAC, Piping and Exhausts.

Sept 2005 – March 2006: KBR, Aberdeen.Lead Structural PDMS Designer.

Together with a one other structural designer, responsible for the structural work scope involved to provide Produced Water Re-injection facilities for Clyde, Claymore & Beatrice Production platforms belonging to Talisman Energy. This included installation of a new 13 tonne under slung platform for new booster pumps de-sander cooler and replacement of larger re-injection pumps. Working in conjunction with the piping department we produced a mature PDMS 3d model and the subsequent construction drawings on AutoCAD 2005. Duties involved site surveys to all three rigs & to design workable solutions to the various space and integration problems this new retrospective system created. The first platform was successfully lifted, cross-hauled and bolted into position without complications in just four hours.

May 2005 – Sept 2005: Sparrows Offshore Services. Bridge of Don, Aberdeen.Senior Structural Design Engineer.

Responsible for the modernisation, upgrades and maintenance of various offshore cranes on fixed platforms or ships belonging to major oil companies operating in and around Aberdeen. Jobs include slew ring replacement and installation of new slew limit encoders. I was also responsible for lifting arrangements and procedures of offshore equipment for change out. Jobs include extraction of 14Te Emergency Shutdown Valves, Actuators and Motors. Also responsible for offshore surveys, job procedure and includes the planning for cost and time estimations. Systems used were Bentley Microstation and AutoCAD Inventor.

Jan 2002 - Dec 2004: BAE Systems Limited (Yarrows) Glasgow.Category ‘B’ Seat Co-ordinator.

Responsible for operating a small team of 3D Structural Modellers using Cadds 5x producing seats for shock mounted outfit equipment for new 1st of Class Royal Navy Type 45 Destroyer. Also responsible for the co-ordination of further seats subcontracted out and their subsequent checking of the returned models and their calculations back to BAE Systems prior to integration into the main ships model. I was also hands on myself to design and construct intelligent 3d modelled seats using Cadds 5x ASM from experience requiring only subsequent design validation by engineering.

July 2000 – Dec 2001: Van der Giessen de Noord, Rotterdam, NL3D Structural Design Modeller.

Six months in the design office working on the 2-D scantling drawings for new cable layer followed by, (on my own request), 12 months 3-D modelling structural outfitting steelwork using Tribon Release 5 for a North Sea ferry, a dredger and also a luxury yacht.

Jan 1999 – July 2000: BAE Systems Limited (Yarrows) Glasgow.Outfit Draughtsman

Using Cadds5x 3D software, produced drawings for minor bulkheads insulation and ancillary equipment to be installed within accommodation spaces of a new 1st of class Offshore Patrol Vessel for the Brunei Navy.

July 1998 – December 1998: S.M.V. Engineering A.S. Stavanger, NORWAY.Senior Structural Designer

Working in conjunction with the Commissioning team & a DNV representative on the MST based Drill Ship ‘West Navion I’, I was to required to survey all existing mechanical handling equipment for suitability and in the case of a deficit, to design new runway beams and padeyes. Also involved in positioning new W.T. doors, access platforms and deck hatches as requested by the client. Provided detailed work packs to the client complete with drawings procedures and all necessary strength calculations that I arranged from a London engineering design house. Used both Bentley Microstation and AutoCAD R14.

July 1995 – June 1998: Houlder Offshore Engineering Limited, London.Lead Structural Design Draughtsman

Following on from my experience with Stolt Comex Seaway, and my knowledge of the workings of the ship ‘Seaway Falcon’, I started with Stolt’s main design consultants Houlder Offshore. Leading Draughtsman, responsible for the running of the AutoCAD Dept (four Networked Cad Stations AutoCAD 14 & Lt) within the London branch. Developed the Naval Architects sketches to produce the necessary design drawings for the extensive new crew accommodation within the hull including insulation heating and ventilation in accordance to DNV rules. Heavily involved in a new rigid pipe handling equipment and incorporation of a new ‘industry

first’ Radial Friction Welding machine for client and DNV approval. Also involved in various modifications of MOD vessels, Semi Submersibles and other commercial working ships.

May 1995 - July 1995: Forthwright Offshore Limited, Port Glasgow.Structural AutoCAD Draughtsman

Responsible for the complete Drill floor secondary steelwork including Windwall, roof steelwork, insulation, and cladding drawings for Global Marine’s Jack up Rig “Bay Driller” for the Glomar Adriatic XI project.

I was transferred from Norway to oversee the conversion of Stolt’s newly acquired Drill Ship in readiness prior to its voyage to Norway to finally become a Flexible Pipe Laying Vessel. Responsible for the checking of the local drawing office produced drawings from the London Naval Architects (HOE Ltd) design sketches through to construction ensuring the correct interpretation for fabrication and erection. Involved in the setting up and carrying out the Inclining Experiment to the satisfaction of Manila’s DNV Representative and the preparation of drawings for various equipment seating and new Isle of Man Classification and Registration.

October 1994 - January 1995: Stolt Comex Seaway a/s, Stavanger, NORWAY.Structural AutoCAD Draughtsman

Using AutoCAD R.12, Working in conjunction with the project engineer, I was involved in the design and detailing of a new derrick for pipe laying through the moonpool of a mono hull drill ship. In particular main tensioner support structure, the revolving platform above and its slewing arrangement. Prepared the rigging arrangement for all the winches and the module cursor frame that guides the tools down the moonpool.

June 1994 - October 1994: Consafe Engineering Co. Limited, Port Glasgow

Prepared steelwork fabrication drawings for the conversion of the Jack-up rig ‘Morecambe Flame’ into a modern accommodation platform for Hamilton Oil’s Liverpool Bay Development.

January 1991 - April 1994: U.I.E. (Scotland) Limited, Clydebank.

Involved in the temporary works drawings for the barge layout of two jackets and two modules for Shell’s Amethyst Project. Then steelwork fabrication drawings for two topsides, Amoco’s Lomond Project and Total Oil Marine’s Dunbar project. In the latter stages of both topsides I was preparing drawings for the support arrangement of piping and electrical systems. This included four months continuous night shift as Field Engineer for each contract to design and supervise the installation of supports for ‘site run’ small bore pipework.

January 1989 - December 1990: Saudi Iron & Steel Co, Al Jubail, SAUDI ARABIA. Mechanical Draughtsman

Design and detailing of new equipment, modification of existing plant consisting of three continuous casting machines, two rolling mills running over 100% capacity as well as a scrap steel shredding plant including cranes, buildings, access platforms and site layouts. Many drawings required the detailing of machined parts to close dimensional tolerances and with regard to surface finish. All drawings

conforming to the German DIN standard.

June 1988 - December 1988: Brown & Root, Wimpey Limited, Nigg Bay.

I was involved in plans for both Amoco’s Arbroath and Leman jackets including face nodes, weld access platforms, central cores and sea-fastenings. Other works included deck framing plans for Mobil Camelot and. responsible for the ‘Chartec’ (fire protection) schedule for the lower deck of the Shell Sole Pit topsides module.

February 1988 - June 1988: Hall Russell Limited, Aberdeen.Structural Design Draughtsman

Involved in the drawing of unit plans for the hull sections of the St. Helena Royal Mail Ship. This required the extensive usage of Lloyd’s Rules for the extrapolation of the necessary scantling calculations prior to submission to the certification authority. This ship is still in use to this day.

September 1986 - January 1988: Scott Lithgow Limited, Port Glasgow.Quality Assurance Inspector – Structural Material Controller

Involved in material certification and identification for the steelwork used on the Oil Exploration rig “Ocean Alliance”, including ‘as built’ drawings and on board visual inspection with owner’s representatives prior to forwarding data to the certification authority and the client.

Working on the Shell Leman F & G Topsides contract, I prepared drawings for the manufacture of support arrangements of various pipework, H.V.A.C. and electrical systems throughout both modules. I also produced sea-fastening drawings for the transport of two large gas riser ‘J’ tubes.
