Dear Friends,Greetings from Manipal! The department of Dermatology, Kasturba Medical

College, Manipal, of Manipal University is pleased to organize a CME cum

workshop on phototherapy. Over many centuries, "heliotherapy" or

treatment with sunlight has been used in the treatment of skin diseases. The

real interest in phototherapy began when Neils Finsen received Nobel Prize

for his therapeutic results with ultraviolet radiation in lupus vulgaris. The

development of PUVA in 1974 and narrow-band UVB in 1988 has resulted in

greater use of phototherapy for the management of dermatological diseases.

Targeted phototherapies with higher dosages for lesional skin resulting in

rapid clearing and longer remission rates, have also been developed. This

workshop is designed to provide knowledge and practical tips in the use of

commonly used phototherapy modalities like UVA, NB-UVB, targeted

phototherapy and MED demonstration, both for the beginners and the

experienced. We request you to make use of this opportunity for enhancing

your knowledge on phototherapy and register at the earliest.
