ANALYZER CODED MESSAGES

Fromthetimeitpowersupuntilthetimeitpowersdown,thei-STAT®Analyzerperformsnumerousqualitychecks.Thefailureofanyqualitycheckcausestheanalyzertohaltthetestcycleanddisplaya“cause”,an“action”message,andacode.

The Cause Message:This message describes the likely cause of the failed quality check. For example, when an overfilledcartridgeisdetected,theanalyzerwilldisplay“SamplePositionedBeyondFillMark”.

The Action Message:Thismessageindicatestheappropriateaction.Forexample,ifitislikelythequalitycheckwillfailagainthenexttimetheanalyzerisused,theinstruction“UseElectronicSimulator”willbedisplayed.Iftheproblemisrelatedtoanoperatororcartridge,theinstruction“UseAnotherCartridge”willbedisplayed.

The Cause Code:This isanumericcodeassociatedwith the failedqualitycheck. Sincemultiplecodescanbeassociatedwithasinglecausemessage,thisisessentialinformationwhencontactingi-STATTechnicalServicesoryourlocalsupportorganizationforfurtherassistance.Thecodesarestoredintheanalyzer’smemoryalongwithothertestrecordsandaretransmittedtotheCentralDataStation.Thecodelistcanbeviewedandprinted.

Codes 1-15 and 95 usually indicate a condition related to the environment or the state of the analyzer. These conditions are usually benign and go away after the next cartridge or Electronic Simulator is inserted, or after the offending condition is corrected.

ThePortableClinicalAnalyzerisunabletorefreshthedisplay.Thiscanhappenifpowerisinterruptedbeforetheanalyzerpowersitselfdown.Checkthatbatteriesareinsertedproperlyandseatedwellintheanalyzer.Batteriesthataretooshortwillnotmakepropercontact.CheckthebatteryvoltageontheStatusPage.

7 Batteries Changed/ReadyforUse

The following codes are associated with the cartridge or fluid movement within a cartridge. These conditions can be operator or sample related. In most cases, a new cartridge must be used. If a condition persists, especially if isolated to one analyzer, there may an analyzer problem.

Besidestheelectrolyteconcentration,theRcalisalsoaffectedbythetemperatureandtheheightandwidthofthefluidsegmentovertheconductometricsensor.Theanalyzeraccountsforthetemperature,buttheheightandwidthofthefluidsegmentcanvaryfromcartridgelottocartridgelot.Theanalyzerhasbeenprogrammedtocompensatefortheselot-to-lotdifferencesbymaintainingarunningaverageoftheRcalvaluesmeasuredfromthemostrecentcartridgeruns.Occasionally,thedifferencebetweentheRcalvaluesfortwocartridgelotsislargeenoughtocausetheintroductionofanewlottotriggercode24onthefirstfewcartridgeruns.TheCode24errorsshoulddisappearastherunningaverageadjusts.However,ifcode24persistsaftermorethan�cartridgerunsoneachanalyzer,contacti-STATTechnicalServicesoryourlocalsupportorganization.

Codes in the range of 120 to 138 and 140 to 151 indicate a failure during an immuno cartridge cycle. In most cases, the cartridge is spent and another cartridge must be used. Only the i-STAT 1 Analyzer produces these codes, as the Portable Clinical Analyzer does not support immuno cycles.

IftheanalyzerisconfiguredwiththeinternalElectronicSimulatorenabled,runanexternalElectronicSimulator.RunningtheexternalElectronicSimulatorensurestheinternalSimulatorcyclewillnotexecuteduringthepinconditioningprocess,whichcouldleadtotheprematureterminationoftheprocess.

2.RuntheCCCtwotimes. InitiatetheCCCcycleasyouwouldinitiateanexternalElectronicSimulatorcycle.TheinstrumentwillidentifytheCCCasanexternalElectronicSimulatoranddisplayaSimulatorFailureCode(i.e.rRGL)whenthecycleiscomplete.Disregardthecode,asthisisexpectedbehavior.
