It’s hard to believe how quickly the year has flown by. This week sees the first of two orientation visits for our new Kindergarten students. We look forward to welcoming these families to Greenway Park at the start of 2021. A number of students like to order breakfast before school. Please note that students need to be at school in enough time for this to occur. Any student wanting to order breakfast MUST arrive to school before 8.50am. Students arriving after this time will not be able to order their breakfast as not enough time is available before the start of school. Thank you again for your understanding in this matter. Welcome back to Term

I can be to others by smiling and saying good morning

Welcome to Week 6 where we are past the half way mark of our final term for 2020.

BREAKFAST AT SCHOOL

A reminder to all parents of the importance of the school having accurate enrolment numbers for the 2021 school year. Having this information helps to ensure that classes are formed as quickly as possible. If you intend to leave the school and your child is in years K-5, please inform the school office to make these arrangements. Equally, if you have not enrolled your kindergarten child for next year please do so as a matter of urgency.

Partial absences reflect any time a child is absent from school for part of the school day. This includes: arriving at school after 8.55am or leaving before 3.00pm, departing from a sporting event such as a swimming or athletics carnival early. It is a legal requirement for schools to record partial absences. This is then recorded in the child’s report. Please consider carefully before coming to school to take you children early because of appointments as any partial absence regardless of the reason is recorded and submitted to the Home School Liaison officer for monitoring.

2020 has been a difficult year for communities across Australia and as Christmas approaches – it is becoming increasingly clear that many Australians are going to struggle to have even a modest celebration. We all know Christmas is a time for joy. But for those doing it tough – it is often challenging, heartbreaking and isolating. Every Christmas, The Salvation Army provides around 160,000 meals and over 64,000 hampers and vouchers to individuals and families in need. As COVID-19 continues to impact individuals, families and communities across the country, your support now is more important than ever. By donating food or gifts, you can help us make sure we leave no one in need this festive season. At Greenway Park we will continue our tradition of donating hampers of food. A box has been placed in the front office for donations to be left.

Please make sure all items being donated are new/unused/unopened

• Please ensure items have long expiry dates and are non-perishable

• Since these will be received as gifts, consider adding brand name products and some special items to help the recipient celebrate on Christmas Day

This year the annual Presentation Day Award ceremonies will take place in Week 9.

Parents will receive letters in the mail if their child is to receive an award. We do ask that you do not let your child know that this is occurring. During these presentation day ceremonies, we recognise students that display consistency in their work, citizenship or outstanding work ethic. This year’s Presentation Day will be live via zoom. You will be sent a link closer to the day.

Plans are well underway in the planning of the Year 6 Farewell that will be held at the Liverpool Catholic Club on Thursday 3 December. Due to COVID restrictions, parents and many teachers will be unable to attend this event. More details have been sent to the Year 6 students.

It is a well-established school policy that students without a hat need to stay under the canteen covered area to play. This policy applies all year through. Just a reminder that children need to bring a school hat with them each day so they have access to all play areas.

The library will be closed for stocktake from Week 7. Can I please ask that parents start to hunt around for any library books at home that may be overdue. If books are lost parents are asked to contribute to the cost of replacing the book for the library.

We are ready for donations! The school has confirmed that in keeping with COVID restrictions, students can hand in their uniform donations to their class teachers. All uniforms are to be cleaned and placed in a bag. This will enable our school community that already owns uniforms, but no longer need or fit in to be donated back to the school so they can be sold at a discount price. These items should be in good and wearable condition, neither damaged nor soiled.

Great News! We now have a Speech

Pathologist as part of our Greenway Park

Community

Mel Tran, a Speech Pathologist from Learning Links will be working at Greenway Park one day a week starting this term. Speech Pathologists are trained in assessing and supporting children’s communication skills including speech, language, fluency, literacy, and social language skills. The “speechie” will be working closely with school staff in identifying and supporting students in their communication skills. This will involve classroom observations, consultation and collaboration with classroom teachers and the Learning and Support team, as well as individualised or group support for students across Kindergarten, Year One and Year Two at this stage. We are looking forward to her being part of our school community and enhancing the learning outcomes for our students.
