1  EXT.  CITY BUS STOP – MORNING                      1    Running late, RICHARD sits down on a bus stop bench in between LILLY and 

an OLD MAN who is reading the newspaper he never lowers or takes his eyes from. Richard constantly checks his watch as he catches his breath.  

           LILLY 

(giggling) I really like your shoes.            RICHARD       Thanks.            LILLY   I’ve never seen anything like them, may I ask where you got 

them?            RICHARD       Oh, uhhh St. Anna’s.          (laughing)   It’s a shoe boutique on Crenshaw Avenue, most people haven’t 

heard of it. Just a little hole‐in‐the‐wall shop.            LILLY       So you’re a shoe connesuir?         (scooting towards Richard)            OLD MAN       That or a drag queen.         (mumbling)            RICHARD       Na, I just love shoes, always have.            OLD MAN       My gay dad loved shoes…            RICHARD       What did he say?            LILLY       You just have this amazing energy about you. My name is Lilly.            RICHARD       Richard.            OLD MAN 

      What a surprise, name is Dick.         (turning newspaper page)            RICHARD       Is this old man serious? Do you know this guy?            LILLY       I understand the shoes, but why a cardigan? What do you do?                      RICHARD   I do research, but why am I the only one who hears this old 

man?!        OLD MAN   Researching men. Kids these days, need to get their heads out 

of their asses.        LILLY     Research? So you’re a scientist! Those nerdy glasses are so 

cute.     (touching Richard’s leg)        RICHARD   What the HELL is going on here?!         (standing)            OLD MAN   Now he’s lost his top. Someone is going to have to set this kid 

straight. Paper needs to write an article about psychos, not politicians. Though I guess those are all the same. 

       LILLY   I did everything I was supposed to do!     (crying hysterically)        OLD MAN     (closes paper)   What did you do to this poor girl, you freak?     (puts arm around Lilly)   There, there now dear. Wipe those pretty eyes and tell me 

what’s wrong.
