What is Love In the Name of Christ ?

The mission of Love In the Name of Christ is to mobilize the Church to transform lives and communities in the name of Christ.

A network of churches in Fairbanks and North Pole working together to help our neighbors in need.

Helping congregations organize to serve people.

Central clearinghouse for requests and we resource them out to those who can help.

A Love Story Our Clearinghouse Love Story is about a

woman named Bonnie. Bonnie is a woman

who had great dreams of moving to Alaska

and living the Alaskan dream. Bonnie

purchased a home in the area and began the

process of moving in on her own. She, like

many of those who call us for help, is a very

independent elderly woman with a medical

disability. This meant that moving in for her

was much more difficult. She had not planned

to do this by herself but she was now

unexpectedly facing life alone.

She called into the Clearinghouse asking for

help to put her bed together and for someone

strong enough to put her storage items up in a

loft area as she was not strong enough to do

either. Our caseworker could hear the

loneliness in her voice as she called. She said

that she did not have a church home yet and

was open to any that were close by her. We

sometimes see this same scenario with our

military families. People are excited about

coming to Alaska but are often unprepared for

the harshness of the climate and the isolation

that living here can often create. Bonnie was no exception to this.

Our caseworker contacted one of our partner churches close to her so that they could reach out in friendship and to

possibly meet her need. This church was really excited for the opportunity to reach out. A group was sent to her home

where they finished unpacking her belongings, put together her bed and put all of the storage boxes into the loft area,

meeting all of her requested needs.

The pastor contacted other members of his congregation to offer Bonnie friendship, encouragement, compassion and

witness to the love of Christ in her own life. Love In the Name of Christ was able to offer a load of firewood from another

partner church and they picked it up, stacked it and got her ready for winter heat. The church noticed some problems

with the home and brought in members of the congregation to fix what they could.

Most importantly, Bonnie now has a church family who are coming alongside her that will be making sure she is safe and

cared for this winter. She has her belongings in order, has wood for the winter and has gained an entire church family to

surround her with Love, Friendship and Compassion. This is what being the hands and feet of God is about!

What can my church expect?

Elements of Partnership Church partnerships are essential to Love In the Name of Christ .

Without church partners, there would be no Love INC. Each Partner

Church commits to joining with other churches to provide volunteer and

financial support for the operation of Love INC. Most often, in a

comprehensive partnership, a church will demonstrate their

commitment by:

Love INC has written policies in place to address client needs. These clients are screened and situation is verified before any help is offered.

An intake is conducted and requests are reviewed as to their nature, extent, and legitimacy.

All client interactions are conducted with respect the inherent dignity and worth of every person.

Clients receive a timely determination as to the type of referral and resources they will receive.

Clients are connected to agencies, church ministries, and/or church volunteers to help meet their needs.

Clearinghouse services and church resources are available to all people, without discrimination.

Client matters are not shared or discussed with those who are not involved in the helping process.

Clearinghouse volunteers receive an orientation to Love INC, appropriate training for their position and are placed in appropriate positions.

Clearinghouse volunteers are recognized for their service.

The board, staff, and volunteers are committed to the continuous improvement of Clearinghouse operations.

Love INC works with partner churches from a broad spectrum of Christian denominations. Tied together by the faith in Christ and words of the Apostles Creed.

New Life Program This intensive 12-week course is one-on-one mentoring for life skills and budgeting for those in need. Clients are referred into the program through the Clearinghouse. These are people ready to make a life change and a Transformational Change. This class is offered at no cost to the clients.

We also offer classes to the community.

Ready To Rent 4 week rental education class working closely with housing specialists and peers to: Overcome Barriers to Rental Housing.

Jobs for Life Classes help develop character, become connected to a community of support, and help obtain far more than just a job. Classes focus on confidence, self-control, coaching, learning, and faith.

Managing Your Finances God's Way Co-developed with Purpose Driven Ministries and Pastor Rick Warren, this seven-week, video-based, small group study, provides another option for studying biblical financial management in a small group setting.

Cooking On A budget Lessons cover meal preparation, grocery shopping, food budgeting and nutrition. Participants practice fundamental food skills making a healthy meal for a family of four on a $15 budget.

Church Ministry Coordinator (Contact Person) Position Description

The Church Ministry Coordinator in each partner church is indispensable. He/she is a vital link between needs referred by Love INC and the appropriate church volunteer. Church ministry coordinators do not respond to requests themselves, nor do they overload one or two willing people. Instead, they involve as many church members as possible in the Love INC ministry.

Qualification Lay person or paid church staff Committed to Christian ministry Familiar with church membership and part of the church’s leadership Available to serve for at least one year Accessible during Love INC Clearinghouse hours 9-12

Responsibilities Help the pastor plan an outreach for the church by: Planning a Talent Tithe Sunday. Receive referrals from Love INC and link them with the most appropriate church resource. Keep the church and Love INC informed about the ministry Encourage prayer support. Be the Love INC presence in the church.

Training Love INC will equip you to serve as church ministry coordinator and serve as a support to you.

Guarantees Love INC referrals to you will be: Screened and Verified Manageable Specific

Talent Tithe Sunday

Annually Love In the Name of Christ

likes to do a Talent Tithe Sunday. These

Sundays are designed to help your

congregation learn about Love In the

Name of Christ and to get more

involved with the ministry. Love In the

Name of Christ is a great local mission

that your congregation can get involved

with and help your members do

mission work that is local rather than

half way around the world.

Love INC will supply your Church

Ministry Coordinator with Talent Tithe

sheets like this one, Power Point,

Videos, and scripts for a Talent Tithe,

and even Love In the Name of Christ

Board Members and staff to come and

share for a few minutes about the

partnership in ministry to be done at

your church.

Ideally we would like to have 10

minutes a year with your congregation

or 3 minutes 3 times a year. We know

this is a lot to ask!
